The F1 Australian GP will inaugurate the 2015 season and the race is scheduled to be held on 15th March after practice and qualifying sessions on 13th and 14th March respectively. The season’s showdown will happen at the Yas Marina circuit in Abu Dhabi on 29th November.

There is a lot of buzz this year, thanks to the youth brigade that has entered the world of Formula 1 and the transfer of key players to other teams. Hamilton is already raring to go forward in order to clinch another world title, but he is being closely monitored by the other previous world champions Alonso, Vettel, Button and Raikkonen.

However, there are five key topics that seem to be on every F1 lover’s mind currently:

Fernando Alonso’s Horrific Crash

McLaren’s crash in Barcelona during winter testing has currently ruled him out of the Australian GP. He is still recuperating in hospital from post-traumatic stress and memory loss.

McLaren’s MP4-30 engines are already performing dismally in the testing, Alonso’s concussion has also hit them with uncertainty since a test driver will be taking his place until he is fit to race this season.

Fernando Alonso’s Horrific Crash

Youth Brigade

Max Verstappen driving for Scuderia Toro Rosso will smash the record of being the youngest ever driver in F1 currently held by Jaime Alguersuari.

He will be aged 17 years and 166 days during Sunday’s race. He is the son of famous ex-F1 racer Jos Verstappen.

His teammate Carlos Sainz Jr. is also young, just 20 years old! Red Bull’s Russian driver DaniilKyvat is also 20 and Sauber’sdriver Felipe Nasr has just turned 22.

Manor Marussia’s drivers Roberto Mehriand Will Stevens are also the same age. This is going to be a superb season for the young drivers.

Max Verstappen

The Infamous Hamilton And Rosberg Rivalry

If the Pre-season’s testing results are to be considered, then Mercedes is all set to clinch the driver’s and constructor’s championship once again for sure! The only question is who will take the helm? Hamilton or Rosberg?

Their relations already turned sour when last season Hamilton clinched crucial points in the final race to outperform Rosberg, who was doing equally well all season.

It’s up to them to decide whether it is a team event or a personal battle.

The Infamous Hamilton And Rosberg Rivalry

Sauber’s Unnerving “Seatgate” Controversy

It all began when Sauber’s former reserve driver Giedo van der Gardehad won a court ruling which ordered Sauber to let him drive the car in Melbourne, after he had claimed that they didn’t fulfil promises made in his contract and retracted their undertaking to turn him into a pro-driver from a test pilot.

The problem with the Swiss team is that it prefers to promote the heavily-sponsored young drivers like Marcus Ericsson Felipe Nasr.

Experts claim that van der Gardeshouldn’t have done this now since it would be very difficult for him to drive an unfamiliar car with the race set to begin in a few days.

Sauber’s Controversy

Sebastian Vettel’s Induction Into The Ferrari Camp

He could have won four straight titles under Red Bull’s reign, but the pressure of underperforming in the last season forced him to switch over to Ferrari.

Vettel will now look forward to rejuvenate Ferrari that has been suffering ever since Fernando Alonso, Rubens Barichello and Michael Schumacher left Ferrari.

Ferrari, the biggest and richest team won a world title last in 2008 and are hoping to rise again after the inclusion of a brand new team-principal Maurizio Arrivabene who hopes this year could be their pot of luck!

Sebastian Vettel’s Induction Into The Ferrari Camp

The Australian GP will be held at the Albert Park circuit in Melbourne from 13th to 15th March at 10:30 am IST. If you are an F1 lover, mark your calendar now for an exciting year of F1 madness.

All final negotiations are complete.

Hold onto your breath…!!

We have a new race in the Formula 1 Season this year!

Formula One group CEO Bernie Ecclestone has given the green signal; Mexico is all set to host a competing round of the 2015 FIA Formula One World Championship.

Mexico finally gets to host the prestigious Mexican F1 race after a long time; nearly two decades.

Francisco Mass Pena, the undersecretary of quality and regulation at the Ministry of Tourism in Mexico, believes this will benefit the country immensely and generate close to $2 Billion in revenue over a period of five years and create more than 18,000 new jobs.

The three-day event, happening from October 30 to November 1 will be witnessed by some 520 million television audience.

The Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez in Mexico City, named after legendary Mexican racing siblings (hermanos) Pedro and Ricardo Rodriguez will hold the race on a modified version of the track that was last used for F1 in 1992. The race will be run on a 4.421-kilometre circuit that has 15 turns including a three-turn chicane.

The side-stands and starting stretch grandstands will all accommodate at least 1, 50,000 spectators.

Mexico City first hosted an F1 racing event in 1963 and ran for the next seven years. It then returned in 1986 to host six more Grand Prix races, the last one won by Nigel Mansell, a Williams-Renault driver in 1992 where he was crowned World Champion. Tavo Hellmund, co-founder of the 2015 Formula 1 ‘Gran Premio de Mexico’, who also spearheaded the United States Grand Prix’s introduction in Austin, USA, is delighted that all negotiations had proved successful and they finally are back on the calendar after so long.

The biggest buzz for Mexicans ever since a possibility of the race negotiation was announced in September 2013 is that two racers from the current pool of drivers are Mexican nationals. The two Mexican drivers who currently compete in F1 racing are Force India’s Sergio Perez and Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez; both very promising and young talents in the F1 industry. For Mexicans to be able to see them live on their home tarmac is nothing short of a moment of pride for their country.

Sergio Perez has said that he wants to make his nation proud when Formula 1 returns to Mexico this season. The 24 year old Force India driver said he is eagerly looking forward to racing in front of his home fans at the ‘Autodromo Hermanos Rodriguez’. ‘It is going to be a massive moment personally for me and I can’t help but smile when I think of racing at home’ said Perez during Force India’s 2015 new VJM08 car launch.

Sauber’s Esteban Gutierrez describes the return of Mexico to the Formula One calendar for the first time in more than two decades as ‘greatest news in his career so far’. ‘It is a dream come true for many of us. A Mexican race would be the most fantastic experience to race in front of my people. Mexico has had a long F1 history, so the fascination and zeal for F1 is still in their genes. I had the chance to race in Mexico City once, back in 2008, when I took part in the World Finals of Formula BMW, and it was a great and exciting experience!’ said the 23-year-old from the city of Monterrey.

People, who love high speed cars, religiously follow the sport by travelling to different locations where the event is hosted.

High-speed auto racing, the phrase itself expresses the dangers that the sport brings to the drivers as well as the audiences. Though the sport thrills its followers with the dramatic overtakes and rivalries, the accidents are what make the existence of this sport questionable.

Formula One is open to fatalities and the event’s history has seen them many times. Young drivers with a zeal for speed losing their lives on the tracks with thousands of people watching can be an upsetting experience.

Here we take a look at the horrifying accidents that will leave you shocked.

Niki Lauda

This particular event dates back to 1976 and focuses on Niki Lauda, one of the most ferocious competitors of the era. It is the German Grand Prix taking place at Nürburgring, which is infamous for its lack of safety measures for drivers. Lauda urged other drivers to not participate in the race for the same reason, but lost by one vote and was forced to participate in the event. The weather changed after the first lap resulting in drivers changing replacing their tyres. During the race, Niki collided with another racer leading his car to ricochet off the fence and catching flame. Lauda landed in a coma and the burn injuries meant that he would lose a year and sport a disfigured face.

Rubens Barrichello

Rubens Barrichello was an up and coming driver. In the 1994 season, while representing Jordan in the San Marino Grand Prix, the Brazilian suffered a massive crash when his car lifted in the air and rammed against the tyre barrier with full force. The spectators and the commentators alike feared the worst for the youngster. After arriving at the scene, the medical team found Barrichello unconscious and struggling to breathe in the aftermath of the mishap. Barrichello, however, survived and continued racing till 2011, when he called it quits on the sport.

Tom Pryce

The incident involving Tom Pryce is arguably the most gruesome accident in F1’s history. He was only 27 years at the time and was involved in an accident that led to his tragic death. It was the 1977 South African Grand Prix when the Welshman collided with safety marshal Frederik Jansen Van Vuuren. The impact tore the safety marshal in half. The fire extinguisher that he was carrying landed in the cockpit of Pryce’s car, breaking his skull in half.

Robert Cubica

Robery Cubica, a Poland-based driver was subject to a massive accident on the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve during the 2007 Canadian Grand Prix. During the race, he impacted with a Toyota car driven by Jarno Trulli, which resulted in him being thrown onto the grass. A hump present there sent his car airborne and his BMW went headfirst into the concrete wall. Surprisingly, Cubica managed to walk away from the crash with a sprained ankle and a concussion.

Ayrton Senna

The Brazilian driver Senna was the best driver that Formula One has ever seen. In the early 90’s he was at his prime where he rivalled against Alain Prost. While in the lead during the Italian Grand Prix of 1994, Senna, at 190mph, collided against the Tamburello corner. It resulted in his death due to fatal skull fractures.

The term ‘rival’ means a person or group that tries to be more successful than his/her counterpart. Besides an individual, this could also be applied to any two teams competing in a sporting event where a proper rivalry takes place.

Their repeated meetings, longstanding connections and competitive spirit, can land them into rivals or foes on the playing ground.

While heated rivalries boost up the TV ratings and rake in the crowds, it’s not necessary that the rival will always humiliate his opponent.

Instead, in the case of these rivalries, there’s a special bond between the two that shows the true sportsmanship.

Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki (Tennis)
When will the men’s tennis see such bright of the day? Tennis stars Serena Williams and Caroline Wozniacki have become tennis’ world’s new BFF and it was evident ever since the American number one won this year’s US Open. It was reported that when the duo exited the 2014 French Open, they partied on a beach, spent hours at a nightclub and photobombing a beach wedding. It was Serena Williams who consoled Caroline Wozniacki after the latter’s break up with golfer Rory McIlroy and since then the pair has not looked back. They might be gunning for every point on the tennis court but this couple won’t let the friendship down just yet!

Kobe Bryant and Pau Gasol (Basketball)
Former teammates but now rivals, American basketball star Kobe Bryant still continues to be in good terms with Pau Gasol. The Spaniard signed on with the Chicago Bulls for the 2014-15 campaign whereas Bryant is still counting the moolah with the LA Lakers. In an interview, Bryant spoke in an emotional manner about his ‘pal’ Gasol. “He felt rejuvenated by going to a new situation. At the end of the day, he’s my brother before basketball.”

Shane Warne and Sachin Tendulkar (Cricket)
In the world of cricket, there have been many memories of the greatest rivalries but none to better than that of Sachin Tendulkar and Shane Warne. The Master Blaster and the Spin Wizard were involved in numerous battles over the years but even so, their friendship remains intact. When Sachin visited Sir Don Bradman’s house in 1998, the Mumbai batsman was accompanied with Shane Warne and to this day, the duo share a great camaraderie off the field.

Xabi Alonso and Steven Gerrard (Football)
England midfield icon Steven Gerrard and Spanish star Xabi Alonso were teammates at Liverpool for five seasons before latter moved to Real Madrid. The duo, were one of the best midfield pairing in the English Premier League and have always been well-wishers of each other. Gerrard had once told famous English daily, “Xabi Alonso is the best midfielder I have played with. I miss playing with him.”

Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel (Formula One)
In the world of F1, there are moments that could turn childhood friends into foes but not Kimi Raikkonen and Sebastian Vettel. In an interview to the F1 official site back in 2012, Vettel spoke highly of Kimi. “Yes. He (Raikkonen) is straightforward and honest and he tells you if he has a bad day. Period. He is real. He’s not political. He’s never up to something. If he doesn’t want to tell you something he will say so and not hum and haw. He doesn’t beat around the bush, never coming to the point.” With rumours of Vettel linking up with Ferrari next year, these two ‘buddies’ could strike a great bond.

These days, it’s highly framed as ‘reboot’ which highly practised these days especially in the media.

Movies from the yesteryears are ‘rebooted’ with a new feel and cast and that’s where the word comes into play. The computer ‘slang’ is now used in the world of sports as well.

With the usage of PCs, smartphones, tablets and any number of devices, rebooting is a mere fact of life and applies to more than just a laptop or your personal computer. Sports are the latest to be joined with the makeover term and with some of the greatest sides faltering, it’s time they received some change.

Even as sports hinders with success and failure, many franchises have their share of ups and downs but there are a few that have way more ups or downs.

These struggling teams just don’t require a makeover or a change; because their problems are way too compound and abundant. Others just need a spell of restoration, a fresh start but these 4 sports franchises that need a makeover at the earliest.

Scuderia Ferrari F1 Team:
One of the best franchises in the F1 arena and the world of motorsports as well, Scuderia Ferrari or basically called as Ferrari F1 team, is on the verge of anonymity. Gone are the days of Formula One icon, Michael Schumacher where the German would roar onto the circuits and take away every race and trophy available. Their last F1 title came way back in 2008 and the driver’s championship in 2007 with Kimi Raikkonen. But as of now, the Finn’s best years are behind him and Spaniard Fernando Alonso is leaving the team as well. With former champion Sebastian Vettel linked with Ferrari, perhaps, there could be some good news ahead!

Mumbai Indians:
Two time CLT20 winners and 2013 IPL winners, Mumbai Indians are on the receiving end these days. Failing to qualify for the group stages of the CLT20 this year portrayed the lack of quality within the squad despite the presence of Mike Hussey, Kieron Pollard and Lasith Malinga. Skipper Rohit Sharma might miss the services of icon Sachin Tendulkar and in the coming IPL years, Mumbai might end up a finished article unless the owners act tough!

Arsenal Football club:
After breaking a nine year wait for a trophy last year, Arsenal and manager Arsene Wenger finally lifted silverware as the Gunners won the FA Cup this year. But even as the fans of the celebrated football club rejoice over their ‘no trophy’ hoodoo; the club still lacks ambitions. Finishing fourth, no Champions League competition and lack of signings in key areas have cut short the Gunners’ campaign and with the ‘Invincibles’ era looking a mere past glory; it’s time the Arsenal board acted swiftly.

Los Angeles Lakers
16 NBA championships and a list of all-time great player including the likes of Kareem Abdul-Jabaar, Magic Johnson and Kobe Bryant added to the roster but still the LA Lakers are down in the dumps. Star Kobe Bryant went onto become of the major players for the Lakers and with him the franchise dominated much of the first decade of the 21st century with five NBA championships and making the playoffs all but one season (2004-05). But the Bryant’s health, contract issues and status quo presence threatens the team’s long-time status as a frontrunner NBA franchise.

A victorious celebration is often welcomed especially when the player comes out on top from a tough fight in a game that he/she was about to lose.

But there are times when it goes completely awry and China’s world and Olympic table tennis champion Zhang Jike might have found it out. The Chinese may face further action after being stripped of USD 45,000 in prize money for damaging advertising hoardings during over enthusiastic victory celebrations at a tournament in Germany.

Jike kicked the advertising hoarding next to the court after winning a close fought game.

With such celebrations coming into the spotlight for all the wrong reasons, we highlight some of the best 5 over the top and controversial celebrations that went sour in the world of sports:

England cricket team’s ‘Pee’ antics
After winning the 2013 Ashes series at home, the England players came under severe scrutiny when it was reported that three top England players allegedly urinated on the pitch at the Oval hours after the fifth and final Test. These allegations were brought to light by an Aussie journalist who reported that the ‘celebration’ involved Stuart Broad, Kevin Pietersen and Jimmy Anderson who had all made important contributions to England’s 3-0 success in the series.

Nicholas Anelka’s ‘quenelle gesture’
All was merry for French striker Nicholas Anelka when the former Arsenal and Chelsea forward signed up for West Bromwich Albion last season but it was not a happy ending for the forward. In an EPL game at their home ground ‘The Hawthrons’, Anelka made a ‘quenelle gesture’ which is in regards of hurting religious sentiments (Jews) and is termed as anti-semitic. In regards of the celebration, the club sacked him and was also sentenced to sentenced to a 5-match ban from the English FA as well as FIFA.

Edison Cavani’s ‘sniper celebration’
In the footballing world, each and every footballer lands in hot water and the latest addition to the list was Uruguayan and PSG striker Edinson Cavani. The forward received one of the strangest red cards when it appeared that his ‘sniper’ celebration, in which he pretends to fire a gun after scoring a goal, was not amusing the French referee Nicolas Rainville who believed Cavani was aiming a imaginary gun at the away fans and booked him for the offence. In return, the Uruguayan was baffled by the decision and in the heat of the argument got himself sent off.

Serena Williams does the ‘Crip Walk’
World number one in women’s tennis Serena Williams was so elated after defeating rival Maria Sharapova in the Olympic singles and winning the gold that she broke into a quick jig dance called as the ‘Crip Walk’ dance.
In her post-match press conference, Serena reacted to the celebration stating, “It was just me. I love to dance. I know what else to do. I was so happy and next thing I know I started dancing and moving. I didn’t plan it. It just happened.” But just as USA and Serena were celebrating the gold medal, some critics in the media criticised the ‘dance’. Some American journalists slammed the tennis star’s antics. Fox Sports reporter, Jason Whitlock, said: “What Serena did was akin to cracking a tasteless, X-rated joke inside a church… Serena deserved to be called out. What she did was immature and classless. She made a mistake, something we all do.”

Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikkonen’s Swearing-in
It was meant to be a celebratory post-speech at the podium but Sebastian Vettel and Kimi Raikonnen had some other plans when the duo left former F1 driver David Coulthard in a flush. When Coulthard asked for the reactions from Vettel and Kimi, here came some dangling reply. “Not much really. Last time you guys was giving me s*** because I didn’t really smile enough,” said Sebastian Vettel. “It was obviously a chance to f**k it up and we didn’t do that,” the German added in reference to finishing third having been sent to the back of the grid in qualifying.

Injuries are part and parcel of sporting world and many top athletes have fallen prey to injuries that have ravaged their careers and thus, forced an early retirement.

But there are a few who have continued to stay put despite the fact of being injury-ridden and fighting to stay fit.

With less time on the playing field, these below 5 athletes have spent more time with their doctors and trainers than playing the game itself. If you want to know who WE are talking about, check below:

Michael Clarke (Cricket)
Aussie skipper Michael Clarke is one of the many injury-prone cricketers that have seen very few playing time. Clarke is trying to recover from a hamstring injury that has kept him out of the Pakistan ODI series and further stated that, ‘it’s still a long way to go’. “I don’t know if ‘fine’ is right. I still think there’s a long way to go before I’m 100 percent fit for the Test match,” Clarke was quoted as saying by Cricket Australia (CA) official website. Michael’s career has been ravaged by injuries and with an all important World Cup coming up, Cricket Australia have a tough task ahead to keep the former fit and fine.

Abou Diaby (Football)
Once touted as the next ‘Patrick Viera’ at Arsenal football club, Abou Diaby has been plagued by injuries and setbacks in his playing career. The 28-year old played a League Cup match against Southampton recently but has yet to recover full match fitness. Diaby has suffered an incredible 40 injuries during his eight years at the club.

Rafael Nadal (Tennis)
Former world number one and French Open champion, Rafael Nadal has been nursing an injury off late that has kept the Spaniard away for a while. ‘Rafa’ has seen a turbulent 2014 ruin his playing career on the tennis court with a host of injuries including a recent one with appendicitis. Nadal has had problems with his knees in the past as well and with latest injury setback, the Spaniard has a challenging year ahead.

Zaheer Khan (Cricket)
From being a match winner in the 2011 Cricket World Cup for Team India to now being a mere spectator from afar; Zaheer Khan is another cricketer who has joined the list of injury-prone stars. Hamstring, muscle pains etc are one of the many injuries that left ‘Zak’ out of the field and straight onto the treatment table.

Mark Webber (Formula One)
Former Red Bull F1 driver Mark Webber is one of the finest racers on the racing track but also prone to many injuries as well. The Aussie driver had a broken leg back in a cycle accident back in 2008 as more bad news followed when the former was nursing an injury during the 2009-10 season. News of Webber driving through pain broke out that angered his F1 team.

Just as the season was headed towards a scintillating climax, tragedy hit! Marussia F1 driver Jules Bianchi lost control of his car on the wet track at the Japanese Grand Prix and at the same point collided with a recovery tractor that was working on a already hit Sauber’s Adrian Sutil.

After the race, some of the top riders including Japanese GP winner Lewis Hamilton were in a state of shock. Bianchi remains in a Japanese hospital with horrific brain injuries and is still ‘critical’.

Speaking to the press about the crash, here are what other riders had to say:

Lewis Hamilton, the 2008 world champion: “It’s not easy. It’s a very strange feeling, sat here talking about racing. It’s a difficult weekend.”

Nico Rosberg: “It’s difficult, because it’s shocking circumstances. But there is a job to do. It’s important we keep evaluating the sport and making it safer all round.”

After the crash, the Formula One is facing fresh calls to consider closed cockpits but still, though opinions are pretty much varied about the possible benefits. It is learnt that the cockpit covers were tested by the governing International Automobile Federation (FIA) after Brazilian Felipe Massa suffered severe head injuries during the Hungarian GP in 2009.

In 2012, there were some tests carried out using a forward roll hoop, a metal structure placed right in front of the driver but nothing materialised with the FIA. But even though the F1 administrators are leaving no stone unturned to review the crash, they are still at fault! Drivers are still at risk in the cockpits as well as the race tracks and even with the advanced technology at hand, the FIA is still lagging behind as far as safety measures are concerned.

There have been some horrific car crashes and accidents in the past none better than the one suffered to the great Aryton Senna. With that mind, it’s time F1 honchos stepped up the gas in reviewing the safety plans.

Current F1 champion, Sebastian Vettel will be bidding adieu to Red Bull Racing at the end of the season as the former is pinned to join former heavyweights, Ferrari.

Four-time champion, Vettel informed the Red Bull chief Christian Horner on Friday that he intended to leave and the team announced their official statement before the Japanese Grand Prix.

Horner and his Red Bull side have already named a replacement, promoting rookie Daniil Kvyat from its allied team Toro Rosso to join Daniel Ricciardo in a youthful 2015 line-up. “We want to warmly thank Sebastian for the incredible role he has played at Infiniti Red Bull Racing for the last six years. As we wish Sebastian well in the next stage of his career, we also look to the future with excitement, as the vacancy makes way for the next generation of Red Bull racers,” Red Bull said in a press statement.

With Sebastian Vettel all set to join the Ferrari F1 team, will the latter reign the roost again? Here are six unanimous reasons why WE think, Vettel will bring the glory back to Ferrari again:

1 – Signed a champion in Sebastian Vettel
When Ferrari signed on former F1 champ, Fernando Alonso alongside Kimi Raikkonen; many pundits predicted big things for the Italian team. But unfortunately, Ferrari couldn’t compete with the big guns but with the arrival of Vettel, all could change! The F1 driver who reigned from 2009 to 2014 can achieve big things, again with Ferrari.

2 – German connections
Well, Ferrari might have signed yet another German in Seb Vettel. The Red Bull star could emulate his idol and former world champion, Michael Schumacher at Ferrari and fans may see glorious years back again.

3 – The Alonso-Vettel rivalry could spark up some interest
Come next season, the Alonso-Vettel rivalry could see F1 season go down to the wire. If Vettel does move on to Ferrari (which he would), former rider Alonso might make sure, that the former does not take in the title charge.

4 – Ferrari’s new breed of drivers
With Alonso making a move (most probably Mclaren-Honda), Ferrari could swoop for young turks like Kevin Magnussen or Romain Grosjean. With Ferrari taking a stepping stone towards success, the arrival of Vettel could force other drivers to join the bandwagon.

5 – The new ‘Galacticos’
The Real Madrid’s of Formula One, Ferrari could dominate for years to come, when Sebastian Vettel joins the team. With Kimi Raikkonen on board and a whole new car to be unveiled next year, Ferrari could blaze up points on the racing tracks.

Thus, with the main race day on Sunday, Hamilton is in driver’s seat going into the race as well as Championship title.

Lewis Hamilton fought his way to a sixth pole of the season with a time of 1 minute 45.681 seconds and it could prove a decisive one amidst a Marina Bay circuit which will provide few passing opportunities.

Australia-born Red Bull driver Daniel Ricciardo, who is the only real threat posing to the Mercedes drivers for the Formula One championship, qualified third; less than two tenths of a second off Hamilton. Former world champion Sebastian Vettel came in fourth whereas Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso will start from fifth on the grid and Williams’ driver Felipe Massa from sixth.

It has been a disappointing season for the Ferrari drivers which has seen their chairman Luca Di Montezemolo step down as long-time chairman of the Formula 1 team. This comes after the famous F1 team underperforming in this season. Kimi Raikkonen who has yet hit the gear with the Ferrari team, had engine trouble on the final lap and had to park the car on the circuit. Even though the troubles, Kimi finished ahead of Valtteri Bottas of Williams. Astonishingly, the top eight cars were separated by just half a second.

After the qualification Hamilton spoke about his pole fight with the press. He said, “That was one of the most exciting qualifying sessions I have had for a long time, where there are a lot of people in the mix and you have to be spot on. It will be a good race to watch for the fans tomorrow, there will be a lot going on.”

On the other hand, Nico was a bit flummoxed with the finish. His reaction on the radio was not enthusiastic as he yelled ‘Damn it’. He told the reporters later on, “Seven-thousandths, when I think back to the lap, is nothing. A bit more here or there and I could have done it. Lewis did a good job to get pole, so fair play. There is a long race ahead and second is fine.”

More frustration for the F1 drivers this timeout is the ban on radio-team calls by the FIA. That could affect the team strategies as well as flirt with podium finishes as well. But with the luck on Hamilton’s side, Singapore GP could be the decider in the long and wary F1 season.

The Brit was was ahead of Rosberg on the first two time splits of his final lap but all of a sudden, his car drifted back allowing the German to clinch a fourth straight pole in succession and sixth in the past seven races. In his entire qualifying, Rosberg clocked 2 minutes, 5.591 seconds under some serious conditions, with the Spa track drenched following a heavy downpour.

The race heads in for a close one as both the teammates sharing a ‘cold vibe’ amongst them! Lewis Hamilton finished in 2:05.819 whereas former F1 champion Sebastian Vettel got a much-needed boost with the third quickest time.

Ferrari disappointed with their performances yet again as two-time champion Fernando Alonso came in fourth in his Ferrari with Aussie Daniel Ricciardo, the only non-Mercedes driver to win a race so far this season, just ahead.

The 2014-15 F1 season has seen the Mercedes drivers lead the pack with Hamilton winning five, Rosberg four and Red Bull’s Ricciardo clinching two in an impressive first season. Even with great engine and power surge, the 2008 champion was plagued by technical problems in his car.

Mercedes could not solve the brake problem in his car but Hamilton is still confident of landing the top honours in the Race Day. Sebastian Vettel who was supreme in the previous 2 seasons, somehow kept a low key.

The German driver’s victory at Spa last year was the first of nine successive wins that took the former towards an F1 title. But on current performances, he is languishing in sixth place overall in the standings and a podium finish would brand his season a success. For Vettel’s record, he has won 39 GPs that includes a record-equalling 13 last season and also clinching 45 pole positions. But, sadly for his fans and himself, Seb Vettle has only two podium spots this term -third in Canada and Malaysia.

The Spa circuit is not easy by any standards and the drivers will have a rough time especially if the rain gods keep the pouring on! With Nico Rosberg gunning for yet another numero uno spot, rival and teammate Lewis Hamilton will make sure, he remains hot on his ‘wheels’!

The 28-year-old, supported by Venezuelan oil and gas giant PDVSA, said he began to talk with Lotus since the season-ending Brazilian Grand Prix, reported Xinhua.

He admitted that he wants some change to improve his F1 career. “Lotus offered the very best opportunity for me to be competitive next season. It is a very good time for a fresh start,” he said. The Venezuelan would bring 35 million Euros’ annual sponsorship from PDVSA to Lotus which is financially struggling and failed to pay Finn Kimi Raikkonen part of his salary this season.

Team Principal Eric Boullier believed Lotus would cause surprises next year with talents and efforts of Romain Grosjean and Pastor. Maldonado joined Williams in 2011 and has spent three seasons with it. He won the Spanish Grand Prix in 2012, becoming the first Venezuelan champion of the event.
