Federer rues playing through injuries

A series of losses brought the former world’s number one Roger Federer to number seven in the latest ATP rankings for men.

A series of losses brought the former world’s number one Roger Federer to number seven in the latest ATP rankings for men. Federer also seems to have fallen behind in terms of competition, to the likes of Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal and Andy Murray. But the Swiss Master recently revealed that he played through injuries during the matches especially at the Indian Wells in March where he was suffering with a back injury.

Speaking to the press, he said, “With hindsight, I shouldn’t have done. They were errors.” But the 32-year old isn’t worried about his form offlate, as he seeks to start afresh in the upcoming Swiss Indoors that is scheduled to take place in his hometown. He adds, “I have to hope so because I know that I can play really well, especially indoor. That starts here in Basel with the advantage of playing at home.”

Federer has been a dominant force at the Swiss Indoors having won the tournament five times as he opens his account against 60th-ranked Frenchman Adrian Mannarino. Talking of the advantage of playing at home, Roger has further warned his rivals that he is “physically and mentally” prepared for a possible 15 matches in three season-ending weeks at Basel, the Paris Masters and ATP World Tour Finals in London.

Due to his poor form, Roger slipped in the rankings which makes him face a battle to qualify for the prestigious ATP Finals in London. Federer will be fighting for one of the three remaining places with fellow Swiss Stanislas Wawrinka, and Frenchmen Jo-Wilfried Tsonga and Richard Gasquet. How times have changed in the world of tennis today! All was once dominated by one man alone, now he is fighting hard to win it back.
