Yes the gorgeous lady is back to spread her magic with Zee TV show Ek Tha Raja Ek Thi Rani!

The show which premiered its first episode yesterday was well received by the audience and the fans.

The show became the talk of the time ever since the promo went on air. This is also Drashti Dhami’s first show after her marriage to her long-term beau Neeraj Khemka.

The show stars Drashti Dhami opposite Siddhant Karnick and veteran actress Anita Raj.

The story is set in 1945 and revolves around Gayatri (played by Drashti), the daughter of a rich moneylender who gets married to Rana Indravadhan Singh Deo (played by Siddhant Karnick). He marries her for political gains but is still in love with his dead wife. The story revolves around how he falls in love with Gayatri. Anita Raj plays Rana Indravadhan Singh’s mother on the show.

The best thing about the show is the comeback of Drashti Dhami who was missing from the screens since her last show Madhubala wrapped up.

Talking about the first episode Drashti Dhami truly impressed all with what she does best-acting! She is impressive as Gayatri and showed all the emotions and excitement really well.

Anita Raaj justified herself as royal Rajmata and she truly steals the show with her style and experienced performance. Siddhant Karnick although had not much to do in the first episode in terms of dialogue but he did complete justice to whatever he did in the first episode. Lot more expected from him and the cast.

Everything from the vintage cars, to the palace, and look of the character went well the era of the show.

We can’t really decide the fate of the show from its first episode but all in all fans look impressed and even to us the show looks promising.

The show has managed to keep us hooked for now and the TRPs next week will surely tell where the show stands in terms of rating.

With the popularity of Drashti Dhami we are sure the show is deemed to perform well.

Kudos Drashti Dhami for once again impressing all of us as Gayatri.

Hindi Television is soon becoming a major game changer as far as entertainment is concerned.

Add to it the growing power of digital media (read: Internet) and stay assured that the whole thrill of watching a movie in a luxurious cinema hall on a 70mm big screen may soon be a thing of the past!

No, this is not a catastrophe planning to play out in next few days, but sooner than later if things remain the way they are.

Going by the trends, the days of the movie doing a golden or a silver jubilee are way past their expiry date. Now it is just the opening weekend, which matters. If the movie does well, fine or else within one month you can watch the same film in the comforts of your home without spending a single rupee. Even if the movie does roaring business and somehow due to busy schedules you are not able to watch in a theatre, trust the producers and broadcasters to bring it on your TV within a couple of months of its release.

Well, it all started with the cable revolution when we suddenly had access to yesteryears’ movies all day and night long, sometimes as per our convenience. Now, with a bombardment of Hindi movie channels, all the recent releases run on your TV screens not once or twice, but multiple times till their cost is recovered from the advertising revenue. In fact the major entertainment channels like Star Plus, Colors, Zee TV and Sony take the lead in premiering such latest hits and then these flicks are given to their sister channels to squeeze every bit of revenue from their running potential.

For some it is good actually. Those patrons who like a particular movie and don’t want to buy its CD or DVD can watch the re-runs and have their share of entertainment even months after the initial release. But for those who cherish the whole experience of sitting in a dark hall with the intoxicating smell of popcorn and cold drink watching and losing themselves in the make-believe world of cinema, it is indeed a sad development to watch it at home, no matter what the comfort is!

To some extent, cinema halls are responsible for this decay due to the exorbitant prices of tickets and for a family of four it really becomes expensive to watch a new release every weekend. This pricing is again dependent on the cost of the movie and that depends on the star cast and so on and so forth.

In short, the ultimate sufferer is the avid movie-watcher who wants to enjoy the magic of cinema in a theatre only and not on a small screen.

Let’s hope the entire cost-dynamics and profitability of a movie are worked upon keeping in mind those who love their cinema for its art and not its economics!

Wondering what we are talking about?

Well, it is about these Indian TV channels and production houses which are actually doing something smart for a change and that is such a welcome sign!

There used to be a time when all movies producers and TV producers used to stay away from releasing their films and shows while the cricket world cup was on. The simple reason is that no one wanted to take such a huge risk in this cricket crazy country and burn their money knowing well in advance that for two months of global sporting event, the audience is going to be glued to only matches and nothing else.

Then what happened this time?

For starters, none of the big movies are getting released during the World Cup 2015 and especially after India’s mind-blowing initial two matches, movie studios must be thanking their stars for not taking such a gamble. For TV, it is a different matter altogether.

This time the world cup matches are in the morning and they end well before the prime time kicks in. Hence a proper segregation of male and female viewers happens. The target audience will have access to the remote when the channels want them to have control! Secondly, more than a month is left before the IPL season kicks in and families switch off from daily soaps to domestic high voltage cricket!

That’s why next week is going to be super happening. Zee’s new channel &TV is getting launched on 2^nd March with as many as 7 new shows while a new show on Colors, Swaragini makes it entry at 9:30 P.M. Not only that, on 3^rd March, channel Zindagi will see the launch of a new show, Shikkan. In a matter of two days, 9 shows will mark their entry in your living rooms, giving you enough choices!

In a way it is good for audience to select the shows they want to see and if few of them do strike a chord with the fans, then channels can at least hope that those shows will be watched even during the IPL so that the revenues will not be affected. It is smart programming and smart entertainment to give the audience enough time to get used to a show and also for the TV producers to tweak their shows as per the audience likings and tastes.

For now, all eyes are set on Monday. Let’s see what’s in store for us. Don’t know if we’ll have any shows that can keep us hooked on despite IPL mania, but then you never know!

Entertainment is really taking new wings in India!

As if it wasn’t enough to have so many New Television Channels In India, more and more are making their debut to provide us what they think would be more entertainment for us.

True, we Indians hardly have any outdoor facilities for a wholesome family entertainment except going to malls (that too in few select cities!!) or watching movies, but it doesn’t mean that we should be bombarded with hordes of TV channels in the name of entertainment trying to dish out same old stuff at the same timing, just with new packaging!

This time it is about Zee TV’s new offering ‘&TV’ getting launched on 2^nd March’15.

It was only recently that Zee had launched another channel, Zindagi showcasing Pakistani serials which definitely got some great reviews based on an engaging and realistic content in fictional space.

However, with &TV, it is entering the fiction show market with the kind of shows that we already see on other channels like Star Plus, Colors, Sony TV or Zee TV itself!

&TV is reportedly going to have four fictional shows to start off with namely, Begusarai, Razia Sultan, Bhabhi Ji Ghar Par Hai! and Badii Devrani. While Razia Sultan is a historical show like many other historical shows running across various Hindi and regional channels, Begusarai is based on feudalism based in Bihar and trying to bring a local flavor for the audience. Bhabhi Ji.. and Badii Devrani deals with social dramas in more or less a slice of life kind of way which sounds nice. However, none of these fictional shows are path-breaking or trying to give us something which isn’t already present on other channels.

Then what is the need for an entirely new channel? Is it because the shows have potential, but can’t replace other on-air shows? Or is the channel trying to hit the competition by having another fictional channel under its belt and divide the revenues?

Whatever be the reason, the only thing that matters is that as an audience member, you will have to remember another number on your remote for this channel and those paying for the channel packs, might have to shell out few extra bucks to try out this old recipe in new box! Who knows, this new dish might actually be tastier than what is being currently served!

By the way, to make sure that the new channel is a hit from the word go, they have roped in none other the King of Bollywood, Shahrukh Khan for a reality game show! Going by the track record of SRK’s hosting skills, it looks like a big gamble, but don’t write him off just yet; he might have some surprise up his sleeve!

We really wish that all these new channels do come up with something entertaining and out of box thinking so that we have a motivation to try out their shows for a change.

Or else, remote is still in our hands!
