The Lord of Cannabis is Lord Shiva who has been known for sharing the secret of ending pain and sadness. One of the ancient and traditional forms of peace of mind and pain is possible through the bhang. The description of weed and its uses by God is mentioned in sacred books. Enjoying the time forgetting the pain and being happy for the time being has been a greater achievement for his followers. Over time the followers of Lord Shiva are not only in India but all over the world.

Savoring and reliving to the best part of goodness giving up on worries and pains was a tradition that spread from the yuga of Parvati and Shiva. The Atharva Veda mentions it as a medicine to remove the pain that makes it the sacred plant.

Was there a need to start With Weeds By Lord Of Cannabis?

Shiva the Lord of Bhaang was given Cannabis to get rid of the pain. He is also known as Neel Kantha who had drunk poison. It turned his throat to become blue as an effect the reaction of the poison. Now, It was difficult to bear the pain, and therefore to get some relief he was offered bhang. Having it he was able to sustain from the poisonous drink. The story of Samudra Manthan is popular mythology in which the demons and monsters had shattered their lives by shaking the ocean (Samudra).

But instead of the Amrit(the drink to remain immortal), there was the eruption of poison. The poison was about to destroy the Universe, hereby to save his people and the earth Lord Shiva had drank all the Cannabis.

Maha Shivratri and having of Bhaang

Bhaang is the medicine to kill pain, also it is believed that it gives a way to gain spirituality. While Shiva is the only Lord who can win them over to kill the pain after having poison and at the same time gain spirituality. India is a place where the devotees celebrate the festivals by having weeds and Bhaang as cherishing the day for Shiva.

They also believe that having Cannabis keeps them close to the Lord of Cannabis. There are temples, sacred places, where the Aghoris are found to dedicate themselves entirely to the Shiva. They belong to a different world, not at all they have a similar living or thoughts of common people. They have a belief in transcending themselves.

Ganga the sacred river that has evolved from the bun or Jata of Lord Shiva, Aghoris are mostly seen nearby. Cannabis is their need to achieve wisdom, also they are respected as holy humans. Lord Shiva has also transformed into Aghori, that we know as Bhairava. The Aghoris practices rituals with skulls and ashes on Maha Shivratri, apart from having bhang. Cannabis is medicine to reduce inflammation that his followers and devotees use to cherish bravery and eternity.

He is one of the prominent Hindu deities who is a significant part of the holy trinity, Trimurti , Brahma, Vishnu, Maheshwar.

The highest form of Shiva is formless, limitless, and transcendental and the undisputed Brahman. Shiva is offered water, milk, dhatura, bhaang, akwan flowers to Shiva’s idol or Shivalinga to offer one’s prayers. Unmarried girls worship Lord Shiva in pursuit of getting a husband like him. Shivratri is celebrated during Chaturdashi of Krishna Paksha in Phagun, happens to be the Hindu lunar month.

Every day in the Hindu calendar has deep significance and a story tailored to each of them. However, they may vary from different communities and regions. Here is the most circulated story of Maha Shivratri.

Know the reason why Shivratri is celebrated:

As per the legend of Shiva Purana, two mighty Gods like Brahma and Vishnu were at loggerheads and descended into hand-to-hand fight to prove who is better than whom, seeing the predicament, Brahma asked Shiva to intervene and he turned himself into a huge column of fire to make them realise the fight was pointless. The fire column looked so enormous that Brahma and Vishnu decided to find the topmost end of it. Brahma took the form of a swan and flew upwards while Vishnu became Varaha and dug inside Earth but to no avail, no end of the fire column was traced down.

So, during his journey upwards Brahma met with Ketaki flower floating down slowly. Upon asking where she came from, the flower said she was offered at the top of the fire column. So, Brahma put an end to his search and took the flower for witness. This infuriated Shiva and he cursed him that he will enjoy the offerings from any devotee ever again. So, He is not worshipped by Hindus except there is only one temple, Pushkar temple located in Rajasthan that is dedicated to him. The Ketaki flower too was banished from being offered to any gods for worship. As Shiva tamed down the fight among Gods, the day is celebrated in his honor.

It is also believed in many North Indian states that Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati was wedded in this day hence the day carries a special significance and Shiva is worshipped in this particular day. Also, according to another legend, Shiva performs his heavenly dance of creation in the Mahashivratri night and the devotees come in this cosmic consciousness by chanting hymns and reading Shiva scriptures.

Maha Shivratri story – The notable temples like Konark, Khajuraho, Pattadakal, Modhera and Chidambaram temples celebrate Shivratri magnanimously.
