At parties, such caps are seen that are for fun and celebration. Designed caps of various styles are available in modern times. On contrary, the smaller form of cone-shaped hats is to express idiocy or fun. Anywhere when it is for celebration or festival the use of such hats are high. But it was a time when these caps were a sign of intelligence. The cap was an honor to the people who were scholars. It was for those to not only provide a smart appearance as a hat but also give the gesture of intellect.

So, if you see an image of a person with dunce caps from the time of the 13th century, then he or she is a scholar. Scientists and philosophers used to wear pointed caps. Even if they do not introduce themselves you can make out with the cone shape hat.

Dunce Cap and its discovery

The name of the Dunce cap was on the John Duns Scotus. He was a scholar, philosophies, and theologian who had become a priest in his twenties. His thoughts had developed new perspectives. It is the reason he was known as the inspirer of a renaissance in the 13th century.

The dispute between the Catholic Church and the King of France he was expelled from the country, led to an interrupt in his studies. Later he returned back, studied, and was honored with a Doctor of theology. John Duns was a favorite of his followers, who called him the Dunsmen. John’s belief in metaphysics pointed at the use of the Dunce cap.

According to him, the cap had the ability to work effectively for improving the intellects. The proper functions of the brain can increase knowledge and wisdom.

Metaphysical reason to use the cone-shaped hat

For students who required focus or concentration. Whenever a person has to concentrate, there is a need to focus above, it is a point in the head. Based on it, the cone-shaped hat was made for children to increase their concentration. To meditate, the yogis, saints, and other people can focus to reach the point of wisdom. The use of hats is seen in witches, powerful and intelligent characters. It shows that they are intelligent people who consistently try and approach wisdom and knowledge.

Slowly the use of the Dunce cap could become the best way to improve knowledge. As the priest had this idea to introduce the hat, the reason was to channel knowledge. The magical powers can be elevated with the use of the pointed hat at the top of the hat which was imagined for the witches. It is a metaphysical way to realize the energy implemented for thinking ability.

The strength of the cone is so extreme that can it can lift the power to think, and gain the knowledge to wisdom. It is known for the ritual magic that helps to reach the top with the energy as it reaches the peak of intelligence, also known as the raising cone of power.

It was a ban on sundance due to bloodshed offerings to satisfy the God of Nature. This is one of the oldest traditions that are performed by the Native Americans. Mostly the people of Canada to edging corners of North America perform the rituals. For the tribes of North Americans from the different parts of villages and outskirts, the sundance is a ceremony to celebrate.

Drums and music by Native Americans

Present performances of the ritual are with drums and music. The festival continues through the day from the afternoon pushing to the night. Normally young generation participates who are energetic to continue beating drums and playing ceremonial pipes.

In a world with digital exposures through videos and pictures the capturing of the ceremony is restricted.

Dance and other activities

Mostly tribes from Lakota, Nakota, Dakota, and Cheyenne perform the rituals with personal offerings. The dancers and participants fast for days as a part of the rituals. They have to stay in the open air without any shade from nature; it may be the severe sun or heavy rainfall. The dancers then pray in the form of dance to satisfy the Nature God.

Native American’s old people or elders know about the rituals that guide them leaders and the groups taking part in the celebration of sundance. Activities such as feasts, open-air camps, and also piercings are some of the common activities of the ceremony.

Rituals

The rituals have been continuing for generations after generations. Rituals include sacrifices, sacred fire burning throughout the ceremony till the fasting. Earlier offerings were fleshed and blood to satisfy and heal Nature.

This was a way to calm down the severity of nature that will bring prosperity and growth to their people. Both for the earth and sun, the offerings are arranged to keep showering their blessings on them.

Ban of Sun Dance

The sundance is banned in the US, it is restricted to only the tribal people. With the influence of modern times, there are changes to the offerings by Native Americans. People are now less confined to bloodshed and flesh to satisfy mother earth and the Sun.

The banning of the ceremony was in 1904 but still, the Native American tribes continue with their beliefs even after decades. The participants were tortured as their fleshes were torn pulling and hanging them from the poles. Apart from it, the piercings were on the breasts and other body parts that were inhumane with severe bloodsheds. The entire process was after they were fasting for days and dancing the whole day.

Apart from it animal skulls such as buffaloes and eagles are necessary to complete the rituals and offerings. The tribals are also great buffalo hunters as described in the history of their lifestyles. Hereby, sundance is still the main part of the tribals of North America but many do not participate in sundance due to the inhuman involvement and offerings to God which is also unrealistic.

Be spiritual! Believe in God! Know your soul!

These and many such advices are screaming through in our lives by thousands on a daily basis! Yet, hardly a few of them actually understand what is it being said to us and what needs to be done! We almost always get confused between religion and spirituality and think they are the same. Are they? Let’s clear it out for you!

Broadly speaking, religion is all about worshipping something or someone, following a set of rules and performing rituals to praise your God, in order to find God! Spirituality on the other hand is all about you, your salvation, and your journey without any compulsions of rules or rituals.

If we look at them closely, these are two different ideologies with different processes and different results.

Let’s show you how:

1) Religion Ties You Down, Spirituality Sets You Free

Religion asks you to follow a way of life and adhere to certain principles with consequences to face if not done properly, but spirituality asks you to follow your heart and listen to your inner voice about right or wrong.

2) Religion Scares You, Spirituality Offers Courage

Any religion on the planet asks you to do this or that unless you want to face the punishment. Spirituality on the other hand lets you know that love conquers all and how you should stand tall in the face of worst possible fears without worrying about the consequences. Religion cuts your wings, spirituality gives you new ones!

3) Religions Preach, Spirituality Believe In Self-Learning

Every religion teaches a way to God, the path to be followed. Spirituality tells you to know yourself and make your own path as we all are different individuals with different sensibilities and needs. Seeking higher truth is the way of spirituality, following a well-trodden path is religion’s forte!

4) Multiple Religions, One Spirituality

There are a variety of religions, Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Jewish, etc., all claiming to be the best while spirituality talks about the oneness of all. We all might be different human beings in various parts of the world, but at the core we all are same and made of the same matter. Hence the higher truth for all of us is going to be the same!

5) Religion Gives You Crutches, Spirituality Takes Them Away

When you follow a religion, you get an impression that only this religion and this way of life is good for you without knowing if there can be something more to life. Spirituality just gives you the freedom to be independent and take your own decisions and follow your inner calling. Deciding your own rights and wrongs with conviction help you listen to the call of your soul without anyone else telling you what is right or wrong!

For mere mortals like us, the easiest path is of religion as we are conditioned for spoon-feeding. But if you want to really grow as a human being and be at peace from inside-outside, the path is bit difficult, but enriching and that is the spiritual path! Without fear of punishment, without anyone else asking you to follow certain things out of fear, you can listen to your heart and do what it feels is right.

Think about it!
