Lesbian And Bisexual In India – Homosexuality is illegal in India.

Even though we don’t want it to be, it’s illegal. So, people who are gay/lesbians in India, go through a lot of things. You know, there’s always fear that covers a person who is gay. He/she clearly knows that “If I come out as a gay or lesbian, then some people in India will never accept me and I’ll be the butt of the joke.” Sadly, this is so true. There are so many straight people who will tease and spoil their reputation.

So, clearly, being a lesbian or bisexual in India is not easy. I don’t know if you’ve read this post, but on Quora there was a question that was asked “are there any lesbians in India and what’s it’s like to be a lesbian and bisexual in India?” Some girls came forward, and answered these questions.

(Answer given by Anamika Pareek) – Yes, here I am. I am sure there are many but because of bizarre state towards the LGBTQ community; people find it hard to come out. There are many people who don’t even know that we exist. Others think that it is a mental disease. When I told this to few of my friends they either told me to change my thinking or advice me to date a boy stating that I have to change my mentality. In return I told them I can’t change my orientation for which they said try it as nothing is impossible. Then I asked them can they change their orientation? Hell No!! Then how can I? It’s not Tubelight that you can switch it off. I was born this way and I don’t wanna hide it anymore. Because this is the real me. People in India don’t understand anything. I have lost many of my friends just because of the reason that I trusted them and came out.

(Anonymous user) – Yes i am a 17 year old lesbian from Delhi. But it is hard to come out. People make jokes that we are all in our closets but how can we come out with their creepy, judging eyes staring at us and cursing us.

I am out to my friends and pretty much everyone is okay with it but some people get weird whenever I mention my attraction towards girls so I usually avoid that topic.

What is Sonam Kapoor hiding?

Well, she is an amazingly beautiful and gorgeous girl!

Her sense of style and awareness of fashion is second to none and among the current crop of heroines in Bollywood, she is clearly the one who carries the crown of fashion diva with aplomb!

These characteristics, irrespective of her acting talent on screen, make her really desirable and any man would die to have her as a life-partner or would love to fall in love with her.

However, it is not the case and despite being in the industry for so long, except for a film-promotion related link up with Ranbir Kapoor, she hasn’t been in the news for any love affair! How strange is that!

Come to think of it, biggest of the stars, whether they like it or not, are regularly linked with their co-actors. Sometimes it is all about a film’s publicity and sometimes their well-hidden secrets tumble out of the closets and they stand naked in their public life.

None of this is true for the style icon Sonam Kapoor!

What could be the secret?

She is not that powerful that she can put a gag order on the entire media to not publish or show her love life. The only plausible explanation seems to be that she is actually not dating any man because she doesn’t like men! Period! If her choice is a woman, which is also pretty fine as there is nothing wrong being in love even with someone from the same sex, she must be keeping it under the wraps and really able to safeguard it!

If this is true, it will break a million hearts! But on the contrary, it will also give hopes to so many lesbians in the country who would really love to have Sonam as their lover! After all, she is well read, beautiful, and immensely successful. Which girl can say no to her?

We wonder what would be her dad Anil Kapoor’s and her entire family’s reaction to that she is a lesbian that is if they don’t know it already. Of course the family is broad-minded and may not have any problems accepting it, but if there is even an iota of truth in this, why don’t they come out in open and make it public news? Love should be celebrated and not hidden from the public eye! May be instead of worrying about her image as an actress taking a beating, they can consider another scenario that she gains more fans and more public support for being so bold! This might help her acting career as well given the fact that her movies aren’t really doing that great!

After acting with hottest dudes of Bollywood including Ranbir Kapoor, Farhan Akhtar, Fawwad Khan, Abhay Deol etc., and still being single and not having even a single bit of news about her love-life, it clearly means she has her heart somewhere else!

The recent news of Censor Board’s move to mute the word lesbian from the movie ‘Dum Laga Ke Haisha’ is another baffling move of the many different issues of censorship with respect to our Hindi films.

I don’t want to argue if ‘lesbian’ is a cuss word or not. I just want to remind Pahlaj Nihalani – the current Censor Board chief about the movies he had produced during his time.

Yes this man was a film producer and some of the scenes and shots are truly offensive.

In ‘Haathkadi’ Reena Roy abuses saying ‘bevde’ (abusive slang for drunkard)

Rakesh Roshan is shown to be a bad guy. He sexually harasses women.  In one scene he very casually even rapes and murders a girl.

The below scene from the movie ‘Ilzaam’ has words and shots that as per the way censorship is heading these days, this entire scene would have become a cuss scene.

Prem Chopra starts with the dialogue, “Laga lo”. Of course he explains then “gale laga lo.”

The use of the word ‘hawas’ is allowed, cigarette is openly smoked and the torture scene when he is poking the knife near Govinda’s eye is quite violent.

There is a serious attempt to rape scene also in this film. Shatrughan Sinha comes at the right time and saves the girl. Now comes the most offensive part.

Shatrughan Sinha justifies that he would have taken him to jail but he is relieving him only because he hailed from a good family background and his father was a respectable man. After hearing this amazing justification I went ‘khamosh’.

Seriously amazing logic!!!

That kind of portrayal of law and irrelevant justification to such serious criminal acts is what is truly offensive.

Here the Censor Board has a problem with the word lesbian?!!

Now this is apparently a comedy scene but listen to the dialogue at 1:11: (Movie – Shola Aur Shabnam)

Meri ladkiyaan itni bhi buri nahi hain ki pehele hi baar mein gaalon mein pappi de de (My girls are not so bad that they would kiss the guys in the first meeting itself)

Therefore the character of a girl is directly proportional to the time she takes to get physical. This stereotype projection and hinting the rules that women need to adhere to has resulted in a deeply rooted regressive mentality. If a woman kisses in the first meet then she is immediately termed as characterless and if she is having sex then she has to be a sl*t.

We are debating here if lesbian is a cuss word or not.

When you Mr. Pahlaj Nihalani produced such films there was no fuss but today lesbian became a cuss!
