Gurkha is the community from the hill region of Nepal. About 3,500 Gorkhas was in the regiment during the British rule. One of the most disciplined and bold regiments trained for centuries for and under the Indian Army.

Indian Army has the 135 infantry from which 17 are from the Gorkhas. Being the oldest and supreme battalion that plays the strongest role in India is from Nepal.

Growing bitterness with Nepal after Kalapani issue

In 2019 the revision of the Indian map over the eastern borderlines had grown the bitterness. The Kalapani was finally published in the political map of the country which Nepal believed to be there, since decades, the drawn line on the border was as the part of the Pithoragarh district. The area of Kalapani and the controversy had pulled down the decades of a strong relationship to worsen when the Land of Gorkhas had protested on the revise of the map of India. Both countries have shown a right on the piece of land which acts as a border between them.

Why did Nepal show their rights on the land? Nepal has been intensely connected to India when we learn about the history and cartographic reasons. The boundaries did not grow any negative impacts from decades while they were committed to the support and groom interactively. The bitterness over the issues of Kalapani was also seen in the talks between the military armed forces of the countries. Serving from the British rule, the relationship with Nepal was raised as a hurting sentiment for the country.

Seventh Regiment of Army in India

After the independence, the Gorkha was of 40 battalions regiment with 32,000 of the soldiers who started after 1947. The special arm of the force is the Kukri, a small knife which they carry as their signature. None of the wars and battles fought from India was without the regiment. They occupy a strong and traditional position in the armed force.

Their motto is “better to die than to be coward” when they started after the recruitment and they still have their sharpest killing traditional armed knife, “Kukri”. Their strong mind and masculine features influenced them to form a regiment despite their low height. Yes! They are the low heightened soldiers with the dying bravery attitude that has made them an important part of Indian battalions.

Their presence was also in the world war-1 and world war-2. India’s relationship with Nepal is not only connected by the armed forces but also by the cultures and society.

Not only are the armies interlinked but they are the part of India when the relationship suddenly was set under pressure. The Gorkhas are trained and then they take the oath after which they are handed over under the National securities. This enhances the deep-rooted connection of the generations and families from Nepal in India, you can find their presence in the eastern region of India even today, they call themselves Indian. Describing their intensity in relationship with Nepal.

Soldiers are the only lot that actually deserves the name HERO.

There is no country without an army and there’s no army without its soldiers. We don’t know their lives closely, and hence, we don’t know many facts.

Let us take a moment in our busy little lives and think over the kind of experiences an Indian soldiers have to go through in his/her life.

Things that Indian soldiers go through –

1. A young awestruck boy, overwhelmed, proud and extremely happy at the very sight of the Army Academy is what every soldier is, when he steps into the life, with head held high! With dreams of heroism, and aspirations to bring out some real action on the ground, the young lad dives into the training!

2. And yes the appearance needs to be changed, needs to be aligned with the responsibility that the soldier will carry on the shoulder. Frivolous dressing and the long hair – a strict NO NO! All goes, with a sad sigh! The heart breaks into a million pieces with those flowing hair loosing the head grounds, but frets he not, for it’s all for the motherland!

3. The 3 excruciating stages of training that the Indian SOldier goes through are bone crushing! Gruelling to the core, than you can ever imagine! Starting from early morning soldiers are initiated into intense physical and psychological training. The idea is to make them tougher, faster and more efficient. And the immediate goal is to habituate the soldiers into being physically and mentally alert at all goddamn times.

4. When they finally make it to battle field, they unanimously chant – “if death strikes before I prove my blood, I promise, I will kill death”. To put things in perspective, let me recount to you the story of a man – Jaswant Singh Rawat – who single-handedly baffled 300 Chinese soldiers. During the Indo-Chinese war in 1962 when Jaswant’s entire company retreated in the face of advancing Chinese army, he insisted on staying back. With the help of 2 Monpa tribal girls he kept the Chinese army at bay for 3 whole days. When they eventually found out that they were being fooled by a single Indian soldier, they captured him. But by then Jaswant had shot himself in the head. We are proud of you lads!

5. And then comes the saddest of experiences when a soldier loses a comrade. To see a fellow soldier die in front of his eyes is like seeing a brother dying you grew up with. And you just cannot do anything about it! It’s killing, trust me, it is!

6. Death, Destruction, Blood, Wounds and Bullet Holes – These images haunt them for as long as they live! Nightmares follow them when they try to get some sleep!

7. Returning troops often suffer depression and Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (aka PTSD) resulting from the horrible ordeal they’ve gone through in the battlefield. For war veterans PTSD occurs from traumatic incidents like mugging, being subjected to 3rd degree torture, raped as war prisoners or being held captive. Soldiers suffering from PTSD become emotionally numb and are often driven to committing suicide!

8. The experience of washing away the unbearable guilt of having killed someone for the first time is something we’ll never know. But our dear soldiers understand that back home their loved one’s are counting on them, to keep them safe and sound. And that is the reason they keep everything behind them and return with a smile on their faces. No matter how haunting the battlegrounds are, off they go, marching to the front once again, vowing that they’ll return, either victorious or wrapped in the tricolour, and then one day they experience the joy of saving a comrade, which adds to the glory, to the ultimate satisfaction of being a soldier.

10. Letters become a significant part of their lives and the lives of their families. The only way they can communicate, touch and feel the presence of the loved ones. The window to the lives they are not a part of, day in and day out! They live their families, throw the letters only.

11. No matter what hardship they face, every time they view the DLTGH (days left to go home) marked on the calendar, their heart melts. They count the moments for that day when they can return to their families, to their newborn babies, waiting kids, melancholic wives and grieving parents. To hug them and tell them that they are standing right there, to take care of everything. Joys of returning home alive, to love, to embrace and to live is something most of us will never truly understand the way soldiers do.

12. And no matter how happy and comfortable they are, no matter how much they love being home, when the motherland calls, they’ll rise without hesitation and march again to save the country.

13. For Indian soldiers, the stars on their shoulder are way too magnificent than the one’s in the distant sky. They live, they fight, they love… everything for the nation!

Their very own India!
Long live the Indian soldiers!

Indian Army comprises of Indian armed forces, Indian Air Force, The Indian Navy and the Indian Coast Guard safeguarding us from external forces.

They rule out extreme cold, life threats and go through rigorous physical training that exude their unwavering dedication towards the country thereby protecting national wealth and other interest of the people at large. In this bargain, they have to let go of the comfort of their home and stay aloof from families till days on end to serve the motherland but they conditioned their minds like that which really deserves hands down.

What’s more, Indian Army is looked up to for inspiration as being the 3rd largest army in the World and here are the reasons:

1. They control the highest battlefield in the world:

No prizes for guessing, Siachen Glacier, which is 5000 metres above the Mean Sea Level (MSL). Standing guard here is quite a big deal because you don’t know when the next resupply Helicopter is going to descend. There is zero visibility on foggy days which lasts for at least a month. It takes 3 hours to even heat up water for a wash and they can call home for just two minutes once a week.

2. We have the biggest ‘voluntary’ army in the whole wide world:

No one is ever forced to join the army. Young hearts feel the raging urge to serve the motherland hence they risk their lives on their own will which is really not the case in many other countries.

3. Our army is adept at mountain warfare:

Since the tumultuous border areas in India are mostly hilly terrains, they are conditioned to fight like true warriors in mountains. The Indian Army’s High Altitude Mountain Warfare School is highly regarded around the world for its elitism. This is routinely visited by Special Ops Teams from the U.S, U.K and Russia. U.S special forces were trained in HAWS before they set out to invade Afghanistan.

4. India tested its nuclear arsenal consecutively in 1970s and late 1990s, without giving CIA even a single inkling:

CIA still can’t digest this failure in espionage and detection.

5. There are no caste reservations in Indian army unlike other government entities:

So, apparently people from all walks of life can join the army and fulfil their dream to serve the nation and its people while being treated with equal respect and enjoying the same privileges. They are selected over the merits of fitness and some strict tests.

6. Only two casualties were there in the battle of Longewala on which Indian movie ‘Border’ is based:

In the year 1971, a famous battle was fought between India and Pakistan where 120 Indian soldiers with 1 jeep armed with M40 recoilles rifles encircled the fort against 2000 Pakistani soldiers equipped with 45 tanks and 1 mobile infantry brigade. The Indian soldiers were on the losing side in the first leg but they didn’t budge from the ground until the help of the Air Force came and they dispersed the aggressors.

7. Indian Army carried out Operation Rahat, the biggest civilian rescue operation of the World so far:

When Uttarakhand was struck by massive flood in the year 2013, Indian Air Force evacuated civilians by rapid action. It is deemed the biggest civilian rescue operations so far which started on 17th June, 2013. Indian Army airlifted at least 20,000 people, flew a total of 2.140 sorties and dropped a total of 3,82,400 kg of relief material.

8. The Ezhimala Naval Academy in Kerala is the largest of training institute of Asia:

Indian Navy personnel are trained here and its status is already mentioned above.

9. Indian Army boasts of Horsed Cavalry Regiment:

Only 3 of such regiments are left in the history.

10. Indian Air Force has an out-station base in Tajikistan:

It is gearing up for another such out-station in Afghanistan now.

So, things are on a swell for Indian Army and we are proud!

Soldiers are the only lot that actually deserves the name HERO.

There is no country without an army and there’s no army without its soldiers. We don’t know their lives closely, and hence, we don’t know many facts.

Let us take a moment in our busy little lives and think over the kind of experiences an Indian soldier has to go through in his/her life.

13. For an Indian soldier, the stars on their shoulder are way too magnificent than the one’s in the distant sky. They live, they fight, they love… everything for the nation!

Their very own India!
Long live the Indian soldiers!

The situation in Yemen is worst for the locals, including Indians residing in the country. The Saudi-led attacks on the Shiites have taken many lives spawning fear among the residents.

Most Indians were angry that when India celebrated Shaheed Diwas, our Minister of State for External Affairs celebrated Pakistan National Day hosted by the Pakistan embassy in New Delhi. However, it was wrong of the media – online and print – to wrongly target Singh for his participation in the celebration. He has served the country during the Indo-Pakistani war of 1971 and still continues to do so, though now as MoS.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally telephoned King Salman of Saudi Arabia requesting cooperation and support to evacuate the stranded Indians in Yemen, to which the Saudi King agreed.

As a result, the Indian Navy has done something no one would have expected, which is evacuating close to 350 Indian citizens as part of “Operation Raahat”, who were left high and dry in war-torn Yemen.

Narendra Modi sought help of King Salman of Saudi to evacuate Indians in Yemen

Rescued with a Navy vessel, the Indian nationals safely reached Djibouti; from there they were securely taken back to India by Air Force C-17 Globemaster. Many Indians are still stranded in Sana’a, the capital. Another aircraft is soon to reach to bring back the marooned Indians.

Indians rescued Air Force C-17 Globemaster

VK Singh is one of the most respected Army men and his treatment after attending the Pakistan National Day, at the hands of Indians, was totally unfair. He retired in 2012 as Chief of Army Staff after serving the Indian Army for forty-two years.

Singh proves everyone wrong by embarking on this difficult mission overseas, in the process exhibiting his dedication for India and its citizens. Where the night rescue saw the Navy evacuate 349 Indians, its future missions will see as many as 4,000 Indians brought back safely to their homeland.

VK Singh’s integrity was wrongly questioned and many of his criticisers will have their apologies ready when Singh returns with the remaining Indian nationals from Yemen.

We salute you, Mr. Singh!
