No, I am not going to start a preachy lecture about how the youth of the country should lead their lives! Ours is a free country and everyone is free to lead their lives the way they want without hurting anyone. As simple as that!

But what we need to ask ourselves is, are we living the way we are supposed to? Every day we claim our rights on freedom of speech, freedom to live, freedom for this, freedom for that etc. How many of us actually value that freedom though? If you look around, more and more youngsters, the so-called future of our country, are found to be enjoying dope, sex and booze, more than sharing their responsibilities towards their own lives! Let’s not talk about responsibility towards family, friends, society or nation! It is all about their life, their decisions, and their way of conducting themselves with no concern about how their actions are impacting others!

Some people might argue that the nation is in the dumps, there are no jobs, and youth is sitting idle even after education so their actions are justified. I am sorry, but I tend to disagree with such lame excuses. Those who deserve are getting jobs. Those who have worked on their skill sets are landing up working for the best organisations. Those who are bringing discipline in their life are achieving their dreams, no matter how fast or slow the process is!

It is a sad state to watch youngsters idling their time away criticising the society and the system instead of doing something substantial about it. Change doesn’t happen overnight and only by posting your views on social media, don’t expect change to happen.

It starts with oneself!

Bring a change in your thought process, be responsible for your actions and try to do something that is within your reach to make a change. No one is expecting a single man or a woman to act like a superhero and rid our country of all the ailments. Instead, take small steps, the steps that bring change, albeit in a slow manner, but those that are long-lasting changes.

It is the state of the society that party songs celebrating alcohol consumption, drugs and sex are ruling the charts! No, the movies are not feeding the society, it’s vice versa! The demand is generating supply and we are happily grabbing what’s being offered to us. It is cool these days to have competitions about how much can one drink in one night or how many sex-sessions can one have at one go. Does that help improve life? Does that bring a positive change in your life? Sadly, the answer is a big NO!

Let’s try and enjoy life, but only after we have discharged our duties towards life with utmost sincerity.

It is only one life guys; don’t waste it on temporary sources of entertainment.

Enjoy them, but enjoy your life too and life is not just dope, sex and booze!

It is much more than that; just scratch the surface and find out how it can be more fun without falling into the trappings of short-lived fun!

India our motherland has witnessed numerous martyrs for the freedom of its people.

Whenever we talk about martyrdom in our country there are some names that instantly flash in our mind. Bhagat Singh is one of the most important people when we mention about the freedom struggle of India.

Today, on 23 March in 1931, Bhagat Singh, Rajguru and Sukhdev were hanged by the British government. This day is till date celebrated as Shaheed Diwas in India.

At the mere age of 23, Bhagat Singh decided to fall for the freedom of the country and fought like a brave heart against the Britishers. Unlike the Gandhian principles, he had revolutionary ideas to set India free.

But apart from being a brave freedom fighter, Bhagat Singh was an amazing personality who believed in simple joys of life. He was anguished by the Jallianwala Bagh massacre that set an unusual fire within him to fight against the Britishers like a brave heart never before.

Just like any other normal man Bhagat Singh could have easily had a life of bed of roses, opted for some secured job and led a comfortable life marrying a girl for the rest of his life. But the fire in him actually made him work rigorously for the country’s freedom. Despite of number of films made on Bhagat Singh, his love life is still under the cover and not many people know about his lady love, although, he announced freedom as his bride in one of his letters to his mother.

Some people believed that there was a girl in Bhagat Singh’s life who was supposed to get married to him. After that, it is believed that she remained unmarried throughout her life and still known as Bhagat Singh’s widow. She was all dedicated to him and this strong decision of her life also defined her love towards him.

Many people do not believe this story and say that he liked the fellow revolutionary in his group, Durgawati Devi who accompanied Bhagat Singh from Lahore once. She was also a famous revolutionist and they worked together for the freedom struggle.

Also according to some of the letters that Bhagat Singh wrote to Sukhdev, you will realize that even this tough man had a soft heart and a balanced nature. He did write some beautiful poems which throw light on his philosophy towards life and love. The grace with which he used to carry himself was commendable.

The passion that this young man had at this tender age is something that youth of every era should look up to and as far as his love life is concerned even this man had a heart of gold if not for the lady but for the Motherland.

India attained freedom on 15th August, 1947!

With that came the right to live, right to speech, and right to many other things for all.

But, are the women in our nation, practising those rights to their own will?

Are women, be it in an orthodox society or any modern household (apart from some exceptions) making a life as per their own will and wish?

Are they allowed to make the smallest of choices, when it comes to decisions as small as going out for a friends’ night out or just for a movie with the gang? Don’t they have to seek permissions?

Can they roam around on the streets feeling safe and secure without any fear of getting disgraced or raped?

Have women attained freedom at all?

With the cases of more and more women becoming victims of domestic violence, family atrocities, sexual violence and never ending rape coming to light, we women are far from anything which is spelled as FREEDOM.

I say, it’s a woman only who will have to speak for self and snatch that freedom, and this is how you do it:

Overcome The Taboos

The first and foremost thing is to overcome all the enforced restrictions and taboos, and live your life the way you want it… It is, after all, your life! You do not need to be a conformist or anything else, just be yourself. You do not have to seek validation from anyone. Learn to make your choices, if you know that they are not going to harm anybody in person or the society by and large, and they will just enhance your life.

Once you learn to overcome all of that, you can regenerate your life. And besides that, you will also start to care for your health and body even more, when you get rid of all the supposed shame, which these imposed boundaries and social taboos tend to inflict.

The good thing here is that besides health and other related issues, you will start doing things that make you feel happy and good about yourself, without any uncalled for embarrassment. Not just that, you will be able to use lots of things which you never had nerves for, or you felt uncomfortable about, and for what? Why to feel uncomfortable? For some silly social conventions? Please… sometimes they are just a pain in the… you know what!

Once you get rid of the social stigmas and are able to bring in the self confidence that you always needed, you will see that so many paths are open, and you can take them all. Health, profession, pleasure, it is all yours, so why not do the things you want, since they are for you. And just that you know,  YOU DESERVE IT. Happiness is a right and we all know it.

Teasing, Rape and Violence are Not Your Embarrassments

Ok agree, that a woman is biologically created to appear vulnerable and a soft target for many unsolicited actions, but that doesn’t, and should not, stop you from doing the right thing. If you find yourself in a life situation where you are disgraced, or besmirched, even by a family person or a friend, BRING IT TO LIGHT AND REPORT TO THE AUTHORITIES!  Because it is not your shame, it is and it MUST BE the shame for the one who inflicted it on you! Shout for your right if you have to, scream to ask for it, snatch it! But do not become a victim of pain, and embarrassments imposed by the society, that hold you back from doing the right thing.

You Create Life

To be a woman is a such a beautiful experience, when you know that it is only you who can create and facilitate natural human life on the planet. You ought to be treated with respect and honour. Most of the times it is our own fault, more than anybody else’s, that we succumb to the situation, for the soft demeanour that we have. We do not want trouble for family and that is how we become the sufferers. But then again, who created that family, who is nurturing the family? If that one single individual is not given a respectful life, a status in the society, the right to choose, and the right to fight for self, then no one deserves it more than her. If a woman is not happy, chances are, that she won’t be creating a happy and wholesome life for those around her.

You Create Life

A woman’s mental and physical health are the greatest benefactor for her family’s mental and physical health.

It is not a curse to be a woman. It is one blessing that everyone should ask for. Be thankful that you are a woman and give self the freedom that you deserve, IT IS  YOUR RIGHT TOO.
