The maxi dress has been a favourite with fashionistas the world over. The comfy dress that can dressed up or down with a belt and other accessories looks flattering on almost everybody. But how can you make the dress absolutely stunning? How do you wear it make a bold and bright style statement? We tell you…read on!

Layer it up:
Depending on whether want your dress to look casual or classy, you can add layers to it. Choose a sexy trench coat in neutral shades or warm tones to pair with your maxi dress, in case of a formal setting. Opt for a funky jacket or off-shouldered coat for a fun evening. You can also add layers underneath your dress. If the dress is clingy, go for a ganji in cool prints or colours to complement your maxi. Make sure to choose either a neutral shade like brown, tan, mahagony or a pick a shade out of the dress in order to create a neat pattern. If you want to look taller, grab a jacket that ends four inches above your waist and clinches tight at the top.

Add a belt:
One of the sure shot ways to rock a maxi dress is by opting for a belt that can fall loosely by the side or be clinched at the waist. You can choose from a range of blingy belts to sophisticated ones, depending upon the occasion. If you’re feeling adventurous, match your belt with your earrings or necklace to draw all the attention to your chest area. This works fine on those women who don’t have great legs, but amazing set of twins. You can also wear a long chain that drops right above your naval area. If your dress is plain, go for trendy neon belts that will look great on any maxi dress, including the ones with a collar.

Throw in a fancy stole:
This is where you can really play it up. Turn your work dress into a party-appropriate one by throwing in a fancy stole. Match neutral, dull shades with bright and peppy stoles to not just life up the place, but your mood as well. You can go for stoles with asymmetrical, architectural or halogen patterns if your dress is plain or too dull. And if your dress is funky, pair it with a classy stole.

Colorblock it:
You can colourblock with a statement piece, layering or the dress itself. The easiest way to do that would be to use two clashing colours and merge them in such a way that look great together. For a day event, opt for lush pinks and tangerines that may not belong to the same colour family, but look fabulous when colorblocked together. For a nightout, throw in deep purple with silver-grey or combine chocolate brown with olive green or simply opt for white and black. You might even use a pop shade of red lipstick with a bright pink dress or carry a yellow bag with a scarlet red outfit!

Buttoned-down and tied:
For a weekend getaway, do denims with your dress. It might be the oldest trick in the trade, but it works really well. Keep your denim shirt ruffled at the top , with the buttons undone at the end so the ends can be tied up. You can pair these with just about any dress, but make sure to do up your hair in a casual ponytail or updo, so that it’s away from the collar. The beauty of a button-down shirt lies in its collars, so don’t hide it under your mass of hair. You can go for side-swept hair and plaits, but casuals pulled-back high ponys will look effortlessly sexy.

While doing maxis, keep your personal taste and body shape in mind. If you’re bottom-heavy, go for long trenches and fancy coats that end at your knees. If your bosom is the envy of all, show them off in a cleavage-popping dress. Remember to pick rust, muted golds, bright tangerines and mauve purples as they are in this season. Also, wear your dress with confidence and you’ll be able to pull off even the most ridiculous of cuts and designs with elan!
