Delhi-based fashion designers Kanika Seth and Mekak Pruthi are all set to revive the historic Indian fabric – khadi – at the Lakme Fashion Week Winter/Festive 2013, which begins on August 22. The duo, who owns a clothing brand Threesome in the capital, is known for dramatic constructions and futuristic designs.

The new collection Embryo features an array of long pencil skirts and cropped tops, among other ensembles made of khadi in earthy tones. “The range revolves around the revival of the fabric. Khadi is being increasingly sidelined over preference for synthetic fabrics. Our mission is to go back to our roots and highlight these fabrics which are not only eco friendly, but also diverse,” the designers jointly said in a statement.

When asked about the inspiration behind the collection, the duo shared that it is inspired by the concept of passage of time and captures the essence of the Indian who lives in big cities, but is still connected to traditions.
