Real Madrid have reached an agreement with star striker Cristiano Ronaldo to extend his contract for a further three years.
La Liga giants Real Madrid on Sunday confirmed that they had reached an agreement with star striker Cristiano Ronaldo to extend his contract for a further three years until 2018, putting an end to the rumours of a ‘return’ to Manchester United.
At a grand gala held at Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabeu, Ronaldo commented that it had never entered his head to leave the club. He said, “The president gave me his word at the end of last season and I gave my word to him. It is something I always wanted to happen and the president as well. Also the fans want it to happen and it was for them that I decided to carry on,” he said. He added further, “It never entered my head to leave Madrid, because I feel very happy here. The people treat me well and that is important.”
By signing a deal at Real Madrid, Ronaldo has now become the highest paid footballer on the planet. His deal is worth £76million (over €90m). So the Los Blancos will shell out £15m a year for their prized asset after tax and before bonuses. It was rumoured that the Portuguese forward was somewhat ‘unhappy’ with the arrival of Welsh winger Gareth Bale but the two teamed up quite well at the 2-2 draw at Villareal on Saturday.
In 203 games for Real Madrid, Cristiano Ronaldo has scored an amazing 204 goals that includes a Spanish league title and Copa Del Rey.
With such a phenomenal record, Real Madrid must be hoping that this season Ronaldo gives them more than the buck – a UEFA Champions League!
