The real test: Kejriwal to prove majority on the floor tomorrow

The biggest win for the Kejriwal was his delivery of two poll promises ‘“ free water upto 667 lts and 50 percent power tariff cut upto 400 units. This may ensure majority verdict in his favour.

The Delhi assembly met for the first time after elections today. Newly elected chief minister Arvind Kejriwal and his ministers took oath as legislators today.

They were administered oath as a member of the legislative assembly by the Congress leader Mateen Ahmed who was named pro-tem speaker of the house.

Urban Development Minister Manish Sisodia took oath after Kejriwal. Both of them, however, left the house soon after taking oath.

The other five ministers – Rakhi Birla, Girish Soni, Satendra Jain, Saurabh Bharadwaj and Somnath Bharti – also took oath. They were followed by other legislators.

Congress legislators looked subdued while lawmakers from the Bharatiya Janata Party drummed the table whenever their legislators stood up for the oath.

Arvinder Singh Lovely of the Congress was the lone legislator who took oath in English while Nand Kishore Garg and Naresh Gaur took oath in Sanskrit.

Anil Jha took oath in Maithili language.

Aam Aadmi Party supporters gathered outside the main gate of the Delhi Vidhan Sabha to watch their party leaders arrive for the first assembly session.

The D-day for Delhi cheif minister Arvind Kejriwal is tomorrow when he will have to prove his majority on the floor of the assembly.  The 28-member minority government of the AAP has taken outside support from Congress party, who by far, has not been much supportive.

The biggest win for the Kejriwal was his delivery of two poll promises – free water upto 667 lts and 50 percent power tariff cut upto 400 units. This may ensure majority verdict in his favour.

However, it is yet not certain whether fulfillment of these promises will satisfy Congress or not.
