Lalu jailed for five years, ceases to be MP

A CBI court on Thursday jailed former Bihar chief minister Lalu Prasad for five years and also fined him Rs.25 lakh for his involvement in the fodder scam.

With this, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) founder leader will lose his membership of the Lok Sabha in line with a Supreme Court ruling.

Another former Chief Minister Jagannath Mishra has been sentenced to four years in jail.

The RJD chief was convicted on Monday with 44 others in the case that involves the embezzlement of 950 crores from the state government treasury in the name of fodder and medicines for non-existent cattle.
