Dear Akhilesh Yadav, If You Can’t Run UP Govt, Quit.

Over the period of time, his failures have only come to the fore and there is nothing to show that he is a good administrator. Maybe he should quit.

It is a classic case of repeated failure of government machinery and leadership. Within 48 hours, three incidents of rape and violence against women have been reported from Akhilesh Yadav’s Uttar Pradesh. In addition to that, whole of the UP, except the home constituencies of the SP chief’s family, is reeling under massive power cuts.

But the UP CM appears to be sleeping.

While two minor girls were gang raped and hanged from a tree in Badaun district, mother of a rape victim was brutally beaten up by the family of the rapist for not withdrawing the case against them. Another shocker came from ruling Samajwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav’s constituency Azamgarh where a minor was gangraped by four men.

The cases have shed light on many lapses of the Akhilesh Yadav-led UP government. In the Badaun rape case, much to the shame of UP CM, two police constables along with four others were involved in the incident. The distraught family has claimed that the cops refused to help them in the case. The two girls, who were cousins, had gone out of their house in the nearby fields after 9 PM as they did not have any toilet at home.

It was only after the chiding of Home Minister Rajnath Singh that the UP government submitted a ground report on the case promising to nab the culprits as soon as possible. The UP government also announced setting up a fast-track court for the case. Till the latest news, the UP Police had arrested three culprits including two constables. The cops involved have been suspended too.

But why did it take chiding of the home minister to the UP government for taking any action in the case? The UP CM should have taken the initiative himself. Interestingly, the increasing rape cases have acquired casteist overtones over the period of time. But the UP CM is not concerned at all.

The lawlessness in the UP government is pretty much obvious by the non-stop cases of rape and violence against women coming to light on a daily basis. Just few months back, a naked body of a girl was fouund in a well. She was raped and her private parts were brutalized. Another minor girl had committed suicide after her rapist had created a video of her and had threatened to make it public.

But the UP CM seems not be learning anything from such incidences. The Muzaffarnagar rape incidence, before and after the big riot in the area, is a big example of his ignorance and arrogance.

UP CM’s father and SP chief Mulayam Singh Yadav had termed the rape cases as “mistakes committed by boys” during one of his election rallies. At that time, no clarification had come up from the UP CM himself. Now we know that he is as insensitive as his father for his response on the Badaun incident was pretty much the same. He is reported to have asked a journalist asking questions on the incident: “You aren’t in any danger, are you?”

Similar was his response on the issue of power cuts. When Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati accused Akhilesh government of punishing people of UP for not giving his party votes in the Lok Sabha elections by forcing them to stay in extreme heat and darkness due to massive power cuts, and MoS Piyush Goyal leveled similar charges and cleared the centre’s stand by mentioning that UP government is not buying its quota of electricity despite availability, the UP CM answered arrogantly.

He blabbered something about providing coal to various government power projects and being very much capable of producing electricity by itself and not needing any suggestion and help from the centre on the same. But there was no expression of remorse or pain or concern on his face. Just plain arrogance.

The insensitivity towards the problems of his people and the added ignorance towards the law and order situation in the state indicates that Akhilesh has no interest in running the state. Then what is he interested in?

Over the period of time, his failures have only come to the fore and there is nothing to show that he is a good administrator. Maybe he should quit.
