Samsung is all set to launch its super 20 MP camera smartphone in India. The Samsung Galaxy K Zoom boasts of mind-blowing camera specs coupled with some bleeding internals. Earlier this year, Sony also launched its excellent 20 MP camera phone, dubbed Sony Xperia Z2, which offers magnificent specs. We pit these two phones against each other to check out who wins the rat race of being the ultimate high-end camera smartphone.

Design & Built

The Samsung Galaxy K Zoom is an improvised version of its predecessor, Galaxy S4 Zoom. Thanks to the camera lens with 10x optical zoom, the phone is pretty chunkier than the usual smartphones. On the other hand, the Sony Xperia Z2 exudes a premium feel with its aluminium frame, glass panels, and symmetrical design.

Features

Sporting a 4.8-inch Super AMOLED display with 720×1280 pixels resolution, the Galaxy K Zoom offers great viewing angles and a vivid screen. Sadly, the colors seem over-saturated and images appear fuzzy. Meanwhile, Xperia Z2 poses a 5.2-inch Full HD TRILUMINOS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution and a strong pixel density of 423 ppi. The outcome is incredibly crisp and bright pictures.

While Xperia Z2 derives its power from the mighty 2.3 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 801 processor coupled with 3 GB of RAM, Samsung’s newbie houses a hexa-core unit comprising a 1.3GHz quad-core & a 1.7GHz dual-core processor, together with 2 GB of RAM.

While both the smartphones run Android 4.4 and hold MicroSD slots, the Galaxy K Zoom offers 8 GB of internal storage which is expandable up to 64 GB, and Xperia Z2 provides a capacious 16 GB of in-built storage which can further expand up to 128 GB.

Camera

Now, here comes the interesting part, where both the phones fiercely compete with each other in terms of their specs and functionalities. The Galaxy K Zoom’s rear camera comes loaded with features, such as, 10x optical zoom, optical image stabilizer, Auto Focus / Auto Exposure Separation, Pro Suggest mode, Selfie Alarm, Xenon & LED flash, full HD video recording at 60 frames per second, and slow motion recording. The phone also houses a 2-MP front-facing snapper. Meanwhile, Xperia Z2’s camera flaunts the splendid 4K ultra-HD video capturing facility, bright F2.0 Sony G Lens, high-sensitivity Exmor RS sensor, BIONZ technology for mobile image-processing engine, Motion Detection, Superior Auto mode, 3x Clear Image Zoom, Timeshift video recording, SteadyShot, and other apps. It also holds a 2.2 MP front-facing shooter.

Connectivity

Both the phones offer standard connectivity options, such as, Wi-Fi, GPS, Bluetooth 4.0, NFC, Micro-SIM, and 3G. Additionally, the Xperia Z2 also provides DLNA, Wi-Fi Direct, and FM Radio.

Battery Life

Fueled by an outstanding 3200 mAh of battery, the Xperia Z2 offers greater battery life as compared to its rival which comes packed with a 2430 mAh of battery.

Price Range

There is no information on the price of Samsung Galaxy K Zoom in India. The price of Sony Xperia Z2 hovers around INR 42,000 to INR 49,000.

To make a choice between the two monster-camera smartphones is definitely a tough call. Both have their own set of enticing features as well as downsides. The final decision will depend upon the user’s brand preference. However, one thing is for sure, that both these phones can easily beat any mid-range digital camera, thus enabling users to avoid the hassles of carrying a separate camera.
