Micromax Canvas Power A96: Smartphone Launched

Micromax has launched its new Mircomax Canvas Power A96 smartphone in India at Rs 9,900.

Indian tech company, Micromax has expanded its range of Canvas smartphone series by silently introducing the new Micromax Canvas Power A96 at a price point of Rs 9,900. The Android smartphone is now being offered on sale via company’s online store with a promise of delivery in seven to ten business days.

The main highlight of the Canvas Power A96 – as the name suggests – is it’s battery. How the Indian tech company managed to squeeze in a 4,000mAh battery into a handset with a 5-inch screen is interesting and also questionable – taking into account how badly a teenager in New Delhi was hurt in a Canvas 2.2 A114’s battery explosion last month.

Coming back to specifications, the Canvas Power featuring the large 4,000mAh battery unit is said to deliver up to 5.5 hours of talk-time and up to 450 hours of standby time. The handset features dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) and runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean out of the box. It features a 5-inch TFT display with a resolution of 480 X 854 pixels. Under the hood is a 1.3 GHz MediaTek MT6582M quad-core processor with 512MB of RAM. Inbuilt storage capacity is 4GB that can be expanded to up to 32GB via micro-SD card. It sports a 5 megapixel rear camera with LED flash, while there is no word on the front-facing camera. Connectivity features include 3G, Wi-Fi, Micro-USB and Bluetooth. The device also comes with pre-loaded apps such as Games, Kingsoft, Hike, Opera Mini and M! Live.

Furthermore, it is also understood that Micromax has reduced the price of its recently launched phone, the Canvas Turbo Mini. The handset was originally introduced at Rs 14,490 will now retail for Rs 12,990. It’s interesting to note that the price cut comes right after Motorola launched its new Moto G budget smartphone, which falls into the same price bracket at Rs 12,499.

The Micromax Canvas Turbo Mini is the smaller and compact version of the company’s flagship model, Canvas Turbo. It features a 4.7-inch 720 IPS display unlike its bigger sibling that boasts of full-HD one and is powered by a 1.3GHz quad-core processor (on a MedaiTek MT6582 CHIP) and 1 GB of RAM. Camera specs consists of a 5 megapixel front facing camera and an 8 megapixel rear camera with support for 720p recording. In-built storage is 4GB that is expandable to up to 32GB via microSD card. Battery specs consists of an 1,800mAh battery. The dual-SIM handset (1 mini-SIM & 1 standard SIM), supports 3G, WiFi and Bluetooth and runs on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean out of the box.
