Pakistan forms team to probe ISI funding of politicians

Pakistan’s interior ministry has formed a committee following a directive from the Supreme Court to probe alleged funding of politicians by the country’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI)

Pakistan’s interior ministry has formed a committee following a directive from the Supreme Court to probe alleged funding of politicians by the country’s spy agency Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), a media report said on Tuesday.

The four-member probe committee, formed Monday, will be headed by Muhammad Ghalib Bandeesha, assistant director general of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). It also has three director-level officials, the Daily Times reported.

The committee is scheduled to begin its investigations Tuesday and will submit the final report to the interior ministry.

Former ISI director general Mehmood Durrani last year had told the Supreme Court that funds were distributed among politicians upon directives from Ajlal Haidar Zaidi, the then head of Aiwan-e-Sadr or the presidency cell, the daily’s report said.
