The most favourite league in India – the English Premier League is just weeks away from kick-off but the fans are already keeping themselves interested with their clubs major signings.
Right from Chelsea to Manchester United to Arsenal, every club manager has kept his chequebook busy ever since the FIFA World Cup 2014. With the Premier League going for a major overhaul, the arrival of new names will be a treat to watch. So who has arrived and from where? Let’s check out the top 5 signings so far that have made the news:
Diego Costa (From Atletico Madrid To Chelsea)
Fee – 32m pounds
In what could be a major transfer coup, Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho swooped in for Atletico Madrid hitman forward, Diego Costa for a fee of around 32m pounds. The Spanish striker was a hit for the La Liga champions last season, scoring 27 goals in the league. With his arrival at the Stamford Bridge, Chelsea can push their title challenge ahead and will also look to fight for the Champions League.
Alexis Sanchez (From Barcelona To Arsenal)
Fee – 30m pounds
Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger had implied this season could be a ‘breakthrough’ for the Gunners and the French manager did not disappoint with the arrival of Chilean forward, Alexis Sanchez. Barcelona signed Luis Suarez meant Sanchez was surplus to requirements at the Nou Camp and that paved the way for Arsene Wenger to sign the Chile forward.
Luke Shaw (From Southampton To Manchester United)
Fee – 30m pounds
It’s hardly the case when any English player will be valued for more money but Manchester United did not worry about that as they went in for Southampton’s teen prodigy, Luke Shaw. Even though he played a single game in Brazil, Shaw is pinned to be the ‘future’ of English football and what better way than to play at the ‘Theatre of Dreams’ – Old Trafford.
Romelu Lukaku (From Chelsea To Everton)
Fee – 28m pounds
After spending 3 seasons without first team football at Chelsea (out of which, 2 seasons were on loan), Belgian forward finally ended his torrid spell at the Bridge by signing for Everton football club. Romelu Lukaku was a hit for the Toffees on loan last season and manager Roberto Martinez wanted the striker to sign a permanent deal. With his arrival, Everton could also pose a serious threat to the ‘Top Four’.
Lazar Markovic (From Benefica To Liverpool)
Fee – 20m pounds
Liverpool sold off their greatest asset – Luis Suarez to Barcelona as manager Brendan Rodgers made a number of transfers including the one of 20-year Serbian, Lazar Markovic. The winger signed from Benefica, has the pace and penetration that can deflate the opposition defence quite easily. The winger has already created an impression on his teammates and would be hoping to do so, on the Premier League as well.
These 5 major signings from the English summer, could well and truly light up the stage at the Premier League. Basically a goal threat, these marquee signings can add star value as well as crunch moments for their respective clubs.
