World Cup heavyweights – Germany and Portugal gear up for a ‘big clash’ in Salvador on Monday as the two European giants go head to head in an important group tie. Even with star players in both the sides, our focus has shifted to German Mesut Ozil and Portuguese superstar, Cristiano Ronaldo. Here’s our prediction on why we think that these two players can shine on the big stage:
Cristiano Ronaldo –
The Real Madrid star was a doubt starter for the big game against Germany after suffering a niggling muscle injury in the pre-season. Portugal’s star man was diagnosed with tendinitis in his left knee shortly before the World Cup but the former has been given the green signal to lead his nation out onto the World Cup. Much has been expected of him to deliver in the World Cup and with the opposition that includes the Germans, Ronald’s goals could have a ‘special’ meaning albeit he scores.
Mesut Ozil –
Even before the World Cup has started, talks of a critical performance from Arsenal midfilder Mesut Ozil has plagued the German star. His Premier League performance was satisfactory and during the international friendlies, Ozil hardly impressed. As the World Cup campaign kicks-off, the coming games could be ‘make or break’ situation for Ozil. The likes of Mario Goetze and Toni Kroos could grab the opportunity if Ozil fails to deliver success.
