Recipe of the day: Quick dinner with suji cheela

A light, mildly flavoured disk of rava, cooked with onions, tomatoes and green chillies.

A light, mildly flavoured disk of rava, cooked with onions, tomatoes and green chillies.

Prep time: 10 minutes
Cooking time: 10 minutes
Serves: Two

What you need:

1 small cup of suji (rava)
½ small cup besan
1 tsp red chilli powder,
2 onions, finely chopped
1 big tomato, finely chopped
1 green chilli, finely chopped
½ tsp turmeric powder
Salt to taste
A pinch of hing (asafoetida)
Oil for cooking

How to make:

  1. In a large bowl, add suji and besan, and pour some water. Mix well to form a loose batter.
  2. Add onions, tomatoes, green chilli, red chilli powder, turmeric powder, hing and salt. Combine well with the suji mix.
  3. Heat oil in a pan and make a disk out of the batter on it. When the bubbles start developing on the upper side and it is slightly cooked from below, turn it upside down.
  4. Keep turning both the sides until it’s cooked properly. Serve hot with coriander chutney or ketchup. Repeat with the remaining batter.
