India Celebrates #NationalEducationDay: A Tribute To The Late Maulana Abul Kalam Azad

The National Education Day has been celebrated in India since the year 2008. It is celebrated to commemorate the anniversary of a great freedom fighter, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.

While the country saw a number of changes in the Union cabinet Ministry today, it also saw the essence of education through the celebrations of #NationalEducationDay.

The National Education Day has been celebrated in India since the year 2008. It is celebrated to commemorate the anniversary of a great freedom fighter, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad, who was also an eminent educationist and the first education minister of India.

Maulana Abul Kalam Azad is remembered till date for his great contributions in the education sector in India. The Maulana Azad Medical College in Delhi, Maulana Azad University in Hyderabad, Maulana Azad College in Hyderabad, etc. are examples of how much does the education industry in India remembers him.

He was the first minister to introduce free primary education in India. Apart from that he also introduced modern institutions of higher education thus promoting national education. Today’s celebrated institution and schemes were also his introductions. The IITs idea and the foundation of the UGC were started by him to promote the need of higher education.

On this occasion, the President of India Shri Pranab Mukherjee, accompanied by the HRD Minister Smriti  Irani, inaugurated the 40th Jawaharlal Nehru National Science, Mathematics and Environment Exhibition, at Delhi. While a number of children and youth participated in the exhibition, the objective of which is the development of scientific temper in the society and enhance learning of mathematical capabilities in the children. Approximately 400 children from across the country participated in the exhibition.

Apart from the exhibition event, the UGC (University Grants Commission) planned to organize a lecture on this occasion to commemorate the anniversary of Maulana Abul Kalam Azad.
