Tarun Tejpal CCTV Footage: How Did Anurag Kashyap Get Access To It?

Famous filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s recent comment on the Tarun Tejpal case is inviting a lot of flak from people. He wrote on Facebook, ‘œAnd I have seen the CCTV footage too and none of what the girl says about Tarun Tejpal is true.’

Famous filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s recent comment on the Tarun Tejpal case is inviting a lot of flak from people.

He wrote on Facebook, “And I have seen the CCTV footage too and none of what the girl says about Tarun Tejpal is true.”

The virtual world bristled with rage as Kashyap made such an insensitive remark without thinking twice. Many activists have responded to Kashyap’s remark by saying that not every girl yells ‘bachao bachao’ after she is physically harassed by someone. And of course they are making a valid point here. It’s the most ridiculous thing to imply that the girl doesn’t look raped because it doesn’t reflect in her body language and hence it’s wrong to accuse the rapist in question.

Of course Kashyap’s comment has created quite a furore out there, but the one question gnawing away at the minds of people who are following the story is how Anurag got access to the CCTV footage in the first place. Isn’t the footage only meant for the defence and the prosecution and a handful of senior authorities…how does a Bollwyood celeb come into the picture and gets to lay his hands on such critical evidence?

Everyone wants to know what has Kashyap done to get an exclusive right to view the footage? Until we get the answers, one thing’s for sure the director has sort of dug his own sweet grave by commenting on such a serious issue in such a blasé tone. There are people on social networking sites who are generously slinging mud on the filmmaker by calling him pretentious – claiming that the man puts on a façade when he incorporates ‘women empowerment’ messages in his movies.

Tejpal, the Tehelka editor, was accused of sexually abusing a junior colleague at a conference in Goa last year. The trial is set to begin in the Panaji fast track court.

Kashyap defending Tejpal – what do you think, is his behaviour justifiable or he is being plain ridiculous and biased?
