Will Sachin hang up his boots?

Chief selector Sandip Patil denied media reports that he had spoken to Sachin Tendulkar regarding his future.

On Wednesday, India’s chief cricket selector Sandip Patil denied media reports that he had spoken to iconic batsman Sachin Tendulkar regarding his future after the batting great’s landmark 200th Test match against the West Indies slated for November. Quashing all the rumours, he said, “I haven’t met Sachin in the past 10 months. All the news reports on Tendulkar are baseless. Why should I speak or discuss anything related to his 200th Test or his retirement.”

So should SRT come out in the open regarding his future? In the name of the great batsman, its been a battle of the grounds as both the Eden Gardens and the Wankhede have been fighting over who shall host that ‘200th’ game. It was also rumoured that Tendulkar will quit the game after completing 200 tests for India. But replying to a TV channel he said, “No reactions now…will take it match-by-match.”

Till now, we haven’t got a clue yet whether the great batsman will hang up his boots or not. Tendulkar has always kept his fans guessing on his retirement and whether the West Indies series will be his last is therefore not clear.

With too many people voicing their opinion, shouldn’t Tendulkar himself come forward and SPEKE his mind? Why doesn’t he take cues from our greats Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman who found the time was right and announced their plans to the world. Yes, we know that Sachin loves the game but with the world talking only about his retirement plans, is it not time for Sachin to shut them up!

Tendulkar’s Test form has been on a decline off late. He hasn’t scored a century in his last 38 Test innings, since the 146 at Newlands, Cape Town in January 2011. The closest he came was in this year’s Australia series when he scored 81 in the 1st test at Chennai.

Let’s hope the ‘Master Blaster’ silences the critics with his bat and not his mouth!
