Why Zaheer Khan should make a comeback

Forgotten Indian pacer Zaheer Khan is busy serving his Mumbai team in the Ranji trophy but has done enough to win back the selectors’ hearts.

Forgotten Indian pacer Zaheer Khan is busy serving his Mumbai team in the Ranji trophy but has done enough to win back the selectors’ hearts. Zaheer who has played 88 Tests and picked up 295 wickets, has many reasons to celebrate! Here’s why:

Replace Ishant Sharma, ASAP!

Delhi pacer Ishant Sharma, who has been on the receiving end off late, will know his time is up. If his ODI form is so poor, just think what will happen in the Tests! South Africa will prove to be a difficult place to go and a senior head like Zaheer will be worth having in the team.

No senior member

With Sachin Tendulkar retiring after his 200th Test in Mumbai, Dhoni and co. will not have any senior member when they head off to South Africa. Besides Dhoni himself, the skipper could do with the services of the 30-year-old seamer who can provide Team India with vital tips.

Graeme Smith will be a worried man

Who better than Graeme Smith to know Zaheer Khan! During the 2006 tour, Zak proved to be a nightmare for Smith, scalped him 4 out 5 times in the ODI matches. If Zaheer is on board, Smith has every right to fear again!

Other bowlers failing around him

The likes of Bhuvenshwar Kumar, Vinay Kumar and Ishant Sharma have failed to impress in the on-going ODI series against Australia. The clear indication is, South Africa will go all out against the hapless Indian attack. With Zaheer around, may be the likes of Bhuvneshwar Kumar and co. could  improve too!
