Can Cheteshwar Pujara Be A ‘Success’ In ODIs?

There were questions raised about his batting in overseas conditions but Cheteshwar Pujara put all those doubts to rest as he hammered a brilliant century (153) in the 1st Test against South Africa at Johannesburg.

There were questions raised about his batting in overseas conditions but Cheteshwar Pujara put all those doubts to rest #LikeABoss, as he hammered a brilliant century (153) in the 1st Test against South Africa at Johannesburg. After enough being said, Pujara today is India’s top Test batsman uptill now and with tours to New Zealand and England on the horizon, it looks like that the Rajkot-born will be at his level best too. So, the surprise is not having the best ‘Test’ batsman in the squad, especially after the Indian cricket team is doing well in ODIs. Pujara, who donned the Blue colours in the Zimbabwe series last, is yet to play a role in MS Dhoni’s number 1 team. We are wondering what has been falling short for Pujara?

“I do like to play the one-day format. Especially with the 2015 World Cup coming up, I hope I get a chance to play in that team. As a cricketer, everybody dreams to play the World Cup for Team India,” Pujara was quoted on Star Sports show Star Power. He further adds, “When I was playing one of the Ranji games, India won the 2011 World Cup and we all were following the game. We felt really proud on India winning the World Cup,” he said.

Pujara admits that some aspects of his game needs to be worked out on. He has confessed, “When you have the opportunity of serving the country and be part of the team it will be a different feeling. And there are a few things I am working to be part of the one-day team.”

The Indian ODI team is loaded with stars that even the likes of Yuvraj Singh have to sit out. When Indian ODI team took on South Africa, there were a lot callous shots and runs gifted by bowlers as pleasantry. And, what Indian team requires is a player like Pujara in its ODI ranks; a persona that can calm the process down and slowly build on the innings.

For the time being, Pujara’s main focus must be taking the Test team to its highest pinnacle and if he is involved in the success, glories will come!
