With the Delhi University admission process for the year 2014-15 flagging off today, we get to see what exactly are the students going through.

The speculations about the much-debated FYUP (Four Year Undergraduate Program) being revoked are extensive, yet DU is all set to kick start the admission process for undergraduate seats in 65 colleges all over the city.

As the last date to apply is scheduled to be during the mid of June, students who have cleared their intermediate can apply for any of the courses the university offers, including FYUP. The FYUP program launched last year, listed in one of the most controversial news in the education sector.

The new amendment stated that students taking admission in DU will enter a four-year honours degree, with an option to leave at the end of two or three years, choosing which they would be given a Diploma or a Bachelor’s degree without honours, respectively. The newly appointed HRD minister Smriti Irani assured to look into the matter, when a delegation of students and teachers from DU, submitted a written note, demanding the scraping of FYUP from the system. However, the dean of student’ welfare has something else to say- “This is the second time students are seeking admissions under FYUP. We have received positive response from the previous batch and even this time several students have shown keen interest in it.”

In a bid to boost students’ chances of bagging a job post their graduation, few new courses have been incorporated in the curriculum. Under a MoU agreement between NSDC (National Skills Development Corporation) and Delhi University, approximately sixty thousand students of the university will be allowed to study additional courses that will accelerate their chances of getting a job. Students can take up as many courses as they wish to, under the new scheme. The fee, per semester for these courses is expected to be Rs 2,500, excluding the fee a student is has to pay for the general stream of study they are taking up.

Apart from this, the University has also signed a MoU with the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises, abiding which, small incubator centres would be put up in colleges for undergraduate students to expand their practical knowledge. The goverment will also fund those ideas which they think is going to bring a change.

The tenth or the final cut off list will be announced on July 21st. The admission forms are priced at Rs 100 for general category and Rs 50 for SC/ST category of students.
