A Guide For Those Who Are All Set To Embark On The Journey Of College Life

Embarking on a new journey, going to this place called hostel and university is a wonderful experience. We share a few things you might want to keep in mind as you start your first year at college.

Another year has swung by. It is that period of the year when you see the all hopeful and innocent faces leave their homes to start their life in college. I remember the day I took admission in graduation. Because I had never left home without someone being by my side, I was all anxious about my college life. Though I knew few faces in the college (as seniors and batch mates from school),  my anxiety did not seem to fade. But a few days of regular classes and I knew, that there’s not a single one present here, who has a different opinion about college life, than I do.

Embarking on a new journey, going to this place called hostel and university is a wonderful experience. However, you need to prepare yourself according to your university, as proper preparation facilitates a smoother settling in. We share a few things you might want to keep in mind as you start your first year at college. Read on.

Necessities

The first question that often pops your mind, post the excitement of getting through your desired campus, is what to take with you and what to leave behind. To begin with, no university or institute encourages informal wear during the college hours. Pack up your casuals and your normal day to day schedule clothes that are good enough in number, so as to replace your school uniform.

Other than that you may want to keep a pair or two of sweaters (irrespective of which part of the country you’re going to), bed linens and the medicines that you may require. Also, do not forget to take with you some ethnic clothing and formal suit as there is no college that does not have an ethnic day celebration.  Because you will be given a hostel room which will definitely not be as big as your room back home, pack only things that are necessary and you can’t do without.

Familiarize

Talking on a general note, first years take quite some time to delve into normal college life. Once you’ve taken admission and completed all the formalities, take a tour of the college campus with your parents, guardian or friends. Familiarize yourself with the routes and the in-campus or nearby store that provides all of that stuff you require to survive the college.

It is normal to be homesick

There’s nothing wrong with you if all you can think about is home, during your first few months of stay. Moving away from family where you were pampered and cared for, you’re bound to feel terrible. Just for your information, everybody you see round you, is in the same boat. Moreover, the feeling is going to last only for a while. Once you familiarize yourself with things, your life would be as normal as it was.

Student’s discount

As your college is a known landmark in the town or city, there may be a chance that retailers or shops nearby provide a student’s discount for people from your college. So don’t forget to avail student’s discount or freebies provided by any store, and carry your identity card if you go out of campus.

Your life during first year of college is going to be the best, as it teaches you to survive independently and is similar to a roller coaster ride, when you leave home after HSC. So, make mistakes, grip learning and remember, this is going to be the best memory you’ll have, ever in your life.
