January 7th saw an immense defeat of fearless portrayal of truth with the officers of Charlie Hebdo, a satirical French weekly publication being attacked by masked gunmen for posting cartoons in their magazine that questioned some of Islam’s dubious beliefs and practices.

Though this was not the first attack, yet it was successful in shattering the whole spirit of the organization. We are an incredibly young nation. The youth of our nation are supposed to be the pioneers of tomorrow. In fact, the politics in our country, over a period of time, has become youth centric. The whole debate regarding upcoming general election is about how to woo youth of the country.

But the disillusionment of youth about politics remains the same. They do not go deep into any of the matter. They consider protests, candle light vigils and dharnas a form of politics. No doubt they are a part of the democratic set-up but slogan shouting is not politics.

Many of them did not even vote till recently. Thanks to the voting campaigns by the Election Commission, assembly elections in various states last year saw a good voter turnout from among youth.

But where is the real participation?

None of the young minds of our country consider politics as a viable career option. They do not even care what is happening in politics of the country. They read just the headlines or catch only highlights of a news. They do not even care who is their leader or minister for that matter.

Thanks to Aam Aadmi Party, the country saw a surge of youth movement in India. But it is the same till date – protests, vigils and dharnas. Despite AAP’s spectacular debut in Delhi elections and despite it forming the government, the idea of politics and the knowledge of governance has not seeped into them. It was evident during the recent horrible actions AAP and its leaders carried out. Also, they reek of ignorance and arrogance which can be a possible poison for their fall.

But this video here shows that the debate is much smaller. The youth of the country are ignorant about the simple knowledge of their country. These are not some youth from remote villages deprived of education and exposure, but they are from metropolitan cities like Delhi and Mumbai.

With this attitude, the politicians, who we blame to play us all the time, will continue to do so. Time is to stand up and get our hands dirty. Understand politics of our country and understand our duty. For we have to run this country tomorrow.

The Aam Aadmi Party believes in the power of the social media and the party has used it to its own advantage. Just a day ago, AAP uploaded seven videos on Youtube explaining why the party leadership decided to form a minority government in Delhi. But while doing so, they spun a blatant lie in their video.

Using diagrams to depict the size of the three parties in assembly elections was perhaps a bad idea.

In the video, AAP depicts itself as the largest party via the diagram, BJP is depicted smaller than AAP and Congress the smallest in the video. If we remember the assembly election results, BJP won 32 seats, AAP 28 and Congress 8.

This gives a clear mandate to the BJP which, in the 70 member assembly, was short to majority by just three seats. But it seems AAP has forgotten the exact number and the mandate that Delhi people gave in its enthusiasm to form the government.

It may be an innocent mistake by overzealous volunteers at the AAP office, or it may bea blatant lie being shoved down the popular mindset unnoticed. If the former is correct, AAP should nonetheless remove all the seven videos and uploaded amended ones.

In the case they are onto political conniving, well, the Delhi janata just got cheated.

MLA of one of the biggest assembly seats in Delhi, Anil Choudhary has just completed five years in his office. He is young, fresh from college politics and he is educated – this is what appeals to the people of Patparganj, his assembly seat.

Anil won by a mere 600 vote margin from his rival Nakul Bhardwaj of BJP last time. This time he is in for a triangular competition as AAP’s Manish Sisodia is also in the run. From his hectic schedule of office work coupled with campaigning for the election, Anil gave us few minutes by the side of a public meeting.

Anil says that the real fight is again between him and Nakul and claims that AAP does not even have a chance to stand. He alleges that AAP leaders are misusing their educational qualifications for misleading the public. He also says that the BJP does not know the real issue of the area.

With the high hopes of winning the election, Anil says that he has faith in the work that he has done for his assembly area.

A journalist who turned activist for getting people Right to Information is now a politician. Mr. Sisodia is a part of the nascent Aam Aadmi Party and trying to sweep the corrupts with his ‘broom’ shoulder to shoulder with leader Arvind Kejriwal.

Recently AAP has been in number of controversies and the frustration was large written on Mr. Sisodia’s face. He took an aggressive defence position during the interview in which he had come two hours late. While he did not deny many allegations over their patron Anna Hazare, he did not accept them too in front of the camera.

With the recent sting operation controversy in place, he strongly opposed editing of footage which may change the entire meaning of an answer and denied that his party members did any wrong.

When asked about the kind of message his party was sending among youth by endorsing such people who openly used cuss words for their leader he said that “those people (Rajiv Laxman and Vishal Dhadlani) are youth icon in their own way and the youth likes them because of what they do”. He also said that he did not find any problem with Vishal singing a song which included a slang in his party’s “Jeet ki Goonj” concert.

He has a website and social media presence which he calls a very powerful tool in democracy. From his very busy schedule he carved few minutes so that the youth of this country can know their leader.
