So you have mastered the basics of biking, learned about all the safety precautions, and stocked up on all the required safety gears; and now is the time to buy your first motorcycle. Isn’t it?

We have compiled some points to help you in making the right decision! Take a read, folks.

Know your ability:

One very common mistake that a newbie makes is to go for a bike with far more performance than he can actually handle. Our advice: Stay away from anything that has an engine larger than 600 cc; you will become a better rider when you learn the art of riding on a slow bike. And the more skilled you become in riding, better you will be in a position to appreciate a faster bike.

Be clear about what you want:

Make sure you know exactly why you need a bike. Where will you be riding it; will it be on an empty road or on a road that remains congested with traffic. Will you be travelling on it regularly, or will it be a weekend affair? If you are not going to ride on it regularly, you might be more tolerant towards a sexy bike that is not comfortable enough. But for regular riders, comfort is the key.

Learn about the various options:

There are several options that you can consider before you buy a motorcycle. Today bikes have become a lot more specialized. You must have a good idea about what exactly you want from a bike. Once you are clear on that, there is no dearth of options.

Choose a bike that complements your body:

Well, this is an important point to consider. Buy a bike according to your body size! If you are thin and lanky, go for a lighter bike. And if you have a good physique, a bullet might not be a bad idea!

New vs. Used:

There are a number of points associated with used and new bikes; and no one can single out an option and say it to be right. The choice is entirely personal and depends on individual’s choice and preferences. But yes, new bikes come with reliability and trust of a warranty. However, used bikes can be a great option for beginners because you won’t be too worried about damaging it because it is already not in a perfect shape.

Consider your budget:

Before you commit to buy a motorcycle, remember to estimate all the added expenses associated with the same. When choosing a bike, ensure to check all the available insurance rates with multiple carriers and select the plan that suits your budget the most.

Purchasing you first bike is always exciting; but make sure you don’t get carried away with the heat of the moment. Make sure you buy a bike that suits your needs in all respect – finance, comfort and usage.

….yet, make sure you finally buy a bike that will make you happy:

People buy bikes out of passion. In spite of the fact that there are some practical things to consider, but ultimately you should go with the one that makes you feel happy. Buy a bike that excites you, because that is what matters at the end.
