Vidya Balan, Paresh Rawal, Kamal Haasan And Santosh Sivan Receive Padma Shri Award!

It’s a matter of pride for the Indian film industry that some of the most deserving stars have been chosen by the government as the Padma Shri award recipients.

It’s a matter of pride for the Indian film industry that some of the most deserving stars have been chosen by the government as the Padma Shri award recipients.

Vidya Balan: The actor started her career with Hum Paanch, a television show on Zee. Who thought that she will get off to such a flying start? She won the National Award in 2012 and looks like it only gets better as a she gets conferred with the third highest civilian honour. This reminds me of an anecdote VB shared in an interview a long back. She had gone for an audition of a film and the makers refused her point blank calling her ugly. Well, it definitely requires great courage and determination to turn a deaf ear to all that criticism and march ahead to pursue your dreams. We will get to see Balan in Shaadi Ke Side Effects this year. After the serious Kahaani and The Dirty Picture, it would be a refreshing change to see the talented babe in a light-hearted film. What can I say, this is just the beginning Ms Balan, there are many more awards and accolades in store!

Paresh Rawal: The senior actor has over the years entertained us with his flawless performances. But you hardly see him attending any award functions, let alone winning them. He has been one of those who has been giving his best shot in every film, silently and steadily. It’s actors like him who don’t prefer surrounding themselves with unnecessary hype and hoopla. He was recently seen in Oh my God opposite Akshay Kumar, in which he played the protagonist. He pulled off the film brilliantly as Kanjibhai. With actors like Paresh Rawal in a film, you don’t need item numbers, bikini clad heroines and a beefy stud to rake in the moolah; a good story and a talented director does the trick. Padma Shri for the actor, well-deserved I say!

Kamal Haasan: The actor is all set to enthrall the audience with Vishwaroopam 2. Haasan recently said in an interview that he doesn’t deserve the Padma Shri. He joked that he has always been a slow person, and is still trying to achieve bigger things in life. Kamal is kicking a@# even at 59, which speaks volumes about his energy and enthusiasm. We would love to see the actor do more Hindi films. What say readers?

Santosh Sivan: From making films look visually beautiful as a cinematographer to donning the hat of a director, Sivan has endowed the industry and the audience with some really aesthetic work. Using his knowledge on films and cinematography, the filmmaker directed films like Urumi, Asoka, The Terrorist et al which won great critical acclaim and global recognition. He thanked the students of FTII (Pune) for proposing his name for the award. Hearty congratulations to the filmmaker.
