Sanjay Dutt, Jail, Parole: Why Is Bollywood Glorifying Him?

Sanjay Dutt’s wife Manyata is keen on making a film on her husband’s difficult journey.

If things go as per the plan, the movie will be produced by Sanjay Dutt productions. Sanjay Dutt and Manyata have been thinking about this project for quite a while now and want Ranbir Kapoor to play the lead. The couple thinks that the Barfi! actor will do absolute justice to the role.

Rajkumar Hirani has been approached to direct the film.

Although the director gave his nod to the project, but he won’t begin with the work anytime soon since he already has his plate full with Peekay. And it doesn’t come as a surprise that Hirani is the chosen filmmaker here. Dutt’s Bollywood career would have gone to the dogs if Munnabhai didn’t happen and he can only thank Hirani for that. So while Ranbir and Rajkumar are die-hard Dutt fans and have already agreed to help portray the actor’s ordeal on screen, I really wonder if making a movie on Dutt is worth the time and effort.

The actor is currently serving the remainder of his five year imprisonment at Yerwada jail. Involved in the 1993 Mumbai bomb blasts, Dutt’s life has been quite a roller coaster ride. And while he has many admirers and friends in B-town, it really comes as a shock to discover that the ‘guy’ who’s had a hand in communal riots has so many supporters in the filmi world, who are glorifying him by making a movie on his life.

Well, I am sure Dutt has had to walk on undulating roads, and go through a lot of pain and hardships, but then does he really deserve to be worshipped and hailed as a hero?

The actor was granted a parole extension by the government so that he could take care of his wife Manyata Dutt who hasn’t been keeping well for quite some time. While celebrity inmates are being given special treatment, Bollywood is busy with the idea of making movies on criminals who get away scot free…

I will be the first one to boycott this film if it gets made of course, what about you?
