No matter how carefree we are while expressing our thoughts, there are things that we find too awkward to divulge.

Maybe reacting in a certain way or making similar observations is in our nature. Well, why dwell on the reasons while we can enjoy agreeing to some traits, things we all do but never admit, that we all share irrespective of caste, creed or sex.

So, here’s a shagun of ikkees (21) antics that’ll make you giggle at yourself, and also gratified for not being the only one doing so!

Looking lost, in deep thoughts, while the only thing in your mind is ‘what to eat for lunch’; so, what are you gonna have today?

Cancelling plans saying you are busy while the truth is you’d rather laze around; so much just for some ‘me’ time!

Scanning around at 360 degree in a public place to ensure that the nearest person is far enough to not hear you fart, and then letting go :p ; God forbid your scanning is faulty!

Rushing to restrooms just to pick your nose; it is like nature’s call… when you have to, you better do!

Looking in the mirror and enacting a song, a dialogue, or trying some weird expression; filmo ne hi bigada hai humein. 😛

Repeating the same undergarments consecutively; eww! That’s plain unhygienic. Disgusting people are we!

Acting naïve to avoid awkward moments; so, why have you not replied to that email from five days ago? Simple… you were too busy to go through all the emails, so maybe you skipped it!

Creating conversations in your head; they’d say that, so I’ll clearly tell them this… only if real-time conversations were so simple and precise!

Binging on fast food, cold drinks, chips, etc. in the comfort of your own company; Dear large pizza and coke, I am alone, so you two are no more.

Staying in minimal clothes while alone in house; the bliss we seldom enjoy. And just a doorbell is all that’ll hamper this luxury.

Controlling your breath to hold your stomach in to look thinner; the moment an attractive person passes by, our tummy instantly tries to hide the tires.

Checking out social media’s and messaging app’s statuses and profiles of people; the discussions that follow with our besties are worth the effort.

Peeing while taking bath; well, it’s the affect of water, maybe!

Acting you missed out seeing someone while you deliberately avoided them; the moment we see a not-so-interesting acquaintance, we are on too-busy-in-phone-to-notice mode.

Nodding and smiling to someone’s rants while you don’t give a damn about what they’re saying; thinking you deserve the national nuisance award

Spitting while talking; shit happens, the people, conversing with you, who act like they didn’t notice are God sent.

Crying or feeling pumped up after watching videos online; happens all the time, bro!

Typing long posts on facebook. And not posting them; it’s okay to show your emotions or is it?

Jumping a bit off your seat while watching climaxes in horror movies; it’s like they’ll kills us, so we just can’t help it!

Being scared of breaking social conventions; no matter how good we think our idea is, we’ll never go ahead with it lest we should become laughing stock!

Daydreaming about your perfect future scenarios; as they say, if you can dream it, you can achieve it.

Well, it definitely is a respite of a kind to know that we are not alone indulging in these (some silly, some illogical, some habitual and some inadvertent but all spot on) activities.

Had a good time reading? Go ahead and share it, for sharing a few laughs with friends is one of the best things to admit.

The problem with them is that they are not bad at heart, or so we’d like to assume (pun intended), but they make you wanna puke in response to their non-sense traits.

What’s even more irritating is that most of them are unintentionally a headache. Even the upfront ones amongst us, their victims, find it difficult to point out it to them.

But stress no more as help’s here to rescue you from the gregariously irritating person.

1) Just Smile.

When they eagerly await your response to their rants, try and bring your lips to smile from ear to ear. If they irritate you with ‘whys’ and ‘whats’, repeat. Don’t say anything. Basically, it is your turn to irritate them.

This way when they are on with their stupidities, you’ll be busy thinking about your pre-planned reaction, which will make you grin and automatically shift focus from them.

2) React Naturally.

Enough with the etiquette and patience… react the way your polite self resists you from, at least once. Like if someone is bragging about something new, instead of nodding politely, startle them by saying, “so?”

You’ll feel so light immediately. Yes, it sounds rude but isn’t continuing to irritate someone without trying to judge their interest is equally so!

3) Avoid Them.

Continue doing what you were doing without even noticing them. This works very well with attention seekers. If they’ll stop getting attention from you. They’ll go to find another prey.

If avoiding them is not possible, you can try and make some expressions, like raising an eyebrow, to indicate that what they are up to is not interesting at all.

4) Be Honest.

When all the antics get to your head, commit to yourself about letting them know. But not rudely, if you really want them to stop irritating you. Correctly choosing the words and being assertive, clearly tell them what bothers you.

Don’t negate this suggestion on the pretext of they won’t understand. You can’t tell till you don’t try.

5) Chill Out.

Plan an evening out with your good friends and blurt out about the nuisance in your life till you feel better. You’re sure to get some interestingly funny solutions. If even you don’t, you can still have a good laugh.

After such a session, you’ll automatically start thing about the laughs you shared with your friends the moment the same person starts irritating you in the same way.

6) Enjoy It.

Because, variety, my dear, is the spice of life. No matter what some people just can’t stop driving you up the wall as it’s in their nature. In such cases, it is best to observe them and salute God for creating such maddening characters.

Maybe you’ll start thanking or appreciating the irritant being for entertaining you every once in a while!

7) Shoot Them.

Their Irritating behavior, that is, with a camera phone or something (What were you thinking, do we look like the violent kind? But well, the choice is always yours! :P) And show the video to them, pointing out why exactly are they close or a tough competition to KRK.

If nothing else seems to work, introspect. And maybe hug them for their uniqueness while telling them, “I wish someday you get to meet a person like you, (muttering) for that’s the only way you’ll realise how effortlessly you kill my brain.”

But seriously, that person is not a bad human being after all.

Yes? Imagine you kissing them! 😛

Khamoshian Gungunane Lagi – Dil Se

This song spells the old-world charm. The lyrics, the music, the mood… everything about this song is magical. In fact I’d suggest this song as an alternative to the commonly-played tracks when a bride enters the wedding venue.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HPIgvzaL5Pw

Zara Zara Behkta Hai – Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein

Having a sensuous voice, utterly romantic music and lyrics that subconsciously embrace you, this song is sure to make you wanna go all mushy. Play this song in the car while coming back from a date night to turn the heat up.

Chupke Se – Sathiya

Yet another beautiful song having gripping lyrics that will make you cuddle your beloved there and then. Try playing this light track just before bed to set the mood just right.

O Yaara Rab Rus Jaan De – Socha Na tha

If you have heard this song even once, you must have fallen in love with it. Whenever anything is bothering you as a couple, play this song and let it assure you that as long as you are sure of the feelings for each other, you need not worry.

Nahi Saamne Alag Baat Hai – Taal

The romance that drizzling rain stirs up in the air is what this lovely track grips you with! Couples in a long distance relationship will particularly like this number.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tEHp5mfOVAw

Tere Bin Saanu Sohneya – Delhi Heights

Other than the expressive music and voice in this track, it is the lyrics that make this song so beautiful. Go ahead and download the lyrics if you are unable to understand them; the effort will be worth it.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XQtzKbHO2nw

Janeman – Radio

So beautifully composed, this track is a must in your romantic playlist. The guy affectionately calling his beloved jaaneman and the ladylove responding with equal affection… this one’s sure to melt anyone’s heart.

Moh Moh Ke Dhaage – Dum Laga ke Haisha

On days you want to indulge in some day dreaming, plug in your earphones and listen to this one in your office. Not only will you feel refreshed listening to soulful number, you’ll feel lucky to know the feeling of love.

Baatein Kuch Ankaheen Si – Life In A Metro

You must listen to this song if you are at the dating level, or you are feeling drawn to someone. This song will make you blush, smile and twinkle even when you are all alone. Better still, play this song for your eye-candy and see how they react to the lyrics.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kVj-uVOanmk

Tu Hi Haqeeqat Khwab Tu – Tum Mile

The lyrics of the song are so relatable for madly-in-love couples. This track must be on your playlist if you two have planned to go on a long drive. The high energy song is all positive and happy.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TfQuOQMvH7k

If you are infected by bollywood’s bug of romance, also do listen to Ache Lagte Ho (Kuch Na Kaho), I Love You (Bodyguard), Shukran Allah (Kurbaan), Maahi Ve (Highway), O Saathi Re (Omkaara), Jeena Jeena (Badlapur) and Tum Hi Ho (Tum Hi Ho).

Happy falling in love!

However, irrespective of how well thought and researched any legal convention is, at times laws and social conventions might feel like just a burden or rather an imposition.

This is not to say, we need to do away with law-making and lawful societies altogether, but rather to instill or probably restore the thought that what feels right in your heart, mind and soul shouldn’t need legal nod of yes!

Same-sex Relationships:

Illogical norms in the society are just enough to kill the souls and happiness of homosexuals every day. So, at least the laws should be in their favour, to legally protect them from people with sickening mentality.

Age Parameters:

If you are a man in India, you can vote from 18 years onwards, get married after you turn 21 but you can indulge in alcohol consumption only after you turn 25. Does. Not. Make. Sense. And same goes for you if you are a woman, except you are deemed fit for tying the knot two years before your male counterparts!

Reservations:

The only cases where reservation is justified are the ones that guarantee opportunity to talent, skill and aptitude. It’s heartbreaking to see undeserving ‘reserved for’ people conveniently getting ahead on professional or academic front while the deserving ‘general’ counterparts figure ways to do the same.

Protests:

Though there is no act that dismisses ‘peaceful gathering of people without arms to express protest over anything’, yet often such groups are targeted upon by ruling politicians in the name of ‘threat to social harmony’.

Prostitution:

Sex workers have no identity, not by their choice but by law. Their lives, already filled with innumerous social stigmas, are devoid of any legal protection, more or less. Their profession often comes in the way if they try to claim even the most basic human rights.

Countless Taxes:

If you go out to dine, your restaurant bill will comprise not only the bill for the food you ordered but also VAT, Service Tax and often Service Charge. This is just one example of different kind of taxes that are levied on a regular basis on the citizens. The list of taxes is long, and we would find it justifiable only if the money, taken from us, reflected in the country’s development and not the luxuries of politicians.

Many other laws related to adultery, divorce, powers of security groups, etc, are equally illogical and suppressing. The problem is not just with the laws, that are visibly outdated, but also with the ones that are so unclear that they are often twisted and wrongly used. Adding to them are the hate-worthy social conventions in our largely patriarchal society that curbs people’s right to just be.

India, our motherland, is an independent country but the sad legal conventions do not let us to feel so. Untill we do away with them, we won’t be truly free.

Well, what’s not to love about Hum Aapke Hain Koun? Nothing, I say!

We’ve grown up watching this movie over and over again on TV, and fans like me know exactly on which channel to expect it, specially on Sundays (pun intended). Infact, for many of us it was the first movie we watched in the theatre. Hum Aapke Hain Koun will always hold a special place in our hearts because…

It beautifully captured the budding romances in weddings-

All thanks to Hum Aapke Hain Koun, many a devar go deewana on our didi’s wedding, hoping they’ll find their ‘Nisha’ in us. Well, that’s only for us to judge how close or not are they to the cute ‘Prem’, we love so much.

It gave us beautiful songs, perfect for so many rituals-

I strongly feel Hum Aapke Hain Koun is one big reason of jutta-chupayi rasam being highly anticipated and one of the most glamorous ones. Come on, don’t try saying you didn’t think of jutte do paise lo song when you were in a similar situation! Then, there’s wah wah Ram ji for engagement, sajan ghar mai chali for vidayi, and many more.

We loved when Prem said “Nisha ji”-

Aap bhi sochti hongi kaisa pagal aadmi h… pehle meri painting ka fan tha, fir singing aur dancing ka, ab cooking ka bhi! Boyfriends and husbands, take cues… ladies drool over men who compliment and are respectful.

It kickstarted fashion in weddings-

Till date, there has been no such saree blouse that became as popular as Nisha’s backless one. Come to think of it, not just Nisha’s but every lady character’s outfits were just exquisite. Not to forget the lovely accesories and hairstyles, they wore!

We love big families, big houses, and big weddings-

Playing antakshari with all the uncles and aunties, matching steps with each other in weddings, nupitals spreading across days… we love it all! We might not say it out loud, but the movie’s characters summed up the idea of a perfect family for us.

Salman Khan. And Madhuri Dixit.

Salman Khan- This man has got generations of women go crazy after him. Why? How? Its a long list but cutting it short, we eternally love him. Madhuri Dixit- Beauty, expressions, moves–the lady has got it all.

Tears rolled down our cheeks when jijji died-

That’s the only part we hate about the movie. How could ever-so-charming and gorgeous lady, the only one who knew about Prem and Nisha’s love story, die! God, you are so unfair! Um… thank God it’s just a movie.

The list can go on and on, and so does our love for the movie.

Maybe the movie is the culprit behind many of us being such hopeless romantics. Maybe the movie ignited our endless love for Salman and Madhuri. Maybe the movie subconsciously pushes us to make sure we look perfect in weddings… after all, who knows, we might just meet someone who we’d like to ask– Hum Aapke Hain Koun !
