Get ready to read and laugh, as we reveal the twenty of the strangest and weirdest driving laws from around the world.

1. In Britain, a law still states that all Hackney carriages must carry a bale of hay and a bag of oats with them at all times!

2. In Denmark, drivers have to check under the car before they even start the car. To see if there’s a person ‘underneath.’

3. Eating or drinking anything, while driving in Cyprus is illegal. Even water!

4. In Russia, you’ll be fined if you drive a dirty car.

5. In Germany, it is illegal to run out of fuel on the Autobahn highway.

6. In Luxembourg, all cars must have windshield wipers, even if they don’t have a windshield.

7. In Spain, you must have an extra pair of glasses in the car at all times, even if you’re already wearing a pair.

8. In Scandinavia, it is illegal to drive without headlights, even in daylight.

9. In Manila, Philippines you are not allowed to drive on Mondays if your number plate ends in 1 or 2.

10. In Singapore, it’s against the law for a driver to come within 50 metres of a pedestrian.

11. In Alabama, it is illegal to drive the wrong way down a one-way street as long as a lantern is attached to the front of your car.

12. Also, it is illegal for a driver to be blindfolded, while operating a vehicle in Alabama.

13. In Alaska, it is illegal to tie a dog to the roof of your car.

14. In Arkansas, it is illegal for a person to blare the horn on a vehicle at any place where cold drinks or sandwiches are served after 9PM.

15. In California and Tennessee, shooting animals from your car is illegal, unless that animal is a whale.

16. In Florida, if an elephant is tied to a parking meter, the owner or an attendant must deposit money in the meter.

17. In Illinois, it is unlawful to change clothes, while inside a car with the curtains drawn, except during a fire.

18. In Massachusetts, you will be fined if you drive with a gorilla in the back-seat of your car.

19. If your car breaks down in Michigan, be aware that sitting in the middle of the street to read a newspaper is illegal.

20. In New Orleans and Memphis, it is a law that a woman must have a man in front of the car, with a warning flag if is she is to drive.

The world is full of ridiculous laws and the law makers have never tried to ponder over it!!!! Rediculous!!!

More often than not common sense is your best defense and more often than not, we tend to overlook the most basic things and become a victim of auto theft. In India, a vehicle is stolen on an average of every 34 minutes. Not only does auto theft cost the victim time and money, but also it creates potential danger for the society as a whole. As many a times, the same stolen vehicles are used to commit other crimes and are often sold to innocent and unsuspecting customers.

Below is the list of 20 basic tips you must keep in mind, as a responsible car owner and driver to minimise your chances of being a victim of auto theft.

1. One of the most basic tip is to make sure you lock your vehicle, close all the windows and sun roof and don’t forget to take your keys.

2. Never hide your duplicate set of keys in your car.

3. Don’t leave valuables, cellphones, iPods, laptops etc. in the plain view.

4. Don’t leave important documents such as passports, credit cards, bank statements, bill or any other documents that has your personal information on it in the car. Thieves can use this information against you to access banks and card accounts.

5. Never leave the car registration papers inside the car. If in case, your car gets stolen, it will make it easier for the thief to dispose off your vehicle. Keep license and registration papers on you all the time.

6. Park in well-lit areas with plenty of pedestrian traffic, or when possible in attendant lots.

7. In case of valet parking, make sure you leave only the ignition and door key with the valet.

8. Never leave your vehicle running unattended outside ATM’s or grocery stores. Take your time to park and securely lock your car and then run your respective errands.

9. Always engage the handbrake or leave your car in gear to protect the vehicle from theft by towing. Also, turn the wheels towards the curb. This makes towing your vehicle more difficult.

10. If you have a secure garage, always use it. When parked in a garage, lock the garage securely as well as your car and close all windows.

11. Remove the electronic ignition fuse, coil wire, rotor, distributor or otherwise disable your vehicle if you are leaving it unattended for an extended period.

12. Maximum number of cars that are stolen are older. Probably, because owners with older cars become complacent. But remember older vehicles will always remain more in demand for parts. So, don’t lose your edge.

13. Drop your business card or address label or some other trace of information in your vehicle door. This will identify you and aid the cops in their investigation in case of car theft.

14. If you have installed an anti-theft alarm system in your car, make sure to engage the device after parking.

15. In addition to steering wheel locks that prevent the steering wheel from turning, there is also an anti-theft device called the floorboard locks, which disable brake and accelerator pedals.

16. You can also get the gearshift lock installed in the car that disables shifting of transmission.

17. Similarly, there are also tyre locks available in the market, which prevent the vehicle from moving.

18. Hood locks prevent thieves from gaining access to your car security system and battery.

19. Always stay alert as you approach your vehicle. Check around, under and inside your vehicle before getting in your vehicle. Immediately, leave the scene if you have any suspicion and come back with help. If confronted by a car jacker, avoid verbal or physical confrontation as far as possible.

20. Be wary of people coming close to your car windows, asking for directions or handing out fliers.

Auto theft prevention, like all crime prevention, involves limiting the criminal’s ability and/or an opportunity to commit the crime. It generally takes a mere few seconds to secure your valuables, but it will take only a few seconds more for a thief to break in and steal valuables left in plain sight. With very little time and effort you can make a huge difference in your vulnerability to auto-burglary.

Logitech India have launched the PowerShell Controller + Battery in the country today at Rs 8,995.

The Apple approved accessory provides console-style gaming controls and extends battery life of the iPhone 5, iPhone 5S and the iPod Touch.

To use the accessory all you have to do is to insert a compatible iPhone or iPod Touch device running iOS 7 into the controller and you can enjoy a gaming experience similar to that of a portable gaming console – complete with an analog D-pad, shoulder triggers and face buttons for controlling game play. With the controls being taken off the smartphone, the entire screen of the phone becomes the viewing arena, giving a more immersive mobile gaming experience.

Coming to the battery pack, the controller is able to increase the battery capacity of an iOS 7 device, thanks to the in-built, 1,500mAh unit. When the battery in the controller is running low, one can easily recharge it via a micro-USB cable that is provided in the box, to top up both the device and the PowerShell.

Once your iOS 7 device has been decked in a layer of PowerShell, you would still be able to make and receive calls, operate the volume buttons, the ring/silent switch and the power/sleep button. The accessory also features a 3.5mm headphone adapter with an angled design so that ear phone cords do not get in your way, while playing.

The Logitech PowerShell weighs a mere 120 grams and dons a textured, soft rubber surface, which allows for hours of gaming. Logitech India is offering a 3-year limited hardware warranty on the PowerShell Controller + Battery.

Commenting on the launch, Mr Subrotah Biswas, director of Logitech India and South West Asia remarked, “We have designed the first kind of controller for iPhone 5/5S devices for a true console-gaming experience. We understand that gaming is an extremely high-speed performance activity, which requires accuracy, control and precision and with mobile platform in demand, its time to revolutionise the whole mobile gaming experience.”

With the introduction of the PowerShell accessory in India – that was already launched in the U.S market back in 2013 – Logitech India has further cemented its commitment towards mobile gaming space. However, the PowerShell isn’t the only smartphone gaming controller in the Indian market today. Back in December 2013, Samsung had introduced the GamePad for its Galaxy users, while the Mogo Pro gaming controller is compatible with most of the Android smartphones.

All of us at some point have come across long rows of cars with ‘’For Sale” placards in our respective cities. And when there’s everything available in the second hand market from Maruti 800s to low mileage BMW M5s and Bentley Continental GTs, it can be tad overwhelming for an inexperienced used car buyer to make the right choice. We tell you in the detail the right way to go about buying a used car so that you don’t become one of the casualties of this highly unorganized sector.

Make Up Your Mind
The most important thing to do first is to decide. With an ocean of choice around, this can be the most difficult part. When zeroing in on a car, it is always important to jot down all your requirements and prioritize them, as you’ll need heaven’s choicest blessings to come across the perfect package. Before you start strolling in the used car alley, make sure that you have at least made up your mind as to what kind of vehicle that you would like buy – a small car, hatchback, a three-box sedan, a full-blown SUV, etc. Also, it would help immensely, if you have a minimum and maximum budget in mind.

The Research
You’ll figure, it is much more comforting to step in to the market when you know what you want. It saves you from wasting time on unnecessary distractions and concentrate only on the available cars from your list. Once the car and budget is fixed, you need to get down to some ground work. Finding cars can take time and is an exhaustive process. The easiest way is to make use of online resources. Search tools on various websites enable you to shortlist cars depending on their make, model year, mileage, engine, trim level, locations and what not. it is a lot easier doing this from from the comfort of your home or office than visiting used car dealerships. Once you’re done with this, you will need to start calling people and fixing appointments to check out the car.

Check Out the Car
This is the point where most people are taken for a ride, and not just literally. Checking out the car demands a certain amount of skill, so if you are not too sure about things take someone who knows the innards of a car along. Fix a time in broad daylight as it is easier to inspect the car. Shiny bodywork might mean a well-kept car but can also translate to replacement panels after a serious accident.

Pop that hood and go under the skin. The mounting panels behind the bumpers, where headlamps and grille are mounted are a good place to start as they are bound to get damaged in the event of a serious front collision. Also check the radiator mountings. Check for corrosion and rusty bolts. They might cause serious trouble in the future. If you can, check the underbody for serious damage and skid marks. Needless to say, check the bodywork all around, especially the door sills and also check to see if the doors shut without any obstructions. Check the tyres since replacing a set can be expensive. Open the boot and check the spare wheel. It sometimes shows signs of abuse. Also stand behind the car and check if the front and rear tracks are aligned in the same line. If they are offset, this is a sign of serious chassis damage.

Once you’re inside, check if all electricals are working, right from the light switches, audio system and cabin lights to all power window switches and power mirror controls. Also check if the central locking works perfectly. Check seat adjustments, especially if they are electric. These niggling issues can be expensive fixes.

The Test Drive
Then comes the test drive part. This should be fairly simple if you can gauge if everything is working just fine. Don’t expect it to work like clockwork. Consider yourself lucky if it does, but you can expect a few signs of distress from a used car. It is important to see if the clutch is progressive (and not jerky), gears slot positively and engine revs freely right till the redline. Keep your eyes open for sudden hiccups while accelerating and slowing down and jerky power delivery. Smooth performance is an assurance of some decent amount of life left in the engine. Check brakes, they should be progressive and bite should be decent. Ask the owner if (and when) he got the brake pads replaced. It is always advisable to get the car checked thoroughly by a trained mechanic, given you have that kind of time in your hands and the owner of the car is willing.

The Finances
While you are doing all of this, do not neglect the most important part – the finances. If you’re smart enough, you’ll already have either the cash ready or a ready strategy to get the funds organised quickly. All major banks offer finance on used cars but the rate of interest is pretty high, soaring up to 20 per cent in some cases. This means the car will effectively cost you double its value if you take up a five year loan. Check with your bank for deals based on your employment status and relationship with the bank. Sometimes it is also advisable to go in for a personal loan as the rate of interest works out to be cheaper. There is a lot of paperwork involved so keep important documents like copies of your identity proof (passport, driving license, voter’s ID), address proof, PAN card, bank statements and photographs handy.

Another way to handle this is through a DSA (direct selling agent) for bank loans. Your car dealer might be one in all probability and will cut down your running around time by a fair margin. Double and triple check the rate of interest, EMI amount and tenure of the loan before signing on the dotted line.

Overall, buying a used car is big exercise, much more exhausting than buying a first hand car and those hours spent in the sun might also lead you to lose a few extra pounds. Nevertheless, if you think it’s worth the effort, go for it. Just be careful, do your homework, don’t become a victim and trust no one, except your own eyes and mind.

Even on the best days, the traffic is infuriating.

The concept of lane discipline is unheard of, to many motorists, buses and three-wheelers, as they religiously cut in front of you out of nowhere and then of course, there’s the usual gathering of cows, sitting idle – bang in the middle of narrow city streets or even on the national highways.

Not to mention, the state of roads themselves are in a state of disrepair.

For all these reasons and more, it becomes imperative to spend a good amount of time in making sure that the car you are buying packs in a decent number of safety technologies to keep you and your loved ones safe.

We pick out the top five safest cars for under Rs 10 lakh that are currently on sale in the country.

Ford EcoSport:
The EcoSport is among the most sophisticated vehicles one can buy, this side of Rs 10 lakh. With standard safety features in top-spec variants including ESP (Electronic Stability Program), traction control, ABS and six airbags (for the driver and passenger and side curtain airbags for front and rear seats) there are lots of reasons to feel safe in this compact crossover.

What’s more, the Microsoft-developed SYNC tech will not only make and receive calls, play music or have your text messages read out to you, it will even make an automatic call to the emergency service number – 108, if the car has been involved in a serious accident and airbags are deployed.

Hyundai i20:
Ever since it hit the market, the i20 is well known for being one of the safest cars in its class. The new i20 takes the game forward with the addition of usable gizmos like rain sensing wipers and automatic headlamps. Besides automatic headlamps and wipers, the i20 offers up all the usual set of safety features expected from a car of its size. You get six airbags – dual front, side & curtain, ABS with EBD and reverse parking sensors.

Renault Duster:
The Duster offers a good mix of size, safety features and robust build quality to make it one of the safest affordable cars to be in, should there be any mishap. Safety features onboard include dual front airbags, ABS, EBD with Brake Assist and a protective under guard for the engine.

Hyundai Verna:
Hyundai continues its streak of safe vehicles with the Verna, which, like the i20, gets as many as six airbags. ABS with EBD and disc brakes on all four corners ensures that the Verna sticks to the road and stops efficiently come rain or shine. Other safety tech includes seatbelt pretensioners, rear parking sensors and an electro chromic mirror which automatically senses and reduces light interfering from vehicles following you, thereby reducing glare.

Nissan Micra:
The Micra is nearly all new for 2013 and even the most basic petrol and diesel variants come equipped with a driver-side airbag and speed sensing door lock system. The top-of-the-line XV Premium diesel variant is brimmed with safety tech. You get four airbags, ABS, EBD, speed sensing door lock system, immobilizer with alarm and some more.

While the fact remains, that carmakers are busy coming out with new models every other week, it should be noted that they are also rapidly blending performance and creature comforts with cutting-edge safety technologies.

It is however, a sad fact that most of the safety features are put in the options list, which quickly add to the overall cost of the vehicle.

Hopefully, this scenario will change in the years to come as safety tech becomes more and more economically viable, so as to let automakers provide those features as standard. But until then it is up to us, to cough up an additional premium for our own safety and of those we love.

The device will be available at all retail stores starting tomorrow.

Specs-wise, the all-new Xperia T2 Ultra has a 6-inch HD 1280X720 pixels display with 2.5mm bezels and Mobile BRAVIA Engine 2 display technology. It runs on a customised version of Android 4.3 Jelly Bean out of the box and comes with 1GB of RAM and 8GB internal storage, which can be expanded to up to 32GB via microSD card. Sony has used the 1.4GHz Snapdragon 400 quad-core SoC processor in the phablet, the same chipset that powers the Moto G smartphone.

Sony Xperia T2 Ultra has a 13 megapixel camera with LED flash on the back and a 1.1 megapixel camera in the front. The connectivity suite of the device includes features like 2G, 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0, microUSB 2.0 and NFC. The device runs on a 3,000mAh battery that is good for 14 hours of talk-time and 1,071 hours of stand-by time. The phablet also offers dual-sim functionality. The manufacturer is preloading proprietary apps like Walkman, Album, Movies and PlayMemories online storage on the Xperia T2 Ultra.

At the above mentioned specs and price tag, the Xperia T2 Ultra dual will be up against the likes of Huawei Ascend Mate and the Samsung Galaxy Mega 6.3. Among the three phones, the Galaxy Mega 6.3 boasts of the most powerful features and specs, however it loses out in the camera department and on the pricing front – as its asking price of Rs 27,999 is the highest among the three devices.

The Huawei Ascent Mate features average specs, boasts of a 2GB RAM and comes with powerful battery. The sticker price reads Rs 24,000 for the Ascent Mate making it the most economical option.

The Sony Xperia T2 Ultra on the other hand, is the newest device among the three, features powerful hardware, comes at reasonable price and is backed with the trusted Sony brand – making it the most viable option in the market right now in the mid-range phablet segment.

Last week, according to reports coming out of Germany, it was speculated that Apple is readying a cheaper variant of the already low-cost, iPhone 5C with reduced internal storage. The speculations have well been put to rest today, as Apple has officially launched the iPhone 5C 8GB variant worldwide.

At the moment, the 8GB variant of the iPhone 5C has been rolled out in the U.K, Australia, China and other parts of Europe and will soon arrive in stores in India in the next couple of weeks. The 8GB variant has been priced at 429 pounds in the UK, which is 40 pounds cheaper than the 16GB variant of the iPhone 5C.

Apart from a reduced amount of storage, the latest variant of the iPhone 5C is identical in every way to the hardware that was launched back in September 2013. The smartphone sports a 4-inch retina IPS LCD display (640X1136p, 326ppi), a 8 megapixel rear camera with LED flash and 1.2 megapixel front-facing camera. The device is powered by Apple’s A6 chip, that also powers the iPhone 5.

It was rumored that the 8GB model could replace the iPhone 4S, but for now Apple is still selling that phone alongside the low-price 5C. It’s not unprecedented for Apple to switch up storage options in the middle of an iOS product’s lifecycle, but the company usually adds more room for photos, music, and apps rather than take it away. The introduction of a cheaper iPhone 5C may serve as the best evidence yet that Apple’s mid-level smartphone is somewhere falling short of expectations.

In India, when iPhone 5C launched in November, it had an MRP of Rs 41,900 for the model with 16GB internal storage. Given its relatively high price, iPhone 5C has to compete with the likes of LG G2, Galaxy S4 and Xperia Z1, which have better hardware.

Apple’s executives have never expressed disappointment with the iPhone 5C, and calling the handset a dud is by no means fair. So far, it’s selling better than the 4S did, when it occupied the middle slot in the iPhone portfolio last year.

But every indication is that consumers are choosing the flagship iPhone 5S over the low-cost 5C. Hopefully, this trend will change with the introduction of the iPhone 5C 8GB variant.

Now however, the Indian division of the Japanese bike maker, India Yamaha Motor Pvt Ltd., has extended the recall of the YZF-R1 models that were sold in India over the same issue. The affected motorcycles were manufactured between October 2008 and August 2013.

Yamaha says that in the affected motorcycles, use of the headlight may generate enough heat to cause the bulb connections to expand, resulting in arcing between the terminal connector and the bulb contact. According to the documents released by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the defect in the headlight may cause the socket to overheat and melt, causing the headlight to malfunction. The issue was first detected by Yamaha Motor Company in Japan.

Yamaha will notify the respective owners of the affected motorcycles and the dealers will replace the headlight socket, free of charge. The recall has already begun in the U.S and the other parts of the world at the end of February 2014, while the Indian operations are expected to commence in the coming week. Meanwhile, Yamaha is asking the owners not to use their motorcycles until the headlight sub lead has been replaced.

A letter from Yamaha USA to the Chief Administrator of the NHTSA stated “We anticipate commencing dealer/owner notification shortly after the owner’s notification letter is approved by NHTSA, the affected VIN range is ascertained and the Technical Bulletin service procedure is confirmed and finalized by Yamaha service staff. We anticipate sending the Agency the owner’s notification letter for review/approval by February 19, 2014 along with a draft of the Technical Bulletin.”

The Yamaha R1 is powered by a 998 cc liquid-cooled, four-stroke, DOHC, four-valve, engine producing 182.1 PS at 12,500 rpm and 115.5 Nm of torque at 10,000 rpm. The R1 measures 2,070 mm in length 715 mm in width and 1,130 mm in height with a 1,415 mm wheelbase. The dry weight of the R1 is rated at 206 kg. The motorcycle gets a ‘diamond’ type frame with a telescopic fork at the front and swing-arm type suspension at the rear. Apart from the tachometer, the R1 sports a full LCD instrument cluster.

A headlight failure in any motorcycle reduces the rider’s ability to see clearly and the motorcycles’ visibility to oncoming traffic, increasing the risk of a crash. We strongly urge all the Yamaha YZF-R1 customers in India to get their respective superbikes thoroughly checked by the closest service center to avoid any risk of injury.

As we learned this week, the combination of the two can be very, very slick.

Swedish super car maker, Koenigsegg and Gaming device maker Razer have collaborated to create a line of Koenigsegg-branded Razer Blade laptops. It’s a limited edition series that was officially presented at the recently concluded 2014 Geneva Motor Show. The Razer Blade laptop will not be available on sale and only “a select few Koenigsegg owners and Razer fans will get to use them.” However, the company will be giving away two units of the laptop as part of an online contest.

The Razer Blade, boasted as the world’s thinnest gaming laptop, made its debut back in May 2013. The device sports a 14-inch LED backlit screen with a 1600 x 900 resolution, powered by an Intel Core i7-4702HQ quad-core processor (2.2 GHz, 3.2 GHz) and a built-in 70Wh rechargeable lithium-ion polymer battery.

The list of specs also includes 8 GB of DDR3L-1600 memory, Intel HD 4600 graphics, a discreet Nvidia GeForce GTX 765M GPU (2GB GDDR5), and a built-in 1.3MP webcam. The internal storage is provided by a SATA 3 SSD with 128 GB, 256 GB or 512 GB of storage, depending on your budget.

Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity are handled by the Killer Wireless N 1202 component.

In a release from earlier this week, Christian von Koenigsegg, the company’s CEO, called San Francisco-based Razer its doppelganger. That’s because both companies pay meticulous attention to detail and wish to go “beyond conventional reason to design products for extreme functionality and fun”. In fact, scientists and engineers from the two companies are apparently focused on developing “cutting-edge technology” together.

That said, the limited-edition run of the Koenigsegg-branded Razer Blade laptop is simply a public gesture or symbol meant to inaugurate the Razer-Koenigsegg relationship.

Razer even described the custom collaboration as a “first step in a long relationship from which more exciting products can be born and brought to market”.

Given that this is the beginning of a beautiful relationship, Razer and Koenigsegg customers / fans should expect to see more customized products in the near future.

We detail some of the notable features in the update.

Apple’s new iOS 7.1 software was released earlier this week and has brought along with it a wide range of fixes, improvements and new features for compatible iPhones, iPads and iPod Touch devices.

There are refinements to the design of the operating system; updates to Siri and the accessibility controls; and fixes for buggy features. Most notably, Apple has apparently repaired a bug that was causing iPhones running iOS 7 to restart without warning.

We list out five of the key features that you have to try it out right away.

One:

Apple has finally made it possible to disable the annoying parallax wallpaper effect without eliminating the nice zooming transition and animations when opening and closing apps. To do this, first ensure that “Reduce Motion” is toggled off in Settings > General > Accessibility. Then go to Settings > Wallpapers & Brightness and tap your lock screen wallpaper. Toggle “Perspective Zoom” to off and tap set, then do the same thing for your home screen wallpaper.

Two:

iOS 7.1 includes a number of enhancements to Apple’s virtual personal assistant Siri. For instance, Siri doesn’t know when you’ve ended a question or a command and often misinterprets a pause as the end of your query. But in the new iOS 7.1, you can easily correct Siri’s poor manners. Simply hold down the Home button until you’ve finished your entire question or comment. Until you release that Home button, Siri will wait patiently before offering a response and potentially interrupting you.

Three:

Also, in the new iOS 7.1, Siri’s voice, language and accents have been improved too, so as to sound more authentic and natural. You can either choose a male or a female voice in UK English, Australian English, Canadian English and of course, the plain-old American English. Non-English language options include, Chinese, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean and Italian.

Four:

When Apple first released HDR mode for iOS devices, the option only existed for it to be turned on or off. The all-or-nothing approach wasn’t a horrible idea, but HDR photos aren’t always necessary. With iOS 7.1 on the iPhone 5S, Apple has set HDR mode to automatic by default so that you don’t have to alter the HDR setting before every photo.

Five:

When iOS 7 launched with its redesigned interface, the buttons were replaced with simple text labels. The change seemed like an decent idea to match the buttons with the toned-down approach of the user-interface as a whole in iOS 7. But for some, having to guess what’s a button and what’s simply a text label was a pain. With the release of iOS 7.1, Apple has added the option to bring back the familiar button shapes across the operating system in both native and third-party apps. The switch to enable button shapes can be found in Settings > General > Accessibility. Once enabled, you’ll immediately see the outline of the button at the top of your screen show up.

You should be able to download the latest iOS update by going into your Settings app (it’s the gray gear) and then General and then Software Update, where iOS 7.1 should be waiting for you. You’ll want to plug your iPhone into the wall (or at least have a fully charged battery) and to connect to WiFi Internet before you download, both for speed and so that you don’t eat up your data.

This is a large update, representing 2.5GB of data, so you might have to delete some photos or music to make room for it. And as always, make sure you’ve backed up your iPhone’s data via iTunes or iCloud before you start, just in case something goes wrong.

The new bike was first presented at the recently concluded 2014 Delhi Motor Show.

The highlight of the new Hero Splendor iSmart is of course, the innovative i3S technology, which is a start-stop system that shuts the engine down, while the bike is idling and in neutral, and automatically starts the engine as soon as the clutch is depressed and you slot the bike in gear. This technology is going to be instrumental in increasing the already impressive fuel economy of the bike. As of now however, Hero has not revealed any details regarding the mileage numbers.

Technical-wise, the new Hero Splendor iSmart sports a 100cc air-cooled single cylinder four-stroke engine that is capable of producing 7.8PS of max power at 7,500rpm and a peak torque of 8.04Nm at 4,500rpm. Drum brakes are bolted on to the tubeless tyres with black alloys to manage the braking on this 100cc bike.

Design wise, the Splendor iSmart debuts the much needed cosmetic updates to the range of Hero motorcycles in India. The iSmart has been blessed with new panels, graphics and new paint schemes. The refreshed instrumentation cluster now features an analogue speedometer, odometer and fuel meter, followed by basic warning lights. Switch-gear includes, the start-stop button on the right to manage the iSmart technology. Saddle on the iSmart gets red stitching to give it a more premium feel, with split grab rails. The motorcycle is being offered in a total of four colours with new graphics – Sports Red, Leaf Green, Excellent Blue and Heavy Grey.

The all-new Hero Splendor iSmart is now available on sale across all Hero dealerships in the country and is priced at Rs 49,967 (ex-showroom, Mumbai), Rs 48,192 (ex-showroom, Chennai), Rs 48,549 (ex-showroom, Kolkatta) and Rs 48,014 (ex-showroom, Bengaluru).

Hero’s latest offering, the Splendor iSmart has definitely taken the commuter motorcycle segment to a whole new level with the introduction of the innovative i3S technology and the fresh approach to its design and styling. That said, the Splendor iSmart even at a competitive price won’t be able to escape the fierce competition in the Indian market from the Honda Dream Yuga that is priced at Rs 48,682 and the Bajaj Discover 100M, which retails at Rs 46,023 (Both prices are ex-showroom, New Delhi.)

UpWord Notes doesn’t just hit all of these marks — it does so in such an elegant way, we can’t help but wonder if we’ve finally found the perfect app for quick note taking.

Built exclusively for iOS 7, UpWord embraces much of what makes Apple’s operating system superior, from its smart gesture-based navigation to its intuitive commands. Notes are created by pressing the plus symbol at the bottom of the screen, but you can set it to automatically start a new one each time you open the app — just one of the many personal touches that leaves a strong impression.

After installing the app you get a brief tutorial to show you the ropes. Here you’ll learn how the app handles notes, along with how to navigate, use the gesture controls, and put the app to work for you. At the end of the tutorial, you can connect to your Dropbox account to sync your lists across any Dropbox-connected device you own.

You create a new note by tapping the plus icon on the bottom of the app’s home screen. Alternatively, you can tap and hold the plus icon, giving you the option to create either a Note or a Category. In UpWord Notes, Categories is just a fancy word for folders.

Starting a new note opens a blank screen, with icons across the top for setting reminders, sharing your notes, and a drop down menu to access search features, word count, and a Favorite button to keep notes handy.

Once you begin to enter text you can use the gestures outlined in the tutorial to manage your lists. By swiping to the right on a line of text, you can cross items off a list (great for grocery lists or to-dos). Using the familiar pull-down-to-refresh gesture on any note will clear the screen of any items you have crossed off.

Other gestures are straightforward once you get the hang of them. A swipe to the left lets you change the line into a bullet point, bold the text for creating headings in your list, or change the text color to red with exclamation points at the end (for those important notes that you want to make sure you remember).

Apple’s Notes app on the other hand, lacks the ability to mark items as done, or prioritize items in the list. You have to manually add bullet points, arrange items, and delete entire lines of text (as opposed to crossing items off). With UpWord Notes, all of these areas are covered, making it worthwhile just to save you some time. The bottom line: UpWord Note’s simple, stunning approach to note-taking raises the bar for all others in its class.

This week, Jet Airways have officially announced that it has integrated the Google Now service into its booking system – becoming the first Indian airline to do so.

Mr Narest Goyal-owned Jet Airways made the announced at a press conference earlier this week stating that it has integrated Google Now into into booking system. It means that users booking their flights through www.jetairways.com and the Jet Airways mobile apps will get flight status updates and more information via Google Now on their smartphone.

“With the increased focus on technology to enhance our guests travel experience, the integration of Google Now provides us the opportunity to present guests with customized and relevant information in a seamless and user friendly format. We hope our guests benefit from this efficient application designed to simplify and enhance their travel,” said Gaurang Shetty, Senior Vice President – Commercial, Jet Airways.

Google Now will provide updates on their flight schedule, and the airport terminal for their flights. This information is automatically updated on Google Now. If the flight is delayed or the status changes, the latest information will be reflected in the Google Now card via Google Search.

Google Now will update guests about their upcoming flights, provide flight status, and information about the departure time and terminal. This feature is available via the Google Search app for iOS devices on Apple’s App Store, and is built into Android 4.1+ devices, as part of the Google Search App. You can head over to the Google Play Store or the App Store to download the Jet Airways app.

This is not the first time that Jet Airways and Google India have come together for a collaboration. Back in 2012, the two firms had joined hands along with some of the leading eCommerce partners to introduce the concept of Cyber Monday in the country. It was titled the ‘Great Online Shopping Festival’, which gathered a lot of attention and eyeballs. If the latest development of Google Now integration is anything to go by, we hope to see the two giants getting along together for more such technology oriented apps and features.

2014 Harley Davidson Dyna Low Rider

The Low Rider returns to the Harley-Davidson range after a gap of five years and combines a low seat height of just 680mm with an adjustable seat, handlebars and footpegs to make sure the rider can get comfortable. The 1690cc V-twin has been through the same revamp as others as part of the ‘Project Rushmore’ overhaul, which is more about revitalizing the whole range of bikes as a response to owner feedback than creating new models. Twin front brake discs combine with the polished headlamp trim and black wrinkle finish which were key styling elements from the original Low Rider. The 2014 Dyna Low Rider carries a retail price of 14,199 USD or Rs 8,69,830 respectively.

2014 Harley Davidson SuperLow 1200T

Harley-Davidson is pitching the SuperLow 1200T as a lighter option in the touring category and weighs a massive 53.5kg less than the lightest other Harley touring model and has been specifically aimed at shorter riders between 5ft 1in and 5ft 7in. In this way the ground, handlebar and foot controls are all within reach. Harley’s press release states: “Thanks to the power of a 1200cc Evolution V-Twin engine, the SuperLow 1200T can run with the pack, while the rear shock absorbers offer easy pre-load adjustment to accommodate the weight of luggage and passenger on the two-up Reduced Reach touring seat. “The rider position is three inches forward from the SuperLow 883 to make it easier to place feet flat on the ground and to reach the side stand. The SuperLow 1200 T gets a sticker price of 11,799 USD or Rs 7,22,806 approximately.

2014 Harley Davidson Street Bob Special Edition

The new Street Bob Special Edition is a custom model with stripped-down styling and a 1690cc engine, 5-spoke cast wheels and a unique two-tone paint job with graphics. It has forward controls and drag handlebars aimed at giving this bobber a meaner look. The new model has a chopped rear mudguard, Fat Bob fuel tank, and blacked-out engine as part of this styling makeover.

Concluding…. All the three Harley’s will be available on sale in the U.S from mid-2014 and are expected to land on the Indian shores by early 2015.

The aforementioned three new models join a heavily revamped Harley-Davidson range which was headlined by the first stage of the new Project Rushmore bikes which were launched last year. Those models included the Road King, Electra Glide and Street Glide ranges.

Now with expansion of the Harley’s global range, things can only get more interesting.

We can hardly wait for the new range to show up in Harley Davidson showrooms in India.

This week however, LG has commercially debuted the 16GB and 32GB variants of the LG G2 4G smartphone for Rs 46,000 and Rs 49,000 respectively. Both the variants of the LG G2 will be available on sale across all retailers in India starting from mid-March 2014.

LG had first unveiled the G2 3G version in August last year, and it later was launched in India at Rs 41,500. The 4G LTE version sports the same specifications as that of the present LG G2 available in the market, apart from the addition 4G LTE support.

The LG G2 features a 5.2-inch full-HD (1080×1920 pixels) display, with a pixel density of 423ppi. It is powered by Qualcomm’s quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor that’s clocked at 2.26GHz. The device comes with 2GB of RAM. The LG G2 sports a 13-megapixel rear camera with Optical Image Stabilisation and a 2.1-megapixel front shooter. LG’s latest flagship runs Android Jelly Bean 4.2.2 and is powered by a 3000mAh battery. The LG G2 sports dimensions of 138.5×70.9×8.9mm and weighs 143 grams.

The LG G2 comes with a unique design that features the power buttons and the volume rocker at the back of the phone, below the rear camera, instead of the sides of the phone. It also comes with bezels as thin as 2.65mm.

Apart from the G2 4G variant, LG had also unveiled the compact version of the LG G2 called the G2 Mini just before Mobile World Congress 2014. The smartphone is the lighter version of the flagship G2 and features a smaller 4.7-inch IPS LCD display with a qHD (540X960 pixels) resolution.

All variants of the LG G2 Mini will also come with a 1GB of RAM. The device’s camera options will include an 8-megapixel rear (with flash support) and a 1.3-megapixel front facing shooter. The LG G2 mini comes with 8GB of onboard storage with an option for its expandability via microSD card. The device also supports 4G connectivity. The battery capacity of LG G2 mini is 2440mAh.

LG has also planned the India launch of the LG Life Band Touch wristband in second half of 2014, which the company revealed on Monday during their LG Tech Show in India. The fitness tracker wristband was previously unveiled during the CES 2014.

The LG Life Band Touch wristband tracks physical activities such as steps taken, distance covered and calories consumption. The Life Band Touch features an OLED touch display which works as a watch and shows notifications from the connected device. The Life Band Touch also includes touch controls for music playback and receiving calls from the synced device.

Coming back to LG G2, the smartphone is unarguably, the most well-rounded Android devices available in the market today. With the likes of G2 3G and the G2 4G variants, the high-end Android smartphones have finally reached the point where the iPhone starts looking massively behind the curve.

At the MCW 2014, Nokia showed off three new smartphones in its all-new X-Series – the X, X+ and the XL. While, the Nokia X is now available on sale across India from today, the X+ and the XL are expected to make their respective commercial debuts in the next two months.

Nokia’s first Android smartphone, the Nokia X is based on the Android Open Source Project (AOSP) and is powered by Microsoft and Nokia services. The highlight of the Nokia X is the highly customized version of Android, with Metro-inspired UI access to Nokia’s own app store. While, there’s no access to Google’s Play Store, users can side-load Android apps from any third-party source. Nokia has used the AOSP version corresponding to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean as the baseline for its operating system.

Specs-wise, Nokia’s first Android phone offers dual-SIM (GSM+GSM) support with dual standby and features a 4-inch IPS LCD display with 480 X 800 pixel resolution, translating to a pixel density of 233ppi. The budget smartphone is powered by a 1GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 processor, alongside 512MB of RAM. It sports a 3 megapixel rear camera that can record SD quality video and comes with 4GB of in-built storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card.

Connectivity features include Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, GPS with A-GPS, EDGE, GPRS and 3G. The battery pack consists of a 1,500mAh unit, which is rated to deliver up to 13 hours of talk time and up to 672 hours of standby time on 2G network. The Nokia X is being offered in a total of six colour options: Black, Green, Cyan, Yellow, Red and White. Lastly, Nokia is also offering 3GB of additional free OneDrive storage for photos, with auto-sync features. Nokia Mix Radio and Here Maps with voice directions will also come pre-loaded.

Overall, the Nokia X is the Finnish brand’s big effort to make greater waves into the low, low end of the smartphone market – and for that, the company has enlisted help of Android. The device comes with a fairly decent spec list for a phone thats’ coming at Rs 8,599. It certainly cannot be compared with the likes of say, the Moto G as the Nokia X is not meant for the more developed regions in terms of smartphone use. This smartphone is for areas where Android devices are sold at a much lower average price, but still can do the most basic things that other smartphones can. With that is mind, the Nokia X is probably one of the highly economical and feature-rich budget smartphones on sale in India today.

Google has introduced its Indoor Maps feature for various malls and museum across several cities in the country. This feature includes detailed floor plans for indoor venues, mostly of malls and other public places such as art galleries in India and can be accessed through the Google Maps app on Android and iOS powered devices.

Google’s Indoor Maps in its first phase will be available for 75 buildings across 22 cities in India including, Delhi, NCR, Mumbai, Chennai, Pune, Hyderabad, Kolkata, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad and Goa. In Delhi, users will be able to see Indoor Maps for Ansal Plaza in Jhel Gaon, Ambience Mall in Guragoan, Select City Walk in New Delhi, while users in Mumbai will be able to access Indoor Maps for the InOrbit Mall in Vashi and Malad, Palladium Mall, Fun Republic Mall in Andheri, etc.

The Google Indoor Maps will be available to consumers immediately. Those who use Google Maps on Android phones or iPhones and iPads will be prompted for an update to their Maps app and once, they have updated the app, they will be able to use Indoor Maps option.

To see the indoors of a venue, a user can zoom in, on a building to where indoor map data is available or zoom out to go back to the maps. The Indoors Map include floor-wise plans and information within a mall and allows users to get directions by using the My Location feature which is available for some of these locations. This feature will locate the user’s position and navigate their way inside. There will be the blue-dot icon, which will indicate a user’s approximate location in order to give indoor walking directions to a user. Other interested Indian business owners can get their location’s floor plan included in Google Maps by visiting – maps.google.com/floorplans

The feature uses several techniques to find the location of a user. The most important of these is the ability to look for Wi-Fi. Inside building GPS signals are very weak. Hence, Google is relying on a phone’s ability to scan for Wi-Fi and then the Wi-Fi details to determine location. Google says that the Indoor Maps feature would work best when a user has the Wi-Fi scanning option turned on in the phone. The tech giant further clarified that for this feature, the phone only needs to scan for networks and doesn’t have to connect to them.

Google’s Indoor Maps are already available in other parts of the world, in countries including U.S, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong and the Netherlands. “We launched indoor maps in countries like the US earlier. Now we are bringing it to India. We worked with mall owners and authorities to get the floor plans and location details and have added that information to Google Maps,” Suren Ruhela, director and product manager, India Google Maps said. “For now we are starting with 75 places. But as we get feedback from consumers and work with more partners, we hope to add more places.” Ruhela further added.

Google has recently been resurrecting their map offerings in India, after their Street View plans ran into roadblocks in June 2011, after security concerns were raised in Karnataka, just three weeks after they started. The Indoor Maps feature however, is not entirely new as earlier Nokia too, had introduced indoor venue maps through the HERE Venue feature, which offers details on specific stores, product offers, floor levels, elevators and restrooms within a shopping mall.

This is the third motorcycle under Bajaj’s Discover range to feature displacement of 125cc after the Discover 125ST and the Discover 125T.

Design-wise, the new Discover 125 looks similar to its other 125cc siblings and employs the same chiseled muscular tank along with an aggressive fairing with sharp edged headlamps. The major highlight of the model however, comes from the engine-specs department. The 125cc, air-cooled, 4-valve, TwinSpark DTS-i engine is rated to produce 11.5PS of max power and 10.8Nm of peak torque.

Compared to the earlier Discover 125, the power figure has been dropped by 1PS, while the torque figure has been kept unchanged. This has been done to hike the fuel efficiency of the motorcycle and the Indian bike major is claiming that new Discover 125 will run for 76 kilometers on one litre of fuel. The overall fuel tank capacity of the motorcycle is 9.5 litres and Bajaj is claiming a top speed of 100kmph.

The Discover 125 gets 130mm drum brakes as standard, but you can also opt for a 200mm front petal disc for some extra bucks. The motorcycle also features standard Nitrox gas-charged suspension, electric start and DC headlamp. The new 2014 Bajaj Discover 125 will be offered in India in a total of six colour options: Electric Blue, Wine Red, Charcoal Magenta, Charcoal Green, Silver Blue and Silver Gold.

Commenting on the launch K Srinivas, president of motorcycle business, said, “Many consumers are tired of the regular commuter bikes which offer only around 8PS of Power. They would ideally wish to upgrade to sportier, attractive bikes with superior technology and features. However barriers such as price and mileage deter them to move on to the 125cc segment. The all new Discover 125 offers equivalent mileage of a 100cc and comes with exciting performance and features all at an attractive price. We want the Indian commuter to live life to the fullest and “Jiyo Dana-Dan.”

Bajaj has priced the new Discover 125 very aggressively in India at Rs 46,699 for the standard variant and at Rs 48,619 for the disc brakes variant (Both prices are ex-showroom, Maharashtra.)

And at the said price point, the motorcycle will go head on with some of the very strong competitors in Indian market such as the Honda CB Shine, Hero Glamour and Hero Passion Pro.

On the plus side for the Discover 125 however, is the fact that although the motorcycle is touted as a budget motorcycle, Bajaj has loaded the bike with features like alloy wheels, Nitrox suspension and petal disc brakes, which are normally seen only on the high-end motorcycles. Design wise too, the bike has been styled similar to the 125ST and looks stylish compared to the other 125cc commuters.

Add to that, the class leading fuel efficiency figures and you have one potent commuter motorcycle tailor-made for the Indian market.

The phablet will be available on sale across all online e-retailers such as Flipkart, Snapdeal, ebay, Naaptol, Tradus, Homeshop18, Indiatimes, Rediff, Amazon, Shopclues, Infibeam, etc.

The BSNL Champion DM6513 comes with dual-SIM compatibility and features a massive 6.5-inch display, a G-Sensor and sports FM with recording facility. It is powered by a dual-core processor (from an unspecified chipset maker) with 512MB of RAM and 4GB of internal storage, which can be expanded up to 32GB via microSD card. Camera-specs include a 5 megapixel rear camera and a 2 megapixel front-facing camera. Connectivity features include 3G, Wi-Fi and GPS. Battery pack consists of a 3,500mAh unit with up to 4 hours of talk time and up to 62 hours of stand by time. The device runs on Android 4.2.2. Jelly Bean out of the box.

Launching the new phablet, Mr Kapil Wadhwa, managing director of Champion Computers said, “Our BSNL DM6513 is a 6.5-inch phablet, which is suitable for both work and play. After introducing feature phones and smartphones, we were certain to penetrate in the Phablet market. We have devised our product with all the necessary features at a very competitive pricing. We are affirmative that this product will set great standards and substantiate that we are offering the best of quality at very affordable prices.”

And at an economical price of Rs 6,999 we reckon the BSNL Champion DM6513 could indeed get its deserving share in the Indian market, provided that both companies get their marketing and advertising right. In the given price range however, the BSNL phablet will directly rival the Zync Z605 phablet, which also comes with a 6.5-inch display, features a dual-core processor and is slightly priced higher than the DM6513 at Rs 7,999.
