Ram Kapoor: The most lovable fat man of TV!

A very down-to-earth man, who is a pampering brother to a stepsister Natasha, an obedient son to a stepmother, a “chaddi-buddy” to his only friend Vikram, falls in love with Priya, whom he marries for the sake of his younger sister.

Many girls dream of marrying that picture perfect prince from fairy tales but in some cases it is men like Ram Kapoor that seem to fulfil the need. Indian women love to fall for Mr. Kapoor from Bade Achhe Lagte Hain, claiming him to beone of the most scrumptious men in the Indian television.

Based on the Hindi novel Patrani by Imtiaz Patel, the character portrayed by him is of a Punjabi businessman who loves to gorge on food. Think loads of makkhan on paranthas! His character lets him play a down-to-earth business tycoon who falls in love with the simplicity of his wife Priya Kapoor. In real life too, Ram shares a strong bond with his wife Gautami Kapoor.

Graduating from an acting academy in Los Angeles, Ram got a break with Sudhir Mishra’s Nyay in 1997. While the show did not gain much popularity, his work was very much appreciated and he went on taking more shows.  His big break was Ghar Ek Mandir in 2000, which gained him recognition in every Indian family. Even though his looks are quite contrary to what a stereotype lead man would look like, he leaves a concrete impact on the viewer with his acting skills.  Being the only person to win the Indian Telly award for the best actor consecutively for three years, Ram’s career trajectory is what helps him gain more and more fans.

Another reason Ram has been able to strike a chord in every Indian’s heart is not only his sheer acting skill, but also his integrity as an actor. Indulging totally in the role he plays, his ability to become that memorable character, even when the story is not focused on him, is fascinating. The biggest role he has delivered so far is that of Jai Walia from Kasam Se on Zee TV, wherein he is potrayed as a ruthless business tycoon opposite Prachi Desai.

Ram Kapoor’s appeal lies in his realistic attitude. Be it his preference to stay connected with fans or his humbleness to accept his flaws, Ram is a complete package filled with style and persona and humour that helps him strike a chord with the audience. In an era where being a celebrity is all about aloofness and being inaccessible, Ram makes it a point to take out time to interact with his fans and commits to them.

Along with fiction shows, Ram is also known for his anchoring in Rakhi ka Swayamvar onNDTV and Welcome on LIFE OK but with Bade ache lagte hain he reclaimed fame and created a spark in the recent times. The onscreen chemistry with co-star Sakshi Tanwar fetched him the ‘Best Jodi Award’ at the Global Indian Film and T.V. Honors and the Dadasaheb Phalke award for best actor (male) in 2012.

Ram’s affable character as Mr. Kapoor makes every woman swoon and every man envy. He may not be the fittest actor around but definitely is the most charming!
