It was always going to be a rough ride for the Spaniards as the Chileans ran victorious from goals scored by Eduardo Vargas and Charles Arranguiz. The result thus allowed the South Americans and the Netherlands, the first teams to go through to the second round in tournament. And for Spain, they raked up another record by equalling Italy’s unwanted record in 1950 of being booted out of the World Cup after just two games.

It was Chile’s first win over the Spain in 11 meetings. It seemed Vincent del Bosque’s men had lack of confidence and it was evident from their 5-1 thrashing to the Netherlands in their first Group B game.
Spanish Coach Vicente del Bosque dropped established stars Gerard Pique and Xavi Hernandez but had little effect on the La Roja who were playing in front of Rio de Janeiro’s Maracana stadium.

The likes of Diego Costa, Iker Casillas, Sergio Ramos, Andres Iniesta and Xavi looked hapless and out of sorts. While the historic Maracana stadium erupted into a riot of red and blue as Chilean supporters started noisy celebrations. This could well and truly be the ‘end of era’ for the Spanish stalwarts as the world awaits a ‘new champion’ within three weeks time.

Chile plays Netherlands to decide top place in Group B on June 23. Spain plays their final game against Australia on the same day.

But that’s not the reason why our eyes are glued to the television sets these days? Behold the buxom babes or fans that were caught under the lens supporting and cheering on their respective teams at the World Cup in Brazil. Besides the Brazilian bombshells, the likes of Argentina, Portugal, England etc have too added some ‘oomph’ to the football viewership. So without further ado, here’s presenting the sexy football fans of the FIFA World Cup at the Amazon region:

Another loss after their 5-1 thrashing would almost certainly end Spain’s title defense. What’s more, an early exit from the group-stages would make Spain the third straight European winner of the World Cup to flop in the group stage as defending champion.

With Chile as opponents, Spanish coach Vincent del Bosque can make a host of changes to his side that lost to Netherlands.

Spain:
Strengths – If Del Bosque brings in new faces for the clash against Chile, we might get to see a fresh and vibrant Spain. Santi Cazorla, Juan Mata, Cesc Fabregas and David Villa might start the match and would give an impetus to this fluctuating ‘Spanish Armada’.

Weakness – Defence needs to buck as soon as possible. With Chile as opponents, the South American side could leave the full-backs exposed and also threaten them on the set pieces.

Chile:
Strengths – Their win over the Aussies means Chile coach Jorge Sampaoli could start with the same side. This side is known for its blistering pace and quality and could utilise the direct running of forwards Alexis Sanchez and Eduardo Vargas to its fullest.

Weakness – Their star midfielder, Arturo Vidal is still not 100 pc match fit. Six weeks after a knee operation, the Juventus midfielder lacked cohesion and drive that made him the one of the most combative midfielders in the modern game.

Here are the football players who were unfortunate to miss out on the FIFA World Cup due to injury:

Marco Reus – Germany
All was well in the German camp leading upto the World Cup until the friendly against Armenia where the Borussia Dortmund star, Marco Reus became the latest big-name casualty, to be ruled out of the tournament after turning his ankle and giving major headache to coach Joachim Loew.

Radamel Falcao – Colombia
Colombia were ‘so sure’ that their star man, Radamel Falcao would make it to the FIFA World Cup but the Monaco striker failed to recover from his pre-WC injury and was not included in the 23-man squad.

Franck Ribery – France
France and their coach Didier Deschamps were dealt a major blow prior leaving to Brazil when their star winger and Bayern Munich talisman Franck Ribery was ruled out of the tournament after succumbing to a lower-back injury in training.

Theo Walcott – England
The English team were rocked with injuries including the Arsenal forward Theo Walcott who was ruled out for the World Cup in January after hit by a serious knee injury in a FA Cup game against Tottenham Hotspurs.

Kevin Strootman – Holland
Netherlands coach Louis van Gaal and his merry men troops have suffered far worse than most teams in their build up for the World Cup. Marred with injuries, that included Rafael van der Vaart, Gregory van der Wiel as well as Manchester United target Kevin Strootman. The midfielder’s absence will be felt the most, having suffered a cruciate ligament surgery in March.

Riccardo Montolivo – Italy
Another star player who was ruled out of the World Cup was Italy’s key midfield marshal – Riccardo Montolivo. The player broke the tibia in his left leg in Italy’s warm-up clash against the Republic of Ireland and is set to be out for six months. What a blow would that be for Italy and their World Cup chances!

Luis Montes – Mexico
Mexico were another side that was rocked with an injury to their key midfielder Luis Montes who was left the game three minutes after scoring with a broken leg!

Thiago Alcantara – Spain
Even though reigning champions Spain are blessed with talent in the midfield, losing a player of Thiago Alcantara’s quality can be a massive blow. The Bayern Munich midfielder was ruled out for the World Cup due to knee ligaments after being named in Vicente del Bosque’s original 30-man squad.

Christian Benteke – Belgium
Even though he failed to live up to his reputation in the English Premier League, Belgium will miss the services of their talisman striker, Christian Benteke who suffered an achilles tendon injury.

Roman Shirokov – Russia
Russia and their coach Fabio Capello were dealt a major blow prior flying out to Brazil when their captain and key midfielder Roman Shirikov was ruled out due to a knee injury.

How badly are the teams going to miss the services of their stars that are ruled out due to injuries? With every match labelled as a ‘decider’, the countries will hope they are not left to rue the services of their injured prone superstars.

They may be playing the best football on the field but for these stars, however, their looks on the field matter a bit more as well.

Behold the biggest names in world football show us their most insane haircuts you are likely to see during the FIFA World Cup 2014 in Brazil.

We are not sure if some of these hairdos have a name yet, but if you happen to know, and then be sure to let us know by dropping a comment below.

David Luiz (Brazil)

Brazil’s towering defender, David Luiz may be serious on the field but his resemblance to The Simpsons’ ‘Sideshow Bob’ really makes a case.

Paul Pogba (France)

This French midfielder has taken his game to a whole new level and so as his…errr….hairstyle!

Cristiano Ronaldo (Portugal)

CR7 has opted for a ‘new’ look at Brazil this time around and we hope, the hairdo brings him some luck in clinching the trophy.

Bacary Sagna (France)

Arsenal and France right-back Bacary Sagna has one of the ‘wackiest’ hairdo’s at this year’s FIFA World Cup. Goldilocks? anyone?

Neymar (Brazil)

Brazil is known to have players with wacky hairstyles and here’s presenting Neymar as one it’s best example.

Mario Balotelli (Italy)

The controversial Italian striker might just have a case or too about his latest hairstyle. Hope, this one does not land him in yet another controversy!
