<p><strong>Why is it called Golden Temple?</strong></p>
<p>This temple was given the name of the golden temple due to the gold enclosed on the outer layer of the temple, which Maharaja Ranjit Singh had offered several hundred years after the temple was built. Before this, the temple was known only by the name of Darbar Sahib or Harmandir Sahib.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-71755" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/6-14.jpg" alt="golden temple" width="768" height="512" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/6-14.jpg 768w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/6-14-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></p>
<p><strong>What are the beliefs associated with the lake (sarovar) of Temple? </strong></p>
<p>The lake in the temple also enhances its uniqueness. It is said that this lake has medicinal properties. All the devotee who comes to visit Darbar Sahib, cannot enter in the main temple without washing their hands and feet in the lake. It is also believed that the path coming out of the lake shows that there is a journey even after death.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-71752" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/3-30.jpg" alt="" width="768" height="576" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/3-30.jpg 768w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/3-30-533x400.jpg 533w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></p>
<p><strong>Is Golden Temple for Sikhs only?</strong></p>
<p>The doors of the Golden Temple are open to the people of all religions, followers of all religions are allowed to come. The four gates of this temple, made in four directions, point to this fact that people of any religion, caste and place can come to this temple.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-71754" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/5-24.jpg" alt="" width="768" height="512" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/5-24.jpg 768w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/5-24-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 768px) 100vw, 768px" /></p>

<p>The world&#8217;s largest langar service is held here, in which millions of people eat every day. It is said that Mughal emperor <a href="https://www.youngisthan.in/history/best-emperors-of-india/71202">Akbar</a> also sat down as an ordinary person and had langar in Golden Temple.</p>
<p>This way, people give their services &#8211; the rich or poor and anyone can serve as per their desire and strength. You can serve here in various ways such as collecting shoes, cleaning the dishes, making food etc.</p>

<p><strong>Stairs of the temple </strong></p>
<p>The stairs of the temple go to the bottom from the top rather from the bottom to top which shows that life should always remain humble and stay connected with the land.</p>
<p><img class="alignnone wp-image-71750" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/1-37.jpg" alt="" width="754" height="424" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/1-37.jpg 970w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/1-37-660x371.jpg 660w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2018/10/1-37-768x432.jpg 768w" sizes="(max-width: 754px) 100vw, 754px" /></p>
