Is AAP’s enthusiasm killing it?

The enthusiasm after several surveys predicting their emergence as seat snatchers from major parties has surely converted into over enthusiasm. Maybe this is the reason which has blocked their sense of logic.

The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Sunday claimed that Rs.1,400 crore was distributed in some media houses to defame the party. The allegation comes in the wake of a sting operation by media portal mediasarkar.com, which showed some AAP members allegedly accepting donations without proper verification.

“I am told Rs.1,400 crore have been distributed to a few media houses. Who are these media houses?” tweeted AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal.

The party also held a press conference in the national capital in which it gave a clean chit to all its members featured in the video and reiterated that it will sue the media portal’s chief executive officer Anuranjan Jha as well as some other media houses.

“We will soon be filing civil and criminal defamation cases against the media portal and some channels,” lawyer Prashant Bhushan said.

“Portions have been edited and deleted to show AAP candidates in bad light. There is political motivation behind the operation. All our members are honest and innocent,” party leader Yogendra Yadav said.

The sting that came out Thursday showed AAP leaders, including Shazia Ilmi, candidate from south Delhi’s R.K. Puram, accepting donations without proper verification days before the Dec 4 Delhi assembly polls.

The slippery slope that AAP has been diving on since its inception has become even steeper. Barely a few days ago before AAP was stung by mediasarkar.com, AAP was in news because of its hero Kejriwal’s fall out with his guru Anna Hazare. Also, Ilmi was under fire from media for letting television anchor Rajiv Laxman use cuss word in public for home minister Sushil Kumar Shinde.

AAP organised a concert at Jantar Mantar yesterday. The ‘Jeet Ki Goonj’ concert had Kejriwal and other senior leaders like Mnaish Sisodia and Kumar Vishwas on the stage. But things went wrong when singer Vishal Dhadlani used cuss words for AAP’s opponents.

Since AAP thrives on popular support, it seems that it has now taken that popularity for granted. They have started to think that calling names to the politicians and ministers of the government will only make them more popular because the public has anger inside it because of the rampant corruption in the country. They are perhaps forgetting that they have land themselves in the same bag by forming a party.
