Samsung Z: Samsung Launches a SmartPhone With Non Android Tizen Platform!

Samsung, breaks away from Android to launch the first ever Tizen-based smartphone, the Samsung Z. Tizen is a home-grown Non-Android OS which enables users to experience fast web-browsing

Samsung Electronics Co Ltd has finally introduced Samsung Z, the world’s first commercial smartphone with Tizen platform.

Tizen is an open-source software developed by Samsung & Intel, and is the manufacturer’s attempt to lessen its dependence on Google, thus setting itself apart from its competitors. The launch of Samsung Z comes just months after the tech giant launched Gear 2, a smartwatch, which also runs Tizen.

Scheduled to release last year, Samsung faced several issues in bringing the phone to the market. However, the Samsung Z is finally here and will go on display at the Tizen Developer Conference at San Francisco which starts from June 3, 2014. The company will also launch a Tizen store to offer additional software and apps for its users.

The Korean manufacturer claims that Tizen will enable faster start-up time, smooth multi-tasking, and speedy web browsing, thus ensuring a lag-free and superior smartphone experience. It also comes equipped with a “distinctive home and application layout for easy access to favorite features and apps.”

Flaunting black and golden hues, Samsung Z boasts of a slim and angular design, which seems different from the Galaxy series. The phone’s dimensions are 138.2 x 69.8 x 8.5 mm, and it weighs merely 136 grams.

Sporting a 4.9-inch, Full HD, AMOLED display, with 1280×720 pixel resolution, the handset supports 2D and 3D graphics. It derives its power from a 2.3 GHz quad-core processor paired with 2 GB of RAM. The device runs Tizen 2.2.1 OS and brings onboard an inbuilt memory of 16 GB with an option to further expand it to 64 GB via a Micro SD card.

The handset houses an 8 MP rear-end camera and comes loaded with features, such as, LED Flash, BSI Sensor, mini mode, best photo, quick shot, drama, and panorama. It also packs a 2.1 MP front-facing snapper.

Connectivity suite includes Bluetooth 4.0, Wi-Fi 802.11, MIMO, GPS/GLONASS, USB 2.0, NFC and IR Remote. A 2,600 mAh battery fuels the device.

Other Samsung Z features include fingerprint sensor, ultra power saving mode, heart rate sensor, S Health, download booster, color theme customization, dynamic box, and more.

As of now, there is no information on the price of Samsung Z.

With an array of decent Samsung Z specs, the phone is bound to create a stir in the market by virtue of its powerful Tizen platform. It will first arrive in Russia in the third quarter of 2014, followed by other parts of the world.

Here’s hoping that Samsung’s new and enhanced technology wins the hearts of its loyalists!
