Asaram Bapu arrested in Indore in sexual assault case

Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu was arrested on Saturday night from his ashram in Indore in connection with the sexual assault case filed by a minor girl.

Self-styled godman Asaram Bapu was arrested on Saturday night from his ashram in Indore in connection with the sexual assault case filed by a minor girl.

As reported by Hindustan Times, earlier in the night, Asaram was questioned by the Jodhpur Police after a long wait at an Indore ashram. Asaram had told the police they should finish the questioning by 10pm as he has to rest after that.

In the day, Asaram’s son Narayan Sai held a press conference and said his father was suffering from a neurological disorder and would fly to Jodhpur, where he is wanted in a sexual assault on a minor girl, as soon as his health improves.

In the day, confusion prevailed over Asaram’s whereabouts, and the Jodhpur police had detained at least half a dozen supporters for attacking a TV reporter and a cameraman, which left them seriously injured.

On Friday too, he first called in sick. Then his son Narayan Sai addressed reporters at their Bhopal ashram complex around noon, claiming that Asaram was not well and his plan to fly to Delhi in the morning was cancelled.

Meanwhile, his supporters kept pouring in from various corners, including Maharashtra and Gujarat. On Saturday morning, around 4,000 people from across the country thronged his ashram, where the godman’s son was conducting a havan.
