Besides the Costa Rica and England game, the rest of the ties turned out to be quite an exciting bunch as this year’s FIFA World Cup keeps up the entertainment factor.

Besides the Costa Rica and England game, the rest of the ties turned out to be quite an exciting bunch as this year’s FIFA World Cup keeps up the entertainment factor.

Here’s are review of the four games played last night including the Group D and Group C.

Group C
Japan vs. Colombia
ResultColombia win by 4-1
Monaco star James Rodriguez scored a brilliant goal and set up two more for fellow teammate Jackson Martinez as Colombia thrashed Japan 4-1 on Tuesday to confirm top spot in Group C and eliminate the Asian champions from the World Cup. Already assured of advancing in the Round of 16, Colombia guaranteed first place with their third straight win, setting up a second-round match against Uruguay.

Greece vs. Ivory Coast
ResultGreece win by 2-1
Ivory Coast suffered a major heartbreak when Greek striker Georgios Samaras scored an injury-time penalty to put his country into the second round of the World Cup with a 2-1 win over Ivory Coast on Tuesday. Samaras was adjudged to have been tripped over in the penalty area by opponent defender Giovanni Sio and coolly slotted in the spot kick for a win that puts Greece through to the knockout stage.

Group D
Costa Rica vs. England
ResultDraw
Surprise package Costa Rica finished first in what many considered the World Cup’s toughest group after a dull 0-0 draw against a second-string England side on Tuesday. Costa Rica only needed a draw to top Group D and in the end, shared the spoils with an English side that were looking down in the dumps.

Italy vs. Uruguay
ResultUruguay won 1-0
Captain Diego Godin scored in the 81st minute as Uruguay eliminated 10-man Italy 1-0 on Tuesday to reach the second round of the World Cup, although the victory was overshadowed by a biting incident involving the Liverpool star forward Luis Suarez. Four-time champions Italy are heading home after the group phase for the second time in four years.

The South American teams have mostly impressed at this year’s FIFA World Cup and it seems that we could have a ‘surprise’ in store as far as the finals are concerned.
