MS Dhoni backs struggling Yuvraj Singh

Inspite of his match winning effort of 77* against the Aussies in the one-off T20 game at Rajkot, Yuvraj Singh has yet to hit big scores. In the 7 game series against Australia and 2 ODI’s against the West Indies, Yuvi has not even reached the fifty figure mark. His last 5 games include the scores of 28, 16*, 12, 0 and 0. However, when the selectors got down to select the ODI team for the SA tour, to everyone’s surprise, Yuvraj Singh made it to the team.

After Sunday’s loss to the West Indies, speaking to the press after the game, Dhoni backed misfiring Yuvraj Singh. “Leave aside batting and bowling, anyone can drop catches. Let’s not be critical about it. We want Yuvi to do well. He is someone who can bat well at No.4, someone who can really dominate the opposition. However, in the last few games, he has struggled a bit. At times it happens when you’re under pressure. We all know the kind of a talent he is. Once he gets a few runs, you’ll see a different Yuvraj Singh.” said the skipper.

With the decider against the West Indies coming up, the fact remains that the pressure is on Yuvraj to deliver the goods. With a pool of talent (Ajinkya Rahane, Ambati Rayudu) warming the benches, it is high time that Yuvraj answers with the bat.
