As luck had it, Aishwarya won the Miss World title in the year 1994

After she came home with the crown, she was flooded with offers from film producers. However, she started her acting career with Mani Ratnam’s Tamil film Iruvar in the year 1997 and appeared for the first time in a Hindi film Aur Pyaar Ho Gaya in the same year as that.

In the year 1991, Aishwarya won an International Supermodel Contest organised by Ford which earned her the proposal to feature in the American edition of Vogue. In 1993, she rose to popularity for her appearance in a Pepsi commercial with actors like Amir Khan and Mahima Chaudhury.

You won’t know that Aishwarya Rai won five other sub titles alongside being crowned Miss India World. The titles are, “Miss Catwalk”, “Miss Miraculous”, “Miss Photogenic”, “Miss Perfect Ten”, and “Miss Popular”.

The milestone of Aishwarya’s acting career was her film Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam from where she never looked back. The film was a reel adaptation of Maitreyi Devi’s Bengali novel ‘Na Hanyate’ which was directed by Sanjay Leela Bhansali.

Aishwarya Rai is the Goodwill Ambassador for the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

Aishwarya won two Best Actress award at Filmfare for appearing in Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam (1999) and Devdas (2003).

In the year 1999, Aishwarya had her most controversial relationship with Salman Khan but the couple reportedly parted their ways in the year 2002. Aishwarya accused Salman of verbal, emotional and physical abuse, infidelity and indignity and drew an end to the relationship.
