<p>Three other expensive purchases were <strong>Dinesh Karthik</strong>, <strong>Angelo Mathews</strong> and <strong>Zaheer Khan</strong> – 10.5 crore, 7.5 crore and 4 crore, respectively.</p>
<p>At the end of the day, one buy surprised everyone when Kolkata Knight Riders paid 2.4 crore for KC Cariappa. This amount was twenty-four times his base price, which left everyone asking just one question – “Who is KC Cariappa?”</p>
<p>Full name <strong>Konganda Charamanna Cariappa</strong> is a 20-year-old Coorg-based leg spinner. Carri, as his local teammates prefer calling him, claim that his unique grip allows him to bowl off-spin, too.</p>
<div id="attachment_24061" style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><a href="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/cariappa-kkr.jpg" class='wp-img-bg-off' rel='mygallery'><img aria-describedby="caption-attachment-24061" class="size-full wp-image-24061" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/cariappa-kkr.jpg" alt="Konganda Charamanna Cariappa" width="600" height="400" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/cariappa-kkr.jpg 630w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/cariappa-kkr-600x400.jpg 600w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-24061" class="wp-caption-text">Konganda Charamanna Cariappa</p></div>
<p>Just like Ajantha Mendis of Sri Lanka, Cariappa is a mystery bowler.</p>
<p>At 5 feet 11 inches, he is unconventionally tall for a spin bowler. Other than his leg-spin and off-spin bowling, he has googly and a faster one in his arsenal.</p>
<p>Cariappa participated in the recently organised <strong>Karnataka Premier League</strong> where he represented the Bijapur Bulls taking 11 wickets in six matches. He was also part of the preliminary squad for Karnataka during the Ranji Trophy.</p>
<div id="attachment_24059" style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><a href="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kpl-tournament.jpg" class='wp-img-bg-off' rel='mygallery'><img aria-describedby="caption-attachment-24059" class="size-full wp-image-24059" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kpl-tournament.jpg" alt="Karnataka Premier League" width="600" height="407" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kpl-tournament.jpg 1164w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kpl-tournament-589x400.jpg 589w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kpl-tournament-884x600.jpg 884w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-24059" class="wp-caption-text">Karnataka Premier League</p></div>
<p>Former India opener Aakash Chopra tweeted an interesting fact about Cariappa that read – I’m told that last season Cariappa was with the KKR as a video analyst for a short while… If this tweet is anything to go by, the Karnataka leg-spinner has indeed come a long way.</p>
<p><strong>The bowler is also accustomed to playing several tennis ball tournaments</strong>. Besides that, he also played for the <strong>Karnataka U-19 team</strong>.</p>
<p>During last year’s CLT20, Cariappa was one of the net bowlers; he managed to impress many players, who further encouraged him to give his name for the IPL auctions.</p>
<p>He was not carrying high hopes, but once the auction finished, he said, “Honestly, I never expected so much to be bid on me. I thought I might be picked up for Rs. 10 lakhs. I don’t know how to react to this. My family is so thrilled with the news. Right now my house is crowded with so many people wishing me well.”</p>
<div id="attachment_24060" style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><a href="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kolkata-knight-riders.jpg" class='wp-img-bg-off' rel='mygallery'><img aria-describedby="caption-attachment-24060" class="size-full wp-image-24060" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kolkata-knight-riders.jpg" alt="Kolkata Knight Riders" width="600" height="338" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kolkata-knight-riders.jpg 1920w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kolkata-knight-riders-660x371.jpg 660w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/kolkata-knight-riders-1000x563.jpg 1000w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-24060" class="wp-caption-text">Kolkata Knight Riders</p></div>
<p>Such a surprise being thrown at the IPL auction is not something new. Praveen Tambe impressed many former players as well as existing ones with his spin bowling while playing for the Rajasthan Royals.</p>
<p>It will be very interesting to see what Cariappa brings to the Kolkata Knight Riders and to cricket on the whole.</p>

<p>The swashbuckling southpaw was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014 for a whopping 14 crore. <strong>For the 2015 edition, the Delhi Daredevils have bought him for a higher amount – 16 crore</strong>.</p>

<p>This is the first time Yuvraj will be playing for the Daredevils. The team has had its share of ups and downs in former IPL editions. With Singh being included to their squad, their chances of lifting the 2015 IPL trophy definitely gets augmented.</p>
<p>This prediction comes at the back of Singh’s performance in the Ranji Trophy where he scored three back-to-back centuries for Punjab. Being out of this year’s ICC World Cup definitely hurt the Indian batsman and he would be willing to prove his worth.</p>
<p><strong>Dinesh Karthik, on the other hand, has emerged as the second highest purchase with the Royal Challengers Bangalore buying him for 10.5 crore</strong>. The third highest buy is <strong>Sri Lanka’s Angelo Mathews, who has been bought for 7.5 crore by Delhi Daredevils</strong>. Royal Challengers showed great interest in buying the Sri Lankan all-rounder, too, but eventually surrendered to Daredevils.</p>
<div id="attachment_24003" style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><a href="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/dinesh-karthik.jpg" class='wp-img-bg-off' rel='mygallery'><img aria-describedby="caption-attachment-24003" class="size-full wp-image-24003" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/dinesh-karthik.jpg" alt="dinesh karthik" width="600" height="490" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/dinesh-karthik.jpg 1000w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/dinesh-karthik-490x400.jpg 490w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/dinesh-karthik-734x600.jpg 734w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-24003" class="wp-caption-text">Dinesh Karthik has been bought for 10.5 crore by Royal Challengers Bangalore</p></div>
<p>Former Delhi Daredevils captain Kevin Pietersen was also predicted to sell highly to one of the IPL teams with his base price being 2 crore. <strong>He was sold to Sunrisers Hyderabad for his base price of 2 crore</strong>. Former Australian middle-order batsman <strong>Michael Hussey comes back home to Chennai Super Kings when the giants bought him for 1.5 crore</strong>.</p>
<p><em>The IPL 2015 auction has shocking names featuring in the <strong>unsold list</strong> – Hashim Amla, Zaheer Khan, Brad Hodge, Mahela Jayawardene, Tillakaratne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakkara, to name a few.</em></p>
<div id="attachment_24006" style="width: 610px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><a href="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/ipl-unsold-in-auction.jpg" class='wp-img-bg-off' rel='mygallery'><img aria-describedby="caption-attachment-24006" class="size-full wp-image-24006" src="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/ipl-unsold-in-auction.jpg" alt="IPL unsold in auction" width="600" height="600" srcset="https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/ipl-unsold-in-auction.jpg 600w, https://www.youngisthan.in/wp-content/uploads/2015/02/ipl-unsold-in-auction-400x400.jpg 400w" sizes="(max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px" /></a><p id="caption-attachment-24006" class="wp-caption-text">IPL unsold in auction</p></div>
<p>Post-IPL 2014, rumours were rife about Chennai Super Kings and Rajasthan Royals being left out of this year’s tournament due to supposed scandals. However, they will be featuring in the tournament and will be host to several matches, too.</p>
<p>With players like Yuvraj Singh changing teams, chances of underdogs like Delhi Daredevils become high.</p>
<p><strong>This year’s is the eighth edition of the Indian Premier League and is set to begin on April 8, 2015.</strong></p>
