Tinkling laughter of Nisha, romantic gaze of Prem, vivacious smile of jiji (not bhabhi, because mai ladki waalo ki side se hoon :p), spot-on nature of jijaji, all kinds of relatives, friend-like helps, cute pet dog… and lots of music, dance and drama!

Well, what’s not to love about Hum Aapke Hain Koun? Nothing, I say!

We’ve grown up watching this movie over and over again on TV, and fans like me know exactly on which channel to expect it, specially on Sundays (pun intended). Infact, for many of us it was the first movie we watched in the theatre. Hum Aapke Hain Koun will always hold a special place in our hearts because…

1. It beautifully captured the budding romances in weddings-

All thanks to Hum Aapke Hain Koun, many a devar go deewana  on our didi’s wedding, hoping they’ll find their ‘Nisha’ in us. Well, that’s only for us to judge how close or not are they to the cute ‘Prem’, we love so much.

2. It gave us beautiful songs, perfect for so many rituals-

I strongly feel Hum Aapke Hain Koun is one big reason of jutta-chupayi rasam being highly anticipated and one of the most glamorous ones. Come on, don’t try saying you didn’t think of jutte do paise lo song when you were in a similar situation! Then, there’s wah wah Ram ji for engagement, sajan ghar mai chali for vidayi, and many more.

3. We loved when Prem said “Nisha ji”-

Aap bhi sochti hongi kaisa pagal aadmi h… pehle meri painting ka fan tha, fir singing aur dancing  ka, ab cooking ka bhi!  Boyfriends and husbands, take cues… ladies drool over men who compliment and are respectful.

4. It kickstarted fashion in weddings-

Till date, there has been no such saree blouse that became as popular as Nisha’s backless one. Come to think of it, not just Nisha’s but every lady character’s outfits were just exquisite. Not to forget the lovely accesories and hairstyles, they wore!

5. We love big families, big houses, and big weddings-

Playing antakshari with all the uncles and aunties, matching steps with each other in weddings, nupitals spreading across days… we love it all! We might not say it out loud, but the movie’s characters summed up the idea of a perfect family for us.

6. Salman Khan. And Madhuri Dixit.

Salman Khan- This man has got generations of women go crazy after him. Why? How? Its a long list but cutting it short, we eternally love him. Madhuri Dixit- Beauty, expressions, moves–the lady has got it all.

7. Tears rolled down our cheeks when jijji died-

That’s the only part we hate about the movie. How could ever-so-charming and gorgeous lady, the only one who knew about Prem and Nisha’s love story, die! God, you are so unfair!  Um… thank God it’s just a movie.

The list can go on and on, and so does our love for the movie.

Maybe the movie is the culprit behind many of us being such hopeless romantics. Maybe the movie ignited our endless love for Salman and Madhuri. Maybe the movie subconsciously pushes us to make sure we look perfect in weddings… after all, who knows, we might just meet someone who we’d like to ask– Hum Aapke Hain Koun !
