Sports Have been changing over time. There are not one but many games and sports that are invented. The primary stage of sports has turned to new forms with additions of techniques and forms to improve as the techniques of sports changed. Making for the players to enjoy and implement better ways to create interest for the viewers and players.

In early times sports were for free times and entertainment apart. When people could spend leisure practicing and playing on the grounds. There were less or no audiences but over time there has been a massive change in gaining popularity and powers together.

It could be hardly believed that people can be paid high for the sports they play. They will be paid for their travels while from one country to another.

Ancient sports was less about teamwork

The beginning of the sports was all about archery, weapons, and masters in fight or wrestling. Whenever sports started it was less about teamwork and more between two people. Bravery and master are the two appraisals that were more important in sports along with intelligence. Over time there have been changes within 18 the century.

Sports introduced to cricket, soccer, ice skating, golf, and many others that were restricted to high-class people who wanted to spend playing during their leisure time. Slowly the interest developed in common people and with the introduction of sports clubs, different competitions and friendly games provided scopes to neutrally. Later with the support of the government, the sports and players flourished with new developments. Olympics that gives opportunities to 33 sports now in which hundreds of players participate. International games are played in different events apart from the national games. No longer it is a local game that was for leisure and friendly games as sports changed.

As Sports changed it is now a profession, not leisure

Sportsmen play professionally, they are highly trained, with the followed chart of routines related to fitness, nutrition, and health. Award and honor were present even during the ancient sports but the difference arises with the different introduction of events. Each event has expertise who play professionally and earn a job and salary for their commitment to their expertise.

Earlier expertise in any kind of profession or job could play sports, it can be for leisure or a reason of interest. At no place, do they have any mentor to guide them? They did not need to maintain their fitness for playing as a profession, as it was a part of a fun and refreshment activity.

Sports in the modern world

Sports has not only given name and fame worldwide but the success is unpredictable. Top players are found to rank among the richest persons. Audiences or spectators have to purchase tickets at prices that may be a salary of a day. Sports in the modern world have changed over time that pays the highest and it is growing with profitability. Many skilled and good players at an early age can easily divert themselves to their field of interest. Cultural influence is not new, it was seen several decades ago that remains in the modern world.

Is it just me or does anyone else gets bothered with the constant yapping that we hear every day about social causes like saving the planet or certain endangered species?

Don’t you get bugged when you constantly listen to environmentalists trying to feed you stuff that you don’t want to participate in voluntarily?

In all honesty, I would like people to focus on other important tasks at hand than trying to engage in “social causes”that are beyond our control. I mean, why would someone want to interfere with the nature?

Here is a list of certain aspects that I would prefer people not worrying about…and for good – 

Worrying about Present

There is no present; just the near future and recent past

People always talk about living in the present and forgetting past or not thinking about future too much. Sounds fair, doesn’t it? Well, what if I told you that there is no future? You must be thinking I have gone bonkers. The way we decide that the moment we live in is present is through time and time waits for no one. The clock is always ticking. You think about capturing a moment in the present and it slips right past you. No wonder we can’t get things done on time. The bottom line is that there is no present; all you have are the near future and the recent past.

Worrying about Global Warming

Global warming is natural and not caused by humans

Global warming is another concern for many people around the world. They worry about water, air as well as soil. The earth is getting warmer and warmer by the day, they say. Well, that’s change and it is not caused by us. That is all nature.

Worrying about Saving the Endangered Species

Worrying about endangered species is a no-brainer. It’s evolution

Now how many times have we heard humans yelp about saving species that are declining with each passing day? If you add sensitivity to the issue, the discussion might seem fair and many people would join hands for the cause. However, if you think logically, it is just another attempt by humans to exhibit their controlling behaviour. Humans are trying to control nature, which is meddling with natural occurrences, and that can be dangerous. Statistically, since life began on earth, 90% of species that have existed have disappeared and humans are not responsible for their disappearance. Nature took its course; that’s what happened. Save the trees, save the tigers, save the whales – its evolution and we need to accept the change.

Worrying about Saving the Planet

The earth has seen many catastrophes and has prevailed

Save the planet – this, personally, is one of the silliest causes that humans are fighting for at the moment. We are trying to save the planet when we haven’t even learned to care for one another. Environmentalists are trying to interject into an area that is already fine. The planet has been around for four-and-a-half billion years, whereas humans have existed for a hundred thousand years, maybe two hundred thousand. During its time of existence, earth has seen some major catastrophes and it has prevailed. Do humans seriously think that a plastic bag can ruin the earth? The planet is not going anywhere people, we are!

Worry about Building Golf Courses

Golf courses can be used to build houses for the homeless

Have you noticed the number of golf courses that we have around the world? They occupy a lot of space and for a game that no one really enjoys or cares about. Golf is an elitist game and exhibits plain arrogance of people who can spare time off their schedule to knock tiny balls around with a crooked stick. So what do we actually worry about? How about homelessness? Can these golf courses be used to build affordable houses? Sure, why not.

On the eve of India’s 68th Independence Day, the nation has seen heroes being formed right from the world of sports to politics and business.

Even though, the ‘big names’ have dominated the headlines for over a large periods of time, it’s time the understudy got recognition as well. We are trying to highlight the sportsmen and sportswomen who have struggled throughout their careers and still continue to fight but under the cosh.

These sports personalities might NOT have the financial backing but still proudly wear the tricolour on their sleeves:

Shiva Keshavan (Luger)
The Manali-born Shiva Keshavan is India’s only representative in the much anticipated Winter Olympics. Keshavan has been plying his trade in the Luge category, making his debut in the Olympic Games at Negano, Japan as a 16-year-old. Not only this, he is also the first Indian and the youngest-ever to take part in luge in Winter Olympics. Even though having Italian descent (mother is Italian), Shiva was offered to represent Italy but chose the country of his birth.

Oinam Bembem Devi (Football)
Football in India is given very little importance especially with the dominance of cricket around but that didn’t stop Oinam Bembem Devi from adapting it. At a tender age of 15, Oinam did what others couldn’t, as she made her international debut for India’s women’s football team in 1995. She has gone to represent the national side thrice in 2003, 2010 and 2012 as the captain and hopes to be a coach after retirement. Midfielder by trade, Oinam is the first woman from Manipur to have bagged the title of ‘Best Footballer’ (2). Not only this, she also won the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) for the year 2001 and 2013.

Ankita Raina (Tennis)
Currently ranked 262 in the world, Indian tennis sensation Ankita Raina is the next superstar in the making. With the likes of Sania Mirza and Leander Paes as idols, Raina has been in the forefront of Indian tennis for a while. Not only this, Ankita has been receiving help from the current PM Narendra Modi as far as financial help is concerned.

Anirban Lahiri (Golf)
Golf in India might be recognised through the likes of Jeev Milkha Singh and Arjun Atwal, but here come the future. Anirban Lahiri is today’s India’s brightest hopes on the world stage and is already rubbing shoulders alongside Tiger Woods. Even though he is ranked 86th in the world, the third-highest ranked Asian on the list, Lahiri still hopes to take this sport ahead especially in India and dreams of winning a gold at the Olympics especially after golf was included.

The above sport persons might not appear in the advertisements and in your magazine front-covers but their pride lies in taking this country ahead in the respective field of sports and most importantly, unfurl the tricolour and say ‘Jai Hind’!
