Why Saraswati Puja Is The Perfect And Most Awaited Bong Valentine’s Day

Goddess Saraswati is the Goddess of wisdom, learning and knowledge.

In fact, this daughter of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati is so beautiful that Her pure and serene idol must be making Her feminine human counterparts secretly envious.

Ma Saraswati was born and that auspicious day became Saraswati Puja Day.

Well, on this very day, love blooms in the air, and each and every Bengali boy is busy looking for his own Saraswati. Yes, the day of Saraswati Puja is Valentine’s Day for all the Bong guys and gals in the house, and hurray!

Today is Saraswati Puja!

It’s Vasant Panchami… Winter has faded away and it’s spring time. The birds are singing, the flowers are blossoming, that cruel nip in the air has disappeared and the hopeless romantics are overjoyed. On this day, puppy loves and casual affairs may end up becoming the relationships of a lifetime.Young couples are more interested in romancing and who knows, even lovemaking at times, than in performing the Puja and eating the Prasad. No studying on this day (with books and pens on Ma Saraswati’s feet) means full-on masti. Boys can enter girls’ schools and colleges, and vice-versa. Then there’s the super fun hand-in-hand Pandal hopping and the mouth-watering Bhog savouring. Wowie!

The already romantic duos become even more romantic and ecstatic after all this.Orangish yellow or pure yellow is the colour code on this day, and some Bengali boys are spotted putting Palash flowers in their beloved’s chotis or buns, while the ultra-modern Bong guys are seen biking and driving aroundwith their GFs in striking yellow outfits.Cupid seems to be there everywhere for his Bengali friends…Both Saraswati Puja and Valentine’s Day mostly fall in the same month of February, and this year, it’s no different. Ask Bongs which day they prefer, and they will choose the Yellow Day over the Red Day.

In fact, they will narrate paragraphs on why Hug Day, Rose Day, Kiss Day, Chocolate Day and most importantly, Valentine’s Day are absolutely no match for Saraswati Puja as they’re much more commercialized in these times.

Here are a few things you can do and spend the day happily today on Saraswati Puja –

  • Awaken your literary and creative side and write some lovely quality poetry on the themes of Love and Nature…. There’s no harm in trying to be a Tagore or a Wordsworth. You can also try writing and singing a devotional song for Goddess Saraswati and a romantic number for that special someone.
  • Sway with your beloved in your arms but please don’t forget to perform a dance of worship for Ma Saraswati. It will make Her happy and She’ll bless you wholeheartedly.
  • When you go dating, ensure you watch a romantic (RomComs help)or at least a violence and negativity free film (No Horror Movies or Crime and Action Thrillers, please), and take a nice walk and then sit somewhere, indulging in a lovey-dovey tete-a-tete.
  • Read to know more about Goddess Saraswati and the history of Saraswati Puja. You can also ask your mother or your grandmother to tell you tales associated with Ma Saraswati. Also, don’t forget reading your all-time favourite love poems and romantic novels; it’s Bengali Valentine’s Day, remember?
  • Play the Saraswati Vandana or any other song related to Goddess Saraswati and listen to romantic and feel-good tracks too.
  • You can also buy some good books and spend the evening in a bookstore or a library with your lover.
  • After eating Prasad in the morning post Pushpanjali and Bhog in the afternoon, catch up on some slumber, and then gorge on some Phuchkas (if you’re in Kolkata) in the evening. And yes, don’t even think of eating non-veg and consuming alcohol!

Make Saraswati Puja a day of both worship and romance, and you will easily term this as one of the best and most awaited days of the year.

While celebrating this day as Bengali / Bong Valentine’s Day, amidst your revelry and enjoyment, please don’t forget our beloved Goddess – MA SARASWATI…
