Dear Mr Kejriwal, Now Is The Time To Take Action Against Bharti

The national capital went into a sense of freezing chaos for two days when its own chief minister held an illegal dharna demanding action against two police officers who were doing nothing but their duty. Chief minister Arvind Kejriwal was backing the action of his law minister Somnath Bharti, a person so dear to him that he rubbished the court order against the man earlier.

Kejriwal and his party members waved a letter in the face of the media and public justifying Bharti’s action which turned out to be a lie. He even threatened to disrupt the Republic Day celebrations on Rajpath for Bharti had become more important than Bharat.

As Kejriwal would agree, wrong doings lead to punishment.

His punishment was that his demands were not met. His party lost credibility on the account of racism, gender discrimination and lying. His party members showed their angry faces on televisions saying unacceptable things for other people which landed them in another hot soup. And now, there is a solid case against Bharti for intimidating and harassing a Ugandan woman and leading a mob for various illegal activities.

What Kejriwal and his party did without thinking twice and holding ‘might is right’ high cannot be undone. But what Kejriwal does from here is important.

Now will be the time when Kejriwal asks his minister Bharti to resign till the cases against him are solved. Bharti has been identified by the Ugandan woman who recorded her statement in camera under Section 164 CrPC before a magistrate. She has identified Bharti and has named him in her statement.

The National Commission of Women has also slammed Bharti’s action and AAP’s duality on women safety. NCW chairperson Mamata Sharma launched a scathing attack on AAP and his minister saying the minister should have resigned on his own even if not asked to do so. “Is it the government’s contention that only ‘ma, behen and beti’ are entitled to safety and dignity and that prostitutes can be left to the mercy of moralistic mobs?” she questioned.

In addition to this, Kejriwal should also ask his men to practice restrain before saying anything. This list includes Kejriwal himself. His whole clout is under attack for non-sense and racist remarks.

Kejriwal joined the system because he believed it to be difficult to bring change in it sitting on the fence. When he is a part of the system, Kejriwal should work within its boundaries which are defined by the Constitution of India and serve people well.

Kejriwal should not be remembered for the illegal dharnas, gimmicks on streets, racism, vigilantism and anarchy, but for bringing social, economic and systemic change. And for that, he will have to work hard.
