6 Chilling Images And Facts On Child Labor Will Break Your Heart

If you are thinking that exploitation of children for financial gain is a thing of past then you are wrong.

The grim reality is that over 215 million children across the globe are still bound in the shackles of child labor.

Even though there is a law (Child Labour Prohibition and Regulation Act) in place to curb the problem, still large numbers of children are forced to work.  Several kids work at road side stalls, some are told to carry heavy bricks, some are operating hazardous machines in factories etc.

Let us have a look at some alarming facts and figures which reveal facts of the vexing issue.

  1. It pains to see this horrendous statistic.

According to statistics, over 12 million child workers are there in India and NGOs suggest that actual figure is around 60 million.

  1. Bonded labour: This very problem is looming large over in almost every part of our nation.

Bonded child labour, which is one of the forms of slavery, is a hidden problem in our country. People give employment to a person against a loan or any social obligation. This is very much in the informal sector.

  1. Children without Childhood.

Many children in our nation still working pathetic and inhuman situations. They are made to work more than 9 hours a day and paid less to no wages. As per the reports of HAQ: Centre of Child rights, child labor is high among SC, ST, Muslims and OBC children.

  1. Hard hitting facts which may boil your blood.

One in every 11 children in our nation is employed. More boys (38.7 million) than girls (8.8 million) are involved in dangerous work. Official estimates for child labour working as domestic labour and in restaurants is more than 2,500,000 while NGOs estimate the figure to be around 20 million.

  1. Unfortunately, the menace is not decreasing at the rate that we should have.

Child labor has been decreasing at an appalling rate of 2.2% per year from 2001 to 2011, as per an analysis by NGO CRY.

  1. Apart from these disturbing statistics let us take a look at the some good changes brought by some messiahs too.

Kailash Satyarthi , Nobel peace Prize Winner, led the movement against Child Labors, freed more than 80,000 child laborers in the past. We need more such Kailashs to completely wipe out child labor from every nook of the world. He holds peaceful movements and demonstrations. These stats are a good sign of better tomorrow and like him many other NGOs and activist are rays of hope who are striving hard to bring in change.

These facts are sad eye opener for everyone. But if we all do our bit to rescue the innocent souls who are trapped under child labor then we can to eradicate this menace from the society.

If you find any child working then do not hesitate to file complaint against them if you are not willing to do complaint then you contact NGOs ( Child helpline number is 1098) who are solely for the cause.
