You Are Killing Your Sleep If You Are Eating These 8 Foods Before Going To Bed!

Food is what fuels our body to work and to rest as well. While some foods might act as relaxants, some might deprive you of your sleep if consumed before hitting the sack.

If you find it hard to fall asleep or you wake up feeling less rested, here are 8 worst foods to eat before bedtime that might have been keeping you awake.

  1. Coffee

Nothing that we have not heard before, the caffeine in coffee is one of the most commonly known sleep deterrent. The caffeine in coffee is slowly metabolized by our body which means even 10-15 hours after consumption, the caffeine still remains in our body, which pushes our brain to an overdrive mode and keeps it active for long, not letting you sleep.

  1. Dark Chocolate

The sinful chocolates commit this silent sin of not letting you sleep, if consumed at night. Not only does it add sugar to your blood, the caffeine also affects the body and brain functioning, not letting your brain to relax.

  1. Alcohol

While many of us believe that alcohol helps to get a sound sleep, it is actually a sleep killer. While alcohol may help you fall asleep soon, but researches have shown that alcohol increases sleep disruptions in the second half of the sleep, causing you to wake up multiple times making you wake up feeling restless. Also, alcohol being a muscle relaxant is also associated with causing the consumer to snore at night.

  1. Chili

Not just indigestion, but having spicy food can also cause you to not be able to sleep. While chilies are a great food for nutrition, they act on increasing the metabolic rate of your body, leaving it craving for sleep, if consumed at night. Also, Capsaicin in green chilies is known to affect sleep by affecting the body temperature.

  1. Celery

Unless you want to run rounds to the washroom at night, avoid having this magical food at night. While in the day time, celery is a super food for those looking for a healthy and nutritious diet, having it at night might disrupt your sleep. Celery is a natural diuretic which makes you want to take a leak often and hence, consuming before bedtime would not be a very good idea.

  1. Tomatoes

Tomatoes are rich in tyramine, which triggers the brain to release a stimulant that increases brain activity and hence delays sleep. Thus, having tyramine rich foods like tomatoes, egg-plant, soy sauce and red wine at night would not be a very good choice.

  1. Fruit Juices

Fruit juices, especially citrus ones are highly acidic for the body and should be avoided at night. Also, juices give the body a rush of simple sugars without any fiber which might cause the body to produce unchecked insulin at night, not letting the body to rest.

  1. Large Volumes of Meat

While we all know that our body needs protein at night to repair the damage that we do to our body throughout the day but what we do not know is that proteins take a lot of energy to be digested. So if you are consuming a large volume of meat at night, it is giving your body too much protein to digest. This means, your body will have to work harder and longer to digest it, keeping you up till late, if consumed before bed time.

Let your dreams be sweet by taking note of these 8 foods to avoid and you can sleep away to glory for a beautiful day ahead!
