Sonia expresses anguish over Mumbai gang-rape

Congress President Sonia Gandhi on Saturday expressed concern and anguish over the gruesome gang-rape of the 22-year-old photojournalist in Mumbai two days ago.

“It is a heinous crime…It should not have happened,” Gandhi said, while interacting with reporters after the inauguration of the National Media Centre here.

A 22-year-old photojournalist working for an English magazine was raped by five men in Mumbai’s Shakti Mills compound Thursday. She was accompanied by a male colleague, who was brutally thrashed by the assailants.

The photojournalist suffered grievous internal injuries.
